Soap sure has come a long way!

December 24, 2008 by Aly Walansky

Alas, we all know the dangers of UV now, too bad we didn’t know when we were sunbathing in baby oil with a double album covered in tin foil!

Nothing we can do about that now, but we can prevent further damage by using sunscreen every day and by applying nutrients.

The only problem for us is that after we shower and dry and preen, we really are in no state of mind to apply some industrial grade products.

This is why we love Bethesda Sunscreen Soap. You apply it when you wash in the shower…and  you have just fed your skin with nutrients and given it an SFP 10 shield.

Not bad for just a simple shower.

Also not bad: I have two bars of Bethesda to give away! To win, tell me about the worst sun damage you’ve ever received! Deadline is Jan 15.

    Great Product! Thanks!

  2. Tammy says:

Living in the northern plains can make you complacent with your skin! When we travel and we go south, we forget a lot of the time to use sunscreen or reapply it. that has ended up in a lot of winter vacations with sunburns as souvenirs!

  3. Christina says:

You’re right, years ago suntans were encouraged, and I had a very bad sunburn one summer after an eight-hour day hosting an outdoor rummage sale!

  4. Brittany says:

My worst sunburn ever occurred when I was a child. My church youth group went to the lake. I was thought I was pretty grown-up at the time, since it was the summer before 6th grade, and decided that since none of the other kids were wearing sunscreen, I wouldn’t, either! Sadly enough, none of the other kids were fair-skinned redheads. I ended up with a terrible sunburn on my face. It ended with me starting the 6th grade with a HUGE scab right beside my mouth. I was humiliated, but learned my lesson about the importance of sun screen. And I still have the scar to remind me in case I forget!

As a kid growing up in the 60’s we were out the door to play at 8am until dark and I ended up having to have skin cancer removed from my shoulder last year.

  6. Kayce says:

This past summer, I used a kids’ sunscreen that I was allergic to, so not only did I get burned, the allergic reaction really made me red. I ended up taking prednisone to get rid of the burn-rash.

  7. Marilyn Wons says:

My worse sun damage was when I went to play golf on a day vacation in Florida. My upper back was bare, I had short hair, and had no sunscreen on that part of my body. My black turned beet red and had tiny blisters for over a week. A decade later, I still have brown spots from that burn.

  8. Sharon Seneker says:

I was known as the girl with the sunburn my 1st year of college. We laid out on the dorm roof to get a suntan and I really got burned. Oh, if I had that time of life to do over; I would have never done that! Thanks!

  9. kathy pease says:

once when i went to the ocean i fell asleep on the beach and got the worst sunburn of my life the blisters must have rose a half inch and the pain..GEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  10. Teresa G says:

I fell asleep on the beach. I had a second degree sunburn on my face and chest. Bright Red and Blisters! That was a lesson I never forgot and now I always use sunscreen.

  11. Sandy says:

I’m a 61 year old blonde. Just about everything I did in my youth damaged my skin. I guess the worst was ‘nude’ swimming. I damaged skin that should never be damaged.

  12. jolene says:

on vacation in south carolina once i got burned so badly that it damaged my tattoo when it peeled. i was lobster red and it hurt so badly i couldnt sleep. i used sunscreen but fell asleep in the sun. it was awful.

  13. Aletha Hendrickson says:

When I was in my teens, I stayed out all day when it was cloudy, thinking it was o.k.–received one of the worst burn of my life. Thanks for the giveaway.

  14. joanna smith says:

The worse sun damage I ever received was when I was vacationing in Barbados when I was about 23 years old. It was our first day on the beach and it was the most beautiful spot I had ever seen. I put adequate sunscreen all over my body, but forgot to put some on the tops of my feet. That evening my feet were so sunburnt, red, swollen and so painful that I couldn’t even walk. The next day the tops of my feet started to blister up and for the remainder of our week in Barbados I had to sit on the beach wearing socks on my feet! I couldn’t comfortable wear shoes, although struggling I did when we went into town. To this day I make sure the first thing I do is put that darn sunscreen on the tops of my feet! Hard lesson to learn, but mistake made once, never will happen again!

  15. Erma says:

I was at the beach and got burnt like a loster, ouch. Thanks for the chance to win.

  16. Eileen D says:

I used to live on an island in the Caribbean, so for some reason we thought we were immune to sun damage. When I was about 16 yrs old we decided to spend the day before school started lounging at the beach, and that meant getting up around 8Am and staying out there until 5pm, no sunscreen, just (ugh) baby oil. Well, we were so horribly sunburned we were almost unable to wear clothes the next day. It was painful. I shed an entire layer of skin, it was the worst ever.

  17. K. Cleaver says:

I’ve had a few sunburns over the years that ended up with just some peeling.

  18. salina munson says:

god i shudder even thinking about it but ill share…..i was in a group home at the time, the other girls used all the sun block and we were at the pool from 9:30 am to 9:00pm with 90 degree weather. i ended up having to go to the hospital i had huge discusting fluid filled blisters on my back, my face peeled about 7 times and i spent about to weeks wearing tube tops and sleeping with wet towels on my bed

  19. C. clemens says:

great prize. I never really get sun burnt. I used to not go outside so much. but a couple years ago i got a pool. but i always try and wear sun screen. I do not want skin cancer.

  20. Annemarie says:

I was at the beach for a few hours in the water. Then I layed out for another hour or so. When I got up I was totally burnt. I actually started to cry because of the pain I had while walking back to the car.

  21. Alexandra says:

I was at a conference in Key West and one day I was invited to go snorkeling in the Dry Tortugas. As a redhead, I am used to applying copious amounts of sunscreen to my skin when I spend a day in the ocean. Unfortunately, I forgot to put sunscreen on the backs of my upper legs. I snorkeled for 4 hours and had a great time until I got back on the boat. On the two hour boat ride back to Key West, I felt like I was sitting on a cushion of needles. By the time I returned to the hotel, I discovered that the backs of my legs were severely burnt and purple. For the next three weeks I applied aloe to my legs three times a day!!! The purple color faded to pink over the course of a month. That was, by far, the worst burn I have experienced.

  22. D Johnson says:

    Sweet

  23. Roseann K. says:

My worst burn was in Club Med in Martinique many many years ago. My shoulders and feet had swollen up so bad, that I spent the last few days in a rocking chair reading a book on that “vacation”. When I got off the plane I had to wear flip flops in a terrible snowstorm back home.

  24. Katherine Frazier says:

I still have the outline of my bathing suit on my back from an incident at a lake 13 years ago. I could not lay down on my back for a whole week.

  25. Betty C says:

I spent an entire day in early summer at the pool. By the time I went home I was thoroughly cooked.

  26. Jannet Tseng says:

The worst sun damage I ever had was when I over suntan and I came home with my whole body sunburn. Ouch!

  27. Marcy Strahan says:

I feel alseep at the beach with bug spray on last year & got burned to a crisp!
I would love to try this soap!

  28. Bonnie Arnold says:

I was at the pool and that night I went home and was so red and blistered even my ears were blistered couldnt even wear clothes

  29. Veronica Garrett says:

I laid out on the deck of a boat on Lake Lanier. I stayed too long without enough sunscreen. I got a really ad sunburn.

  30. Susanne Troop says:

Missed lotion on the top of my feet…boy did they get burned…it was hard to wear shoes for about a week!

  31. Donna K says:

I got a really bad sunburn when I was in the Caribbean. I was wearing sunscreen!

  32. Emily says:

I took a trip to Florida once and neglected to wear sunscreen, thinking “I’ve never burned before, why now?” Unfortunately the sun was a little worse in Florida than it typically is in my home, New Jersey, and I learned the importance of sunscreen…

  33. Lily Kwan says:

The worst sun damage I’ve ever received is when I got a bad sunburn when I was a teenager.
