Summertime might as well be renamed “Smudging Time” as far as I’m concerned. It’s a common sight of summer – the heat and humidity can wipe out an entire face full of makeup lickety-split. But if there is one makeup essential I refuse to leave my domain without, it’s mascara. Seriously, my lashes (which are loooong, but sparse) disappear without it. So it is of utmost importance to keep that ’scara on my fringe, agreed?
Now while most of us know to start at the base of the lash and gently work our way from root to tip, what happens when you get to the tip and end up smudging onto your lid? The lid that happens to hold your painstakingly applied concealer and shadow, both base and accent colors. The lid that took you ages to perfect and seconds to destroy? Yeah, that one.
Well, here’s a tip I learned from Woman’s World magazine that I will now use ’til the end of time. Give it a try – it’s as close to miraculous as falsies (lashes, that is. Not boobs.)
Before wanding up, grab a simple Post-It note and apply it to your lid. Swipe on your mascara, allowing any erroneous inkings to end up on the paper and not your flesh, let the mascara dry, and voila! Just don’t forget to remove the paper, or you’ll have bigger problems than ink on your eyelid.
Great tip, eh?

Interesting idea, do you put the sticky part on your brow? I don’t usually mess up my mascara, but when I do, I swear by the Revlon Makeup Eraser Pen … that little sucker takes care of the mistakes in seconds and is only $8.
Great tip! After years of applying mascara, I’m still smudging!
and what’s wrong with falsies (boobies not lashes) ; )
Hey Critty – Putting the sticky part either way is fine. I usually just end up holding it there. Whatever works.
And I have NOT heard of this Revlon eraser pen. Sounds divine! Does it not destroy the eyeshadow underneath your mascara smudges though???
Must. Check. This. Out.
Thanks for the comment.
Crystal – me too!! But we shall smudge no more! We are liberated!!
Thanks for stopping by.
Selena, you got me there, girl. There is NOTHING wrong with falsies of any kind… on a girl, that is.
Ha!
Excellent tips on mascara application. Thanks Christina for this nice post.
I tend to just hold a business card or a hard cardboard card of some kind behind my lashes as I put mascara on. If you snug the index card behind your eyelashes, and then brush on mascara, taking care to keep it close to the index card, it also takes care of clumps and gives you gorgeous long lashes…without the hassle!
Tricks from magazines do sometimes work!
