Hi!

As I pen this introduction, I am readying myself to hit the skies…not for vacation (alas) but to explore the spa and beauty regimes at a hotel and spa in Los Angeles.

Most certainly indulgent, and not entirely sane (there are probably more responsible ways to spend the final days before an election when the nation’s economy is in shambles…), it is actually pretty reflective of my very existence.

I’m not shallow, I am just goal-oriented…and said goal is to make everyone around me as pretty and well informed as can be!

My name is Aly Walansky, and I am an avowed beauty product junkie.

And so, when I was approached to take over eBeautyDaily, I got a little hyper excited and nearly plotzed in my non-sensible Betsey Johnson booties.

To all my friends and readers who already know me from my iVillage and SheKnows columns, thanks so much for the continued support! To my new friends, it’s so nice to meet you! Please visit me daily, every morning I will post beauty product reviews, tips, and advice – and, every few days, contests where you can walk away with valuable freebies!

To start things off, I have decided to buy your friendship and continued readership.

Project Runway – 1 hour and counting!

We are getting to the point where I always start getting super into Project Runway – I am starting to care about these folks and the major flakes are gone. But I can’t really say that, I was VERY sad to see Chris gone last week – I thought he was a very good designer and pretty good television too. And well our Dallas boy, Marion – I wasn’t happy to see him go either, thats for sure. Well I guess I am just starting to care about these folks, and that always makes good reality television, no?

So Jack is ill and everyone is crying – tick tock – whats the story? He is a doll, I hope he isn’t too sick.

Ok, so OMG – I just did a little poking around the internet, and Ill be damned if he doesn’t have…

(this is a spoiler, so I’ll talk more about this after the jump)

MRSA. Unbelievable. Unbelievable how this is touching our lives everywhere we turn. I haven’t rattled on too much about it lately, but my hubby had an MRSA infection in his spinal column 3 years ago, and was on life support for 2 weeks, and in the hospital for a month. Thank God he is doing wonderfully today. And we know from the gossip rags that Jack is doing well too – or sure appears to be having the time of his life – so big hugs to him. Lord only knows what he has been through. I would suspect that he will be leaving the show tonight, with his HIV+ status, and the potential that MRSA has to absolutely bring you down, there is no way he could continue with the stress that competition must put on your body. I sure hope he leaves anyway. And darn it, I just about had him to win. Poor guy.

eBeautyDaily – Comments For A Cure

Myself and many of my friends at The Beauty Blog Network are participating this week in Comments For A Cure in support of a variety of cancer charities. As is my norm for charity work, I will be donating to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

What can you do to help? Easy – just leave a comment. From now through Wednesday at midnight, for each comment left, I will donate $1 – to a cap of $200.

Stop Cyberbullying

I am taking the day off on my blogs on Friday, out of respect for Stop Cyberbullying Day and in support of all of the work being done this week to shed light on the seedy underbelly of the internet. Thankfully, my experience with bullying in the blogging world has been minimal – a few scary comments here and there from some fetishists and just some plain ol troll-types, but nothing that has ever made me truly fear for my life. I have also had some fairly scary experiences with one real internet psycho – but that one was handled with minimal issue once I stood up to him. I have been online almost since the beginning and I have definitely seen all kinds. Truly awful and deranged people do exist, both in the virtual world and in the “real world,” and things like what happened this week with beloved educator and blogger Kathy Sierra really make me want to step back and think about what I am doing. Her online persona is similar to mine – we try not to be too provocative and certainly bend over backwards not to offend anyone. You know my name, I live in a small town, and you could easily find all of my contact information online if you wanted to. I don’t really hide it, and in fact, it is really out there, as I encourage people who have been dealing with MRSA to get in touch with me any way they find convenient. Is this wise of me? Where do we draw the line between being open and honest, and putting ourselves out there for the psychos?

I wish Kathy the best, and she sure has my support, along with a tremendous amount of people. Freedom of speech has a price, unfortunately some pay a steeper price while the rest of us just reap the benefits. Join the Stop Cyberbullying group at Ning if you are interested in joining an organized effort.

If you are unaware of the story, my friend Jim at One by One Media has an exceptional series of posts that will get you up to date (Part 1 | Part 2). Be careful out there, both in the real world and online, keep your eyes open and for goodness sakes, if you are one of those people that have to boost yourself up by bringing others down, realize that is a problem and do what you need to do to fix it. You will be a much happier person, and I would venture to say, so will everyone else around you.

The Complexion Holy Grail

I have found the answer to perfect skin. For the first time since I was a teenager, and actually DID have perfect skin, I got a compliment on my lovely complexion at breakfast yesterday morning. I hadn’t even washed my face yet. So, what did I do different? I rode 4 wheelers with my hubby in the chilly early morning air for about an hour, chasing escapee horses and cows. That chilly air must have closed my pores up tight. So add on to my morning routine – 1 hour of ATV riding – preferably AFTER I have washed my face.

My Skin Care Routine – February 2007

I guess I should get to this before the end of the month, eh? I have just finished a wonderful round of skin care from Ahava – and I highly recommend it (along with the Ahava Spa products – these are all truly exceptional skin and body care products).

Ahava Purifying Gel for oily skin – Love this – lathers, but not too much – it is perfect for use with my Clairsonic brush
Still using the Neutrogena Clear Pore Astringent – still like it, but ready for it to be empty – it lasts forever it seems! Any suggestions for something new?
Ahava Matifying Moisturizer – during the day – it is great – I feel moisturized but not greasy at all – and I love the pump container it comes in. Fab!
Bioelements Sleepwear – I have been using this at night, and it simply is a great night cream. I really love having something extra rich at night, because that is when your body is in repair mode. You all do get plenty of sleep, right?
Ahava Purifying Mud Mask for oily skin – this is a great mask too. It feels more gentle than my old Queen Helene standby – very nice.

Unmotivated

Gosh I have rarely been as unmotivated as I have been today. Been on the verge of falling asleep all day – feels like I have no focus. What is wrong? It is not “that time of the month” – I have not eaten bad things – been on no mind altering drugs – what is the matter with me? Feels like depression, but I’m not depressed either. I feel like I need the worlds biggest nap. I hope I am not getting sick, I am caretaking a throwing up 9 yr old this evening – am I gonna be next?

I hope you all are doing better than I am this week – I am working on motivating myself right now.

Beauty, Migraines, Allergies and Work

I know I have been the biggest slug of a blogger this week, and I apologize. This is the start of the *one month a year* that I have horrid allergies and migraines (what the heck is blooming in Texas in February anyway???) and with that has been a tremendous amount of work this week. And I am just about the worst multi-tasker in the world. Ugh! You should see what my house looks like about now. All that cuts the fun stuff down to the end, so here I am, needing to go to bed and wanting to talk beauty!

Did you all go get your Barbie Loves MAC? My friend Lisa from super yummy and fabulous Cake Beauty (hiya Lisa – long time no see!!) says it is flying off the shelves! I am lucky that my girlfriend picked up all my favorites in Nashville, so it looks like I will have to twist her arm and make her send them to me.

I hope you are all out having super romantic Valentine’s Day dinners tonight – I took my mom and my kids out to a lovely dinner since my hubby wasn’t home (*sniff*) – it wasn’t very romantic, but I do love them all dearly, so it was appropriate enough. I will love my hubby up good this weekend, as he got me a beeeeeeutiful amethyst and pink tourmaline pendant that I have been lusting after. He is such a good hubby. Happy Valentine’s Day, my love! And Happy Valentine’s Day to you all too!

A Thank You

As I am taking down the Vote for Me button in my sidebar, I just want to say a quick thank you to all of you that took the time to give me your vote of support at the Glam Network Awards. Especially those of you who had to register (even though it is a quick process, and I KNOW you will enjoy your membership at Glam). I am sure I won’t win (apparently I am genetically disposed to not winning things), but I think I at least made a showing.

I sure appreciate you all so much, (not just those of you who voted) – you have made writing eBeautyDaily much more fun than it would be just writing it for myself. I read something this morning somewhere where the CEO of Google made the comment that the vast majority of blogs out there have one reader – the writer, and it made me again realize how grateful and lucky I am to have you all. So thank you from the bottom of my heart. And I hope you have a wonderful and beautiful week.
