Hair Extensions – Part 2 – Glue In Wefts

Another popular method of putting in hair extensions is the glue in (or bonding) method. Either hot or cold glue is used to apply wefts or very small group of strands to your hair.
This was the first method I ever tried, and used the wefts rather than the strand groups. The glue was supposed to last for around 4-6 weeks, with washing (albeit careful washing), but naturally, that never really worked, and I was always having sections reglued. That said, this method works pretty well – just expect to need a touch up every couple of weeks or so, and it depends a lot on the weight of your hair – shorter or more layered styles won’t pull so much on the glue and will stay in better.
Another type of glue in hair comes with the glue already attached to the end of small groups of hair, and a small iron melts the glue into your hair. These are probably the most permanent of the glue in type of extensions, but still will loosen up over time. I would love to hear from some of you who have used this method – this is one I would really like to try.
All in all, glue in extensions are really great product – or a do it yourself solution – all of the materials are readily available at your local beauty supply (like Sally’s Beauty), or on eBay. This method is 20 times faster than the sew in method, but again, won’t last nearly as long, and you definitely need a friend to help you. If you go to the salon to have this done, be sure and ask what their policy is about touch ups, because I guarantee you that you will need them.
As always, with ALL hair extensions, color the wefts first, and cut them once they are in your hair.

I have used hair extensions I just love them it makes me look and fell great,the one thing that bothers me is it puts me into the porr house,I have gotten the small strands thay used something hot to keep them in i liked them verry much thay lasted the longest around 5 months thay put into my hair,I think thay put in 500 strands into my hair I love then could you tell me a cheeper way to put them in thank you so much p.s Im not a good speller sorry again thanks Cathy

How do you get the glue out of your hair without your hair coming with it?

If you want the extensions out of your hair you can go to Sally’s Beauty Supply and they have remover for it.
Also, if you just wash your hair regularly, the glue will come out on its own in a few washes.
I am thinking of having hair extensions for my wedding. I don’t want anything permanent, so this is ideal. I have a girlfriend who said she could do it for me. How early should I start to try this out?
i wouldnt use the oil brought from sallys, sure it breaks down but you have to let it sit for awhile, its much cheaper to use baby oil. then just comb through. once done, wash your hair with dawn dish soap, it takes the oil right out cuz its a grease fighter. then wash normally :]
Hi everyone, I have lost most of my hair from stress and the birth control pills I am on. My hair is long but as thin to the point you can see though it. I wish to know if this glue in system really works and if you will be able to see it in front where I have lost alot of hair. I now always wear covering on my head before I go anywhere because of the shame of not having hair anymore. Can someone please help me in what to buy so I can look nice again.

Hey Waya, if your looking for a safe system i wouldnt go with the glue. I had them not to long ago and they destroyed my hair entirely. I have been doing hair (my own & others) for years now. I have found the glue most difficult & frusterating. It may be a quick process, but it’s still a messy one. The glue easily, nomatter who does it can and usually will drip into other parts of your hair. That will cause you either having to spend bucks on glue remover, combing it out which could take weeks to months depending on the amount, or actually cutting chunks of your hair out. It’s not healthy for your hair, no matter what people tell you.

Now, onto clip ins. They are no harm to your hair, besides the occasional knot. However, they do get upsetting and frusterating with the fact that you have to keep up with them and find ways to keep them staying IN your hair, and making sure all sides are perfectly connected to the hair on your head. It not, this can lead to major embarrassment.) This is the wrong product for those with thin and brittle or sensitive hair. Lastly, your style choices are limited.
If you choose fusion or wefting, do not take the chances of getting them done by either yourself or a non-licensed professional. This can result in major hair damage.

Hi I am also new to this extension deal I am wondering if I weave them in how long approximately can I keep them in the thing is my hair overnight sweats and I really have to wash my hair every other day. I buy pre tipped hair myself and have my stylist install my pretipped glue tip hair. I have been purchasing glue tip hair from sultryhair.com for over 4 years. The hair is natural looking and feeling beause it is 100% human Indian hair. It sips and sheds very little. In fact, after about a couple installs, my stylist has also fallen in love with their hair and has since purchases exclusively from Sultry hair for her clients. I am a model and many of my model friends has thin hair and needs it long and thick for jobs. I have referred them all to that site and everyone agrees with me that they are the best.

Removing hair extension glue is a very serious issue, that so many women take lightly. Your hair can become more damaged or thin if your hair extensions are improperly removed.
There is a product called Take Down Remover Cream (www.takedownproducts.com) that was specifically designed to get the hair glue out and SAVE your hair.
Also if you leave your extensions in tooo long and your hair gets a bit matted or tangled in the extensions-the Take Down Remover will detangle your hair safely as well.

I have had bonds in for a couple months now, I have not had to get them touched up or anything, and none have fallen out. They still look and feel as good as the day I got them which is surprising considering I shower and straighten my hair every single night. My extensions were only $315 and they look completely natural, better then any of my friends with beads or trax. My real hair is short, only to my shoulders and my extensions go about the top of my rib cage. I absolutely love them!
