I remember the first time I asked my mother if I could get Teen Magazine. We were at the bookstore, and I think all the boy crazy headlines on the cover freaked her out, so she agreed to buy me Allure instead. Allure was about “beauty,” not kissing boys, so I learned about adult things like waxing and killer designer heels. This is the reason why I insisted on having an Evian atomizer in my sixth grade gym bag. I still read Allure. I read Sassy sometimes too, but I always remember feeling like maybe I wasn’t cool enough to read it. Like Nylon now–I love all this stuff in this mag, but am I cool enough to be seen reading this? But I still remember my favorite teen magazine photo spread. It was in Seventeen. The theme was mod. Everything was black and white. The models had dark hair, blunt bangs, and could wear the hell out of a mini skirt. I flipped through that issue again and again.
I loved reading Seventeen and Glamour growing up. They taught me good styling tips!
Oh my gosh I remember Sassy mag, I loved getting issue after issue
I was BIG TIME into Seventeen. I used to look at their covers with their beautiful models (one time it was a reader who won the cover contest, she was 13 and just gorgeous….man I wanted to be her SO bad) and pour over their articles on clothes and guys.
For me at the time it was Seventeen. Now my daughter is a teenager and her favorite is Seventeen as well.
My favourite was definitely Seventeen, although I enjoyed Tiger Beat as well.
I was a Seventeen fan through and through. And I’m now 22! I just love its features and fashion spreads!
I had a subscription to Seventeen when Atoosa Rubenstein was editor-in-chief. I noticed her letter from the editor when they moved it to the middle of the magazine, and it totally changed how I viewed magazines. I had never really thought about the people who put it together, or how their world view shapes the publication. Now it’s my favorite thing to read each month in the mags I subscribe to.
I was definitely one of those girls who snuck in an issue of Seventeen every time she went to a bookstore.
For me it was Teen Beat! Couldn’t wait to read about Davy Jones and Donny Osmond! My walls were covered in pictures that I cut out of the magazine lol
That was a long long time ago, but I do remeber reading “Seventeen”!
Mad! magazine and Seventeen…
seventeen/cosmo girl/ teen people !!
Seventeen! I just recently paged through one of my student’s copies and was amazed that it seemed so … silly…Wasn’t it “smarter” way back?
I used to read all the teen mags i could get my hands on, but my favorite part was putting the pics on my walls.
I don’t know how I got my hands on Cosmopolitan, but I did. I found the magazine to be so informative and mature for my age, but I learned new things. Now I enjoy Allure and other Health Magazines.
I absolutely LOVE SEVENTEEN!!! It’s the best ever!!!
I remember getting a bunch of cosmos and ripping out the exercises. I also loved all the teen vogues because their fashion was classy and accessible.
Oh man, my favorite teen magazine growing up? I LOVED Cosmo Girl! before they changed into a more celebrity gossip magazine. I don’t even know if they still exist since I don’t really read magazines anymore. However, I subscribed when I was younger and was always super excited when I received a copy in the mail. I would wait until I found the perfect private spot in the house, got all cozied up, and then read it word for word, front to back, without anyone bothering me haha.
I asked my mom to buy me a 1-year subscription to Seventeen magazine and from there, my obsession with makeup began!
I really loved Seventeen, I would always make my dad buy it for me when we went to the store!
i used to read seventeen magazine… especially the prom issue… when i was about 10. loved that stuff!
I always loved flipping through the Vogue mags. Everything pic was like a fantasy.
Ooh I used to subscribe to Seventeen. I would spend hours trying to get my hair and makeup just like the models lol.
Glamour Magazine is also doing a giveaway with Herbal Essence. Go to http://www.glamour.tv/contest
It would be Seventeen Magazine! I’d try to get my hands on it any way possible! Let it be in the waiting room of a doctors office, from a friend, grocery store.. then I eventually gave in and subscribed for a couple of years!
When I was 12 and the issue of some teen-girl mag or another came out with Hayden Christiansen on the cover, I could not put it down! I don’t know if I even read any of the articles… I just stared at the cover. In fact, I think I still have it somewhere.
I can remember reading teen mags cover to cover but they were celebrity based. We had to keep up with the boy bands and movie stars. Didn’t get into Seventeen until I was in college
I was absolutely addicted to Seventeen magazine! My family could not afford to buy it for me at the time, so I always read it in my school library. One day, another girl and I almost got into a fight over who got to read the new issue first! We pulled and tugged the magazine apart and were both sent to the principal’s office! Detention, extra hoemework, an essay on being more ladylike, and TONS of snickers from our classmates! Total embarrassment!
I remember spending hours poring over teen vogue just dreaming about the amazing clothes in every picture. It was sort of impractical for a teenager but it was always nice to dream =]
My favorite magazine was YM magazine. I loved it so much! And would always read it at the cashier stand when I was grocery shopping. I was subscribed to it as a birthday present that my friend gave me for my 11th birthday. It was amazing. I remember literally waiting for the my mom to bring the mail in during the beginning of each month and then taking it to school to share it with my friends. It is now deceased, and was replaced by Teen Vogue. Although Teen Vogue is okay, YM will always be number one.
My favorite memory was reading the affordable fashion section of Seventeen.
My favorite teen magazine was 16. I didn’t subscribe to it, but I purchased every copy! One of my fondest memories was cutting out pictures of the Bay City Rollers and other pop stars and taping them on my bedroom walls.
OK…you can all stop laughing now!
years ago (I am telling my age) Teen magazine had a full size poster of Peter Frampton and I thought that was the greatest thing in the world. It stayed on my bedroom wall for years.
I love Teen Vogue’s shoots, they’re fantastic.
But I’m also I really big fan of nylon.
I remember reading Seventeen as a teenager. It was my first magazine subscription of my very own, and it made me feel very “with it”, and gave me confidence.
I used to read HeyGirl and CosmoGirl. There were very enjoyable things inside.
I loved looking at the pictures in Seventeen! I usually looked while my Mom shopped for groceries.
I hardly ever looked through teen magazines, but growing up I used to love looking through the latest fashion trends & the ads in Vogue. Then one day while I was at the library I stumbled across Teen Vogue, so I started looking through some new & old issues of that magazine & I have to say it was probably my favourite teen magazine!
YEs I loved Bop and BB magazine and everytime i went to the grocery store with my mom I would stand in the magazine aisle and read it! AND THEN BEG HER TO buy it for me!! memories!
The first ever magazine that I fondly recall was YM magazine when I was about 12. I used to love that magazine! I found the “embarrassing moment section” quite endearing because I could really relate to that. I found the agony aunt column extremely helpful (with tips like rolling on your back to ease period pains). Basically back then YM to me was like a therapist, a stylist, and most importantly an experienced friend. I’d spend the entire weekend reading and re-reading the entire magazine from cover to cover. After that, I found Seventeen among other magazines also geared at young girls like me. I was hooked! I’ll always remember YM as the magazine that started it all though.
My favorite magazine when I was a teen was YM. I am not sure if it is still around, but I used to love to flip through it while my mom was shopping for groceries. Sometimes I could bribe her into buying me a copy. I loved to rea the Sex & Love articles and Makeup Articles. My sister and I use to fight to take the quizzes in the magazine about relationships. I rember I also cut out an up-do in the magazine to use for my Prom. So silly now that I look back on it, but I enjoyed that magazine so much.
Seventeen Magazine was always my favorite, whenever one would come my sister and I would sit on the bed and just read everything. I loved the articles, she enjoyed the reviews/posters. Course she was also into the quizes.
YM (young & modern)was my fave! I had a subscription for a few years. I lived for their hilarious stories and awesome tips. It was my pre-cosmo mag
I loved reading Seventeen and Glamour growing up. They taught me good styling tips!
Seventeen Magazine… and I even used to cover them with plastic cover to protect them!
Seventeen was and always will be my favorite magazine, along with teen vogue, I would much rather learn about beauty and ways to feel younger than reading tabloids that are full of lies,
I always read seventeen and tiger beat when I was younger. I would get so excited when they arrived in the mail!
Reading Vogue every month started when I was a teen (oh, I felt so grown-up!) and continues today – love it as much as ever!
SEVENTEEN WAS THE WINNER FOR ME! I REMEMBER TRYING TO SET MY HAIR IN ROLLERS TO MAKE MY HAIR JUST AS CHIC! IT NEVER HAPPENED BUT I CAN REMEMBER TO THIS DAY THE PAIN OF SLEEPING ON THOSE HARD ROLLERS!
