Have you tried Threading?

Threading is an ancient method of hair removal that uses the precise twisting of a cotton thread to remove hair. Because threading grabs the individual hair only, it is less harsh on the skin. It appeals to clients with sensitive skin, acne problems or who have an adverse reaction to waxing. While there is a slight pressure akin to getting a hair plucked, it does not leave the skin red or raw.

I haven’t. The idea of twisting a thread around a strand then pulling it off my skin intimidates me. Good thing I don’t have problems when it comes to excessive facial hair. If I need to re-shape my eyebrows, I pluck them myself or I’d go to a salon to have it done. I don’t even like waxing!

I reckon this method takes a long time to finish (unless it’s done by an expert) and it can be painful esp if you’re not used to getting your hair plucked. But from experience, you can get use to it.

Arizona-based Jada Beauty, owned by Alexis Smith, Alex Nguyen and Oanh Phan (founded the business and practiced the Eastern technique for over 20 years), offers this service, threading services range from $8 for lip or chin to $40 for the whole face.

Jada Beauty is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 480-838-9304, or JadaBeauty.com.

If I do get around to giving this technique a try, I’ll let you guys know. But one thing is certain, I definitely won’t do this at home as sort of an experiment. I wouldn’t want to end up in the ER. Heh.

No but my mom did. And guess what? Not only is she having her eyebrows done, she’s availing facial threading as well (David’s Salon in ATC)! She says it doesn’t hurt (maybe because she has a high tolerance for pain) and the result really looks nice. You can actually see the difference.

Re: waxing, I’ve done waxing but not in my face. I can’t imagine putting sticky stuff in my face. ewwww

That’s so cool! I didn’t realise Tita is that kikay, too! LOL. I’ll give it a try one of these days cuz if she can do it, I can, too! Heehee. ;) Btw, no waxing on the face for me either! :-P

  3. Sophie says:

Threading is for people who love pain Haha! :) I’m high tolerance so I don’t mind – but I find myself in tears whenever I have my brows threaded :)

But the result is fabulous, and easy to maintain, so I’d choose threading anytime over waxing or plain plucking :)

  4. Sasha Manuel says:

You people are masochists! LOL. But if you take me threading, I’ll entrust my brows to you. ;)

  5. mEl says:

Tell me about it! I think the more you get older the more kikay you get.

re: waxing. try the one i told you about. *LOL* And if you do, will you let us know about it? :D

What?!? Photo blog it?! VLog? NO effing WAY! I can’t even bring myself to SAY it! Gah.

I reckon we get more kikay as we grow older cuz we’re more conscious about looking “young” and “attractive” more. We can liken it to owning old cars, they’re higher maintenance, right? LOL. ;)

Whatever will they think of next…it looks so scary

I always get my eyebrows threaded at David’s Salon in Alabang Town Center. Im not gonna lie and say it’s not painful, but I think the 5 minutes of pain is well worth it, hehe! :)

  9. Sasha Manuel says:

Maureen: Yea, it does look a bit intimidating.

Lia: It only takes 5 minutes? But you agree that it is painful. Argh. Will I ever bring myself to try it out? I’m such chicken, aren’t I? LOL. :-P

i had my first threading experience last weekend and thought it was fabulous (as far as unwanted hair removal goes). i have dry, sensitive skin with rosacea and no other method is tolerated by my skin. i found a woman who did my brows and entire face in about 15 minutes and charge $25. i’ll definitely go back and ignore every other method i’ve tried (at least until i can afford lasers).

hi sasha! i’m a regular reader of glo gamat’s blog (she’s my kababayan, she lives in the next town from sorsogon city, where i live). that’s where I chanced upon the link to your site.

i haven’t tried threading coz i can’t stand even just plucking my brows. i shave my hair brows. my sister & our friends have their monthly date with their friend who does threading in her house. she worked in saudi arabia before where she threaded saudi women’s brows.

they’ve been trying to convince me since they started having their brows threaded a couple of years now. there were times i was kind of encouraged to go but at the last minute i always chicken out.=D

last october, a friend of ours who works in manila came home during the local barangay elections. she was persuaded to try it by one of our friends. while the session was going on, she grabbed the arms of our friend who brought her there. she told me she held on for dear life! =)

    i’ll stick with shaving. =D

It’s an age old method from the east.
I was introduced to it last month and just can’t say enough good things about it! Less pain than waxing and she did a wonderful job of shaping them. It saves time as I dont have to pluck my eyebrows anymore. I took my son to get his eyebrow that he inherited from me as he was shaving. Shaving looks so terrible! He was in a bit of pain as his are so think but he’s going to maintain it and it gets easier with less hair.
