Bosco Revitalizing Shampoo from Terax is my favorite shampoo for oily hair – I use it only when mine is acting oily – which is a lot lately, especially in the heat of the summer. It is made with good oil reducing things like eucalyptus, peppermint, ginger and menthol and does a markedly better job keeping my hair from getting oily between shampoos than other brands I have tried. Amazing Grace by Philosophy

Since busting out of my one fragrance mode last year, I realized that I don’t “have” to stick with one or two fragrances. I don’t know what it is about me that gets in such a rut with things, but I have realized lately that I am very much this way – I carry one purse til it dies, and wear one watch til it dies. Crazy. I am missing out on a lot here!

Anyway, I have been using Philosophy’s Amazing Grace for a couple of weeks now, and I really like it – it is very light, summery, floral based fragrance, which will be just exactly right for everyday wear in the spring and summer months. Sometimes florals get a little “elderly” smelling, but this one is not that way at all, nor does it smell like a very young girl’s fragrance – it is very elegant. I tried this Fragrance Purse, pictured above, that has .5 oz of spray fragrance as well as a little jar of solid fragrance (fabulous for carrying around in my purse). Shea Butter by L’Occitane

I have been intrigued a bit by L’Occitane of late, and have been trying a trio of Shea Butter products by L’Occitane – the pure Shea Butter, The Shea Butter Hand Cream and Savon Soap (all available from beauty.com). Shea Butter is a thick rich emollient harvested from the African Karite Tree. The pure Shea Butter is my favorite, because I have never seen anything heal my elbows as fast as this did. The Shea Butter comes in a jar, and is very, very thick, almost waxy. To apply it, you must warm it in your palm first, but oh is it worth the wait!!! On the first application, my elbows were almost perfect, after having been extremely dry and rough (and nearly cracked), and not temporarily either, the results from just one application were still showing 2 days later when I used it the next time. I have also been using it as a lip balm, and it really is amazing, I also think this would be great for medical professionals, hair dressers, bartenders and anyone who washes their hands frequently and works with harsh products and chemicals. I have also heard of mothers using it on their tender baby’s skin. The scent is very faint (and nice and clean), and there is no flavor. Shea Butter retails for $36 for a 4.9 oz jar, and a little goes a looooong way.
While the Shea Butter is a great product, it leaves somewhat of a greasy residue, making it fabulous for places like elbows, knees and feet, but not so great for hands. This is where the Shea Butter Hand Cream comes in. It has all of the great qualities of the pure Shea Butter, but no greasy feel at all. This cream soaks in to your hands completely. I have been using the L’Occitane Savon Soap as well, which contains 20% Shea Butter and really leaves your skin feeling hydrated rather than dry and tight as most soaps will do. The Hand Cream retails for $25 for a 5.2 ounce tube and the Savon Soap is $10 for a big 8.8 oz bar. Give these a try, I absolutely love them and think you will too!
