Whenever I think of Guava + Skincare, I’m always reminded of my brother. He’s a living testament of Guava’s effective medicinal attributes. I guess growing up around people who have knowledge of the traditional, organic way to go about dealing with skin problems, we weren’t able to escape becoming guinea pigs of sorts.
Lucky for one reader who wrote to me asking about such DIY skincare using Guava.

Hi Sasha,
I’m in California and a licensed esthetician and I was reading your blog about using guava on the skin… I have three mature guava trees right outside my door and want to put them to use! How do you use the guava … the fruit itself? or do you make a decoction with the leaves?
inquiring minds want to know!
thanks, – k.
They actually made use of the leaves. It’s believed to have antimicrobial properties or something that kills or prevents the growth of bacteria, fungi or microbes. Just boil a few leaves in water. Use the boiled water (luke warm, of course!) to clean/rub (using a hand towel) the problematic area of the skin. Do this as often as you can. Daily if you must. But this will depend on the gravity of the skin problem.
The affected area, which I had witnessed treatment, was on the skin on the leg calf region. I wouldn’t recommend it used anywhere else. I also suggest that you consult a licensed dermatologist esp for sensitive skin problems.

Being from Hawaii, Guava is a popular skin care treatment here. Younger Guava fruits are mashed up and applied to the face as an astrigent to help tone and tighten up your pores. Guava fruit also contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that are great for the health of your skin, such as A, B, C and potassium.
my grandma told me; guava is very useful for pimples problem. mashed up and apply to face at night..
