The old stereotype that athletes do not have a beauty routine to speak of couldn’t be further from the truth.

Between publicity events, award ceremonies, and plain old nights out, they have just as much reason as any other career to look their sexiest!

Recently, I chatted with one of the most famous action sports skier in the world, the gorgeous Sarah Burke, and she shared some of her favorite beauty tips.

Sunscreen is so important these days but not something that is easy to remember. I make sure to always buy a face cream that contains a sunscreen with a minimum of 25 SPF. That way I am covered if I forget!

Being exposed to dry weather, my lips get easily chapped. I always use an exfoliant on them in the morning. I slough off all the dry skin then dab on some Burt’s Bees or Blistex to moisturize them for the rest of the day.

My hair gets really dry and damaged from being out in the sun and snow all day. At night, I coat my hair (concentrating on the tips) in olive oil and sleep on it. I wash it out in the morning and have beautifully conditioned hair like I had just been to the salon for a treatment. I also toss olive oil into my bath to help moisturize my skin.

I often get dry skin in the winter and summer. Unfortunately, many of the heavy duty creams/lotions can be pretty pricey. To save money, I use old fashioned baby oil on my skin. It’s thick enough to do the trick and has a light scent that smells great. It’s available everywhere which is great since I travel so frequently.

I’ve also found that baking soda is a great exfoliant. I use it once a week in the shower to scrub off old skin. I mix it in with my daily face wash and scrub away

Always take makeup off at the end of the day. I often get tired and don’t want to bother washing my face. Sometimes, I have to force myself to do it. Thank goodness for premoistened cloths! They have saved my life. No excuses now. I keep them handy on my bedside table. I whip one out, and 1 minute later I’m cleansed and clean. I don’t go anywhere without them!

When I wear eyeshadow I find that it sometimes creases. To prevent that from happening, I use a damp eyeshadow brush and apply a layer of face powder to my lids and allow it to set. The shadow will stay in place for the day. It takes an extra second, but the effort is well worth it.

I finish off makeup with a little highlighter. I apply a light pink on my cheek bones, on the bridge of my nose to make it appear thinner, and just above the center of my upper lip to make them look fuller. Overall it’s a nice dewy fresh look!

Thanks so much to Sarah Burke for taking to time to give us her tips!

Did you know that artificial lighting can do damage to your skin? Many people protect their skin from the sun’s harmful rays with sunscreen, but don’t protect themselves indoors.
Artificial lighting emits high levels of blue light which penetrates all the way to the dermis level. The blue light can cause free radical damage to cell membranes, leading to accelerated skin aging – and who needs that!

The blue light can cause free radical damage to cell membranes, leading to accelerated skin aging – and who needs that!

Bioelements Lutein Indoor Protective Day Crème is the first and only product on the market designed specifically to address harmful blue light.

This new, rich cream moisturizer utilizes 100% natural lutein derived from the petal of the marigold flower. The natural yellow carotenoid pigment only found in lutein absorbs and filters out potentially damaging blue light from visible light. It sounds like an interesting technology and we can all use as much anti-aging protection as we can get.

The lutein in this cream is a highly effective antioxidant that hydrates the skin and also helps to protect it from indoor pollution. You can get Bioelements Lutein Indoor Protective Day Crème for $49.50 (2.5 oz). It is available online at Dermstore.com or SkinCareRX.com, as well as in spas nationwide.

Bioelements is used by makeup artists on the sets of Ugly Betty, Brothers and Sisters, Dancing with the Stars, and Kath & Kim.

Summertime might as well be renamed “Smudging Time” as far as I’m concerned. It’s a common sight of summer – the heat and humidity can wipe out an entire face full of makeup lickety-split. But if there is one makeup essential I refuse to leave my domain without, it’s mascara. Seriously, my lashes (which are loooong, but sparse) disappear without it. So it is of utmost importance to keep that ’scara on my fringe, agreed?
Now while most of us know [...]
Post from: eBeautyDaily

Summertime might as well be renamed “Smudging Time” as far as I’m concerned. It’s a common sight of summer – the heat and humidity can wipe out an entire face full of makeup lickety-split. But if there is one makeup essential I refuse to leave my domain without, it’s mascara. Seriously, my lashes (which are loooong, but sparse) disappear without it. So it is of utmost importance to keep that ’scara on my fringe, agreed?

Now while most of us know to start at the base of the lash and gently work our way from root to tip, what happens when you get to the tip and end up smudging onto your lid? The lid that happens to hold your painstakingly applied concealer and shadow, both base and accent colors. The lid that took you ages to perfect and seconds to destroy? Yeah, that one.

Well, here’s a tip I learned from Woman’s World magazine that I will now use ’til the end of time. Give it a try – it’s as close to miraculous as falsies (lashes, that is. Not boobs.)

Before wanding up, grab a simple Post-It note and apply it to your lid. Swipe on your mascara, allowing any erroneous inkings to end up on the paper and not your flesh, let the mascara dry, and voila! Just don’t forget to remove the paper, or you’ll have bigger problems than ink on your eyelid.

Great tip, eh?
