Each of the women nominated for best actress in a drama and in a comedy will receive one to commemorate her achievement. In addition to the compacts gifted to the likes of Angelina and Meryl (9 in total), one last compact will be auctioned off to benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation at eBay.com during the Golden Globes show on January 11, 2009.

L’Oreal Paris Consulting Makeup Artist, Collier Strong has identified the top trends we will see on the red carpet on January 11, they are also included below!

Trend 1
Focus On The Lips
”It’s all about a beautiful bold lip! Whether it‚s warm or cool, a bold, opaque, red lip has a very sexy yet romantic feel. The eyes are as glamorous or neutral as your wardrobe dictates. During the day, eyes are kept simple; at night, opt for a darker look. Either way, eye makeup should be blended beautifully and brows should be perfectly groomed for an elegant look. Finish the eyes with long, beautiful lashes. Pair this look with clean, glowy makeup, achieved with foundation, concealer and powder. For cheeks, use a complementary color to the red of the lip that works with your skin tone. Apply on the apples of the check for a pop of color.”

Trend 2
Eyes—Use Color!
“Whether it’s a wash of color or a bold, dark statement, using color on the eyes looks gorgeous. Try a beautiful violet, blue or dark purple, or coordinate your eye color with your clothing. Try using color on the upper lids only, or on the upper lids and under the lower lash line. You can even add a hint of color on the inner corners and under the eye, just make sure the edges are blended out beautifully. Think of watercolors and softness, that’s what makes this color work! Use a complementary lip and cheek color for softer eye makeup shades and a transparent lip and cheek look when using bolder eye colors.”

Trend 3
It’s All About The Metallics!
“I love a dark, dramatic, metallic eye in black, dark brown, navy or burgundy. It’s very sexy and a great look for an evening party or event. Start with a dark liner that matches your shadow at the base of the lash. Apply a dark metallic shadow on the lid, up to the crease. Lightly run a little metallic shadow under the lower lashes. Use a lighter metallic shadow on the brow bone and on the inner corners of the eye. For a really shimmery effect, you can add an extra highlighter over the entire eyelid. Finish the eyes with dramatic, sweeping lashes. Pair this look with matte, satin skin and keep lips and cheeks very neutral.”

While I am not a great fan of the quality of Chanel’s nail polish (why oh why don’t they improve this??), the colors never fail to totally rock. They have just released the Robertson Boulevard collection:

Chanel polish retails for $25, and is available at your nearest Chanel boutique or online at Chanel.com.

BTW, what I *don’t* like about Chanel polish can be pretty easily remedied. After a few uses, the polish thickens up to the point where it applies poorly and chips easier. Try one or more of these tips to keep your polish in the best shape you can:

1. To remedy thick polish – add a little bit of base coat to the polish, shake, and you should be in good shape.

2. Always clean the neck of your bottle after each use with polish remover – this will keep air out which will cause the solvents in your polish to evaporate and thicken.

3. One more thing you can do, which isn’t necessarily practical with Chanel or other expensive brands (unless you are totally hooked on the color), is buy two bottles. Keep one as a refill bottle, and keep the working bottle always filled. Again, this keeps air out of the bottle, keeping your polish fresh and thin.

Happy New Year! Gone is 2007, welcome to 2008. I remember when this seemed sooooooooooo far away, but time just keeps ticking on by, doesn’t it? Days gone by are amazing – we learn important lessons and we spark great ideas for the future. It is always tons of fun to look ahead and guess what ideas sparked in the past are going to emerge as trends in the future. Here is what is on my mind as we move into 2008:

Happy New Year! Gone is 2007, welcome to 2008. I remember when this seemed sooooooooooo far away, but time just keeps ticking on by, doesn’t it? Days gone by are amazing – we learn important lessons and we spark great ideas for the future. It is always tons of fun to look ahead and guess what ideas sparked in the past are going to emerge as trends in the future. Here is what is on my mind as we move into 2008:

1. More home spa treatments – with the advent of home laser treatments for aging skin and acne prone skin, these will only get better, more available and less expensive.

2. More technology in the hair care arena – the past year has shown us great implementation of new technology in the hair styling department. I would have never dreamed 3 years ago that we could really have advancement in this area – but we have – now I wonder what they are working on next!

3. Interactive online beauty services. You can virtually try on new hairstyles, eyeglasses and clothes, but the technology is still lacking at best. I predict that in 2008 we will have an advent of more and better abilities to upload pictures and measurements and have improved services to greatly personalize our shopping experiences.

4. Beauty by DNA. Personalized skin care targeted to your very own DNA – its already here, and you will see more and more of it. Is it BS? Maybe.

5. Organic beauty – This market grew tremendously in 2007, with no signs of slowing down. Perhaps some regulation coming in 2008?

6. Small cosmetics companies – the internet makes available to us a world of products that we would have never heard of otherwise. Some of these are not so great and are cheap imitations of the good stuff, but others are diamonds in the rough. Small companies making the most of the viral nature of the internet will emerge like never before.

7. Tougher times for traditional companies – there are still a few big beauty companies that haven’t embraced the internet, and are still relying on main stream media to get the word out. This isn’t working like it did in days gone by, and you will see more and more companies digging their heels out of the dirt and joining the internet revolution.

8. Tougher times for traditional magazines – Related to the point above, readership is down, more advertising dollars are going to new media, making times tough for all but the top beauty and fashion mags. Will we have a big one fold this year? I think not, but they might be very smart to follow Glamour’s move towards joining the new media revolution.

9. Online beauty/fashion communities – Social networking is still huge, and new places to share and compare your opinions are opening (and closing!) every day. While several of them are very appealing to me, none of them really engage me that much because I like to write my reviews and opinion on my own web sites. I don’t have the time or the inclination to rewrite everything elsewhere. While I know that not everyone has a blog, boy do lots of people, and a whole lot of people that like to write about beauty do, and I suspect they share my same feelings about it, making these user-generated content based sites a little bit redundant. I think that one of the several Digg-style sites will really emerge as a beauty and fashion leader for the same reason that Digg has attracted so many users – it is easy to use, extremely current (and we all know we love to be current!), and just a little bit fun, with minimal effort (we like that too).

10. Video-beauty-blogging – I have long talked up video blogging to my cohorts here at b5media’s Beauty & Style channel, and I still think this is something that is up and coming and will see a big boom in 2008. More interesting than the podcast and more visual than the traditional blogging (gee, has blogging been around long enough to have traditions?), videoblogging is here to stay. Barriers to entry are reduced more and more every day and blog readers love to get to know blog writers, and with video a blogger can get even closer to their blog communities. Good stuff.

I can’t wait to see what happens this year with my two greatest passions – beauty and tech! I hope you will be with me throughout the year to find out! Have a most Happy New Year (and don’t forget to eat your blackeyed peas)!

You don’t have to get “quite” as wild as John Paul Gaultier did for the spring, but here are some quick tips to update your hairstyle from Mark Garrison for Ladies Home Journal:

Tousled and teased hair, framing the face, is a definite spring hair trend. Tease dry hair lightly, then tie back all of it, or just the front section, in a ponytail for the new “pompadour” look.
Country club chic it’s not — this season’s headbands have an edgy, modern appeal. Slip a thin, elastic band a few inches from the forehead. Don’t make the fashion mistake of a too-thick [...]
Post from: eBeautyDaily

You don’t have to get “quite” as wild as John Paul Gaultier did for the spring, but here are some quick tips to update your hairstyle from Mark Garrison for Ladies Home Journal:

Tousled and teased hair, framing the face, is a definite spring hair trend. Tease dry hair lightly, then tie back all of it, or just the front section, in a ponytail for the new “pompadour” look.

Country club chic it’s not — this season’s headbands have an edgy, modern appeal. Slip a thin, elastic band a few inches from the forehead. Don’t make the fashion mistake of a too-thick band, or pushing the band too far back on the head.

It’s all about texture — spring hair has layers, waves, curls, and they’re all big, bountiful, and bold. To create volume, texture, and that requisite “piecey” look, prep damp or dry hair with some hair wax.

Play the part for a great spring hair look. I recommend a straight part, defined deep and low on one side. Sweep hair into a high ponytail, or keep it loose and slightly tousled. The comb also works for another big spring hair trend, sideswept bangs. Part hair, then sweep bangs over the forehead to the opposite side for a bang update.

Things to notice and apply to your own makeup:
The pop of bright color in the eyes
The “like your own only better” color in the lips
The rosy “pinched cheeks” look in the blush (more focused on the apples of the cheeks than in the hollows)

Dior has a bit more “lively” view of Spring – containing lots more shine and frost as opposed to the more subtle, matte visions of some of the other makeup artists. This looks pretty much like last years spring to me, which is fine, I still love the glowing look myself!
