Foundation Primers

Cavewoman, at BlogdorfGoodman, has been spending much time reviewing primers of late, and has quite a few on the list now. Here are a few that you might be interested in looking at:
- Elizabeth Arden’s Good Morning Serum (not bad)
- Nars Primer (not so great)
- Clinique Primer (eek!)
- Revlon Vital Radiance (pretty good)
- Shiseido Brightening Veil (hated it!)
- LaPrarie Rose Illusion (primer perfection)
- Smashbox Photo Finish (the primer against which all others are compared – the uber primer!)
I have to say here that I am not nearly as enthused about Smashbox as she is. My uber primer was one from days gone by, from a French cosmetics company, Payot. It was indeed primer perfection for me, and I haven’t had any in years now, and cannot find it anymore (probably just a product re-working and I don’t know what it is called!). The Smashbox primer is chock full of silicone, and that just plain old feels weird on my face. I feel like it is clogging my pores like nobodys business. However, after reading all of these incredibly good reviews of primers, I am going to get out my Smashbox primer again, and give it a real test to see what I think. I haven’t heard one bad review of it yet, so I think I am just holding a grudge against that scary silicone. I also have another primer in my arsenal that I need to review, and will get after that too, maybe next week.

Hello, ebeauty! Thank you for the comments on the Blogdorf Goodman Project Primer!
I’m stunned and thrilled to find another Payot lover! I still order my cleanser twice a year from an online source. The Payot products are superb, but elusive. Drop me a line for some good sources.
I do hold the Smashbox as the standard for my comparisons, but I don’t have any problems with breakouts. Maybe it’s the Payot antibacterial cleanser! The only time I ever broke out was with Clinique.
Hiya cavewoman! Welcome to my lair.
Thanks for those reviews, they are, each and every one, awesome and helpful. Do you happen to know what Payot’s primer is called now – it was white, and had a skin brightening effect as well…? I have looked through every one of those French names and cannot figure it out or for the life of me remember what they used to call it.
Anyway, hope to see you back around, you bring some great beauty to Blogdorf!!
My favorite foundation primer is from Tarte (I love so many of Tarte’s products- not only do they have awsome super cute packaging, but they have real quality!). The primer leaves my foundation feeling fresh, never cakey or dry and helps it stay put – even on a super hot day! I found out about it on http://www.palacinka.com
Thanks for the recommendation! I will be sure and add it to my list to try – I have heard a lot of good things about Tarte, but haven’t had an opportunity to try it – yet.
Thanks so much for reading and for taking the time to leave a comment. Hope to see you back soon!
I would like to mention my favorite make-up primer by Victoria’s Secret. Leaves foundation looking fresh ALL day long. I love the feel when it is applied. Never cakey…evens out skin tone and feels very soft. You can purchase in Victoria’s Secret stores or online at http://www.VictoriasSecret.com.
Hi Kim, thanks for throwing in your .02 on this. I love to hear your opinions on your favorites, I will be sure and check out VC’s brand!
