As I grew closer to 30, I realized that was very far from the truth.

Exfoliation is very important. “When you have a layer of thick dead cells, also known as the stratum corneum, what ever you put on in the way of creams and serums has a difficult time penetrating,” says Denise Debois, owner of Complexions Spa For Beauty & Wellness in Albany, NY.

Denise ecommends using a gentle alpha hydroxy acid like lactic acid to gently loosen and bump off that thickened dead layer, clearing a path that allows hydrating ingredients to penetrate easier resulting in a more hydrated, smoother skin texture.

I’m especially grateful for Denise’s advice because, lets face it – skin tends to get very dehydrated during the winter months. We need hydration and skincare more than ever! “I recommend our clients add a hydration boosting serum with humectants and moisture binding ingredients like sodium pca and hyaluronic acid that leave skin soft and provides maximum hydration with a light feel. Use under your moisturizer to give you the extra boost needed during these months.” Denise says.

Currently obsessed about skincare more than makeup these days. I’m looking into getting the healthy glow I used to have a couple of years ago. I know I was a couple of years younger but that doesn’t mean my skin deteriorated that much, right? I hope not.

At present, my morning skincare ritual includes cleansing, toning, and moisturising +1.

Cleansing and Toning

Since I’m in the middle of reviewing this product, I’ve incorporated it in my daily beauty regimen: Anti Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam from Clinique. I would then proceed with toning my skin with the Alcohol-Free Toner from Neutrogena.

Moisturising

Since I grabbed a hold of the OLAY Regenerist Regenerating Serum, not a day would go by without it. I would apply it under either the RevaleSkin Day Cream if I’m staying in or the Elizabeth Arden Intervene Pause & Effect Moisture Cream if I’ll be putting makeup on.

+1

I’m referring to my weekly exfoliation ritual. I turn to Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub for this special need. Though I am also perusing OLAY Regenerist Cleansing Cream (review to follow) which contains microbeads that can aid in the exfoliation process, I still prefer the former and simply use the latter sporadically in-shower.

So far, this ritual has been pretty effective in terms of balancing moisture and keeping my skin blemish free. All I need now is to keep my skin hydrated and re-gain the healthy glow.

What about you, my dear beauties? What’s your morning skincare ritual? Any other tips or product recommendations?

Hi Sasha,

I’m in California and a licensed esthetician and I was reading your blog about using guava on the skin… I have three mature guava trees right outside my door and want to put them to use! How do you use the guava … the fruit itself? or do you make a decoction with the leaves?

inquiring minds want to know!
thanks, – k.

They actually made use of the leaves. It’s believed to have antimicrobial properties or something that kills or prevents the growth of bacteria, fungi or microbes. Just boil a few leaves in water. Use the boiled water (luke warm, of course!) to clean/rub (using a hand towel) the problematic area of the skin. Do this as often as you can. Daily if you must. But this will depend on the gravity of the skin problem.

The affected area, which I had witnessed treatment, was on the skin on the leg calf region. I wouldn’t recommend it used anywhere else. I also suggest that you consult a licensed dermatologist esp for sensitive skin problems.
