I was so consumed with shopping for clothes and shoes in Australia that I actually ended up “just browsing” whenever I wander into a beauty store. And during the last few days in Adelaide, I just picked up a tube of TBS’ Tea Tree Oil Cover Stick over at Westfield cuz mine was running out. See? Twas more for a practical reason than anything else.

However.

I finally gave in and tuned my shopping prowess in the beauty department when I reached Singapore. I was determined to buy some makeup. I had originally planned to simply get me an eye shadow palette but I just couldn’t settle on a particular combination which will both suit my taste and budget (hey, my wallet does have its limits!). So, while trying to makeup my mind, I decided to shop around. That’s when I stumbled upon a MAC counter.

I toyed with the idea of getting one from the Monogram collection, I find them heavy I tell ‘ya! But if buying for the sake of buying from the latest MAC makeup collection is the only reason then I thought it’s definitely not worth it. Esp since I particularly love the blush and nothing else. I guess it’s just not something I had in mind. I’m looking to try to put together a certain look, you see.

In brief, I fell in love with the nude lips and I’ve been experimenting on how to get that look without sacrificing my love for dewy, creamy texture and glossy sheen. I firmly believed that if I had the right sort of makeup, I’d have a blast with it! This brings us to my latest MAC loot (naturally, both are lip makeup): MAC Lipstick Modesty and MAC LustreGlass Beaux.

The MAC Lipstick Modesty is a muted neutral pink; cremesheen. I love creamy lipsticks. It easily glides over your lips, creating a soft, supple texture. Modesty on me makes a good nude hue without totally losing the “healthy” look over-all. You know how, sometimes, you’d end up looking deathly pale if you decide to go for the nude lips? Not like that, at all. Which is awesome (and why I bought it, HAHA!). This look is a huge contrast to the red lips trend, yea?

MAC Lipstick

Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous.

While the MAC LustreGlass Beaux is a lustre warm beige brown.

MAC LustreGlass

Two high-powered effects – Lustre and Glass – in one new lip finish. This amazing ornamental finish shines the lips with hi-shine overlaid with various tones of pearlized glaze. Beyond sexy. Transcends all known shine.

I’m particularly fond of lip makeup and a soft spot for glosses. I’ve been fascinated with the MAC LipGlass for as long as I can remember them having that line but I’ve never gotten around to choosing from the sheer number of shades available. I guess venturing into the world of LustreGlass will, hopefully, bring the same satisfaction.

Yes, I’ve been sporting the nude lips since I bought these babies (translation: yesterday in Singapore, right from that makeup counter where I tested it). It works well with the other beauty (more on this later) I brought back to Manila.

I’ll try to post a lip photo or FOTD one of these days to show off my nude lips courtesy of MAC. Meanwhile, share your own latest makeup look preference! Did any beauty shopping lately? What did you get?

Reason behind that is the long plane ride ahead and getting a bit of rest and relaxation would do me good.

Cathy Turvill, co-owner of Nurture Spa Village, had suggested that I pay them a visit in Tagaytay and try out one of their newest spa treatments, the Nilaib Spa Treatment.

According to Spa Manager Chuchi Silva, this spa treatment is actually developed by and unique to Nurture Spa.

And since I’ve only been to Nurture Spa Village once and was impressed, I had readily agreed and scheduled a trip to Tagaytay and spend a day there.

Checking in a couple room, we were greeted by two (2) masseuses trained by Spa Professionals and a cozy room with carefully made up spa beds. The warmth and hospitality plus the over-all peaceful atmosphere had helped eased us into a calming and relaxing spa experience.

After changing into our robes, our feet enjoyed a little treat via a Foot Wash which involves soaking our feet in warm water with rose petals and essential oils. Then scrubbed and exfoliated using organic liquid wash with crushed corn kernels.

After the foot wash, our feet were further treated to a Philippine foot massage technique called Dagdagay, a traditional foot massage which hails from the Mt. Province region.

Dagdagay, as Chuchi had explained to me, uses Bamboo sticks that are rubbed between the toes, targets pressure points, pinching/scratching, basically, to stimulate sensations and blood circulation in the feet area.

Settling face down on the bed, I notice that aromatherapy is also at work. They’ve prepared a water with flowers and essential oils in a pot which is placed directly where you will be facing. You won’t miss the scent. Definitely. This helped in the relaxation part of the treatment.

Then comes the massage. I was first treated to an amazing Hilot massage. “Hilot” is a Filipino word which directly translates to “massage”. It’s a traditional Filipino massage technique popular for its medicinal effect. Not only do your muscles feel relaxed, it actually also helps in making you feel better from an ailment like fever, cough and colds, etc.

Thoroughly relaxed, the treatment’s not over. It’s time for the “main event” — the Nilaib Treatment. And it’s time to take the lid off the basket that holds the stars of the show, the steam pouches.

Chuchi informed me that the steam pouches consist of fine sand, lemongrass, essential oils (for aches & pains), and Sambong (local herb) sealed in a fabric pouch then wrapped in banana leaves. They’re kept in a bamboo steamer until the desired temp.

Seemingly using the same idea as “hot stones”, these steam pouches are then laid on targeted points on the nape, shoulders, back, arms and legs. Note that instead of lying face down on the spa bed, you’ll be lying on there face up so the experience will be more comfortable — comfortable enough that if you’re the type who falls asleep during massages like I am then you surely will.

The treatment basically helps in relieving stress. The components of the treatment have medicinal attributes that will help deal with certain health concerns like colds and such. Even the banana leaf is known for its antibacterial ingredient.

Capping the treatment off is a refreshing cup of herbal tea. This is all part of the detoxifying aspect of the massage. My nose actually felt congested and they simply explained that it’s a normal occurrence after getting a massage. It’s a sign that the body is undergoing detoxification (and that you did have a proper massage).

After the treatment, I’m grateful that Chuchi had taken the time to sit with me and answer a few of my questions regarding the Nilaib treatment. She tells me that it is recommended for individuals who are looking for a spa treatment that can help in relieving flu, colds and is even great for post-pregnancy concerns.

The Nilaib Spa Treatment is exclusive to Nurture Spa Village with locations in Tagaytay and Abe’s Farm in Pampanga. The whole treatment costs Php 1,800.00 (roughly around $36).

Whew! Quite a list, yea? I didn’t realise that I had tried this much beauty products throughout the year. Can you imagine the ones I may have failed to include in the list (cuz I know I’m missing some!) and ones I have yet to write a review for? Gah. It’s a wonder that my skin’s taking it well. This list will remind me that there should be limits. Hahaha!

Ah, well. Let’s hope that 2009 will be as interesting as this year’s! Wishing y’all a beautiful and an eventful year in beauty for 2009! Cheers!

It took me a while to write up this review. Two reasons: one, over the weeks that followed the purchase, I had hardly applied makeup hence the lack of need for a makeup remover or thorough cleansing. Two, I had wanted at least to have tried using the product extensively before I drawing up any conclusion and such.
Primary reason for opting to go for the Premium A/O over the original formula or even the brightening one is because I’m currently keen on anything “anti-aging”. Is it because I’m a full-fledged 30s lady or just plain paranoia? Perhaps both. LOL.

It took me a while to write up this review.

LOL.

Like what I’ve told you folks before, the hunt for the perfect makeup remover had been on for quite sometime and I’ve set my heart on getting one of the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils. And when opportunity presented itself, I had quickly grabbed it. Without remorse. (This basically gives you an idea on how I feel about this baby.)

Though, some may say that using a facial wash and toner are enough to take care of the facial skin. These two products are known to dry up skin (esp if used too frequently). That’s why I always follow it up with a moisturiser. PLUS I reckon a person’s lucky to successfully remove makeup + dirt with just the two. At least, this is based on my own experience.

Actually, the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil is not THE answer to all your makeup removal needs. I just happen to think that it works really well esp now my skin’s subjected to a colder climate. I have to admit that when I had used it back in Manila, I thought it to be too oily (duh) that it was uncomfortable to use. It’s best used together with the Premium A/O toner (tried out the sample) but the Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner works just fine. But now, it actually function as a makeup remover and a moisturiser. Things that I truly appreciate.

Anyway, removing makeup using the cleansing oil is quite effective. Falls a bit short in removing water-proof mascara but it’s workable. I only had to glide the cotton pad with a few drops of the oil over the lash part a few times to make sure it has indeed removed the makeup but as for the rest of the skin on the face, it’s remarkably efficient. It’s even gentle on the eyes too (in case some would accidentally get into them).

Knowing that it is rich in anti-oxidants (green tea extract) is a major plus. I’ve discovered that I’d rather use products with skin-friendly ingredients. Always best to care for your skin than to put tonnes of makeup to cover imperfections, you know.

Packaging is travel-friendly (no spillage) though a bit bulky. The dispenser is economically sound. Scent is fabulous; very light.

Verdict? Love it. For a hefty Php 2,200.00 price, it can be worth it esp if you’re the sort who wears makeup a lot. I reckon it’s best for any skin type save oily. Great choice for a makeup remover esp for ladies who live in cold countries.

If you’ve tried this product out, do share your own experience. We’d love to hear from you!

Next on my list of makeup must-haves is the blush.
Maybelline
BlushStudio Mousse

Next on my list of makeup must-haves is the blush. I reckon that’s why I had gone great lengths (distance-wise) to get the NARS Super O and I’ve been shopping for other fabulous options for a blush. A surprising great find came from an equally surprising (though I should’ve expected it) source, my mum. It’s Maybelline New York BlushStudio Mousse or also known as Dream Mousse Blush.

Reading up on the product tells me that it has an air-soft formula which provides luminous, long-lasting color on cheeks. It’ll glide on smoothly and blends easily for seamless color and a natural, radiant finish. The air-whipped mousse will deliver satin-soft feel on skin and its long-wearing formula will not clog pores.

One morning, I decided to grab the pot and give the blush a whirl. And whirled it, I did.

The blush is in Soft Plum. Texture isn’t silky, you’d think that its consistency isn’t whipped properly. You’d worry that once you apply it, you’d see bits of residue. So, with a small portion I had applied on the back of my hand.

Definitely, best way to go about using this blush is applying it with your fingertips. Spreading it over the skin is relatively easy, no apparent issue on the application per se. One thing I noticed is that you do have to work on blending the blush properly as soon as you can, otherwise, as soon as it dries, you’ll have trouble subduing the shade if ever you had applied too much and had failed to blend it properly.

It has a frosty finish and it’s relatively light on the skin. It’s easy to apply and it does glide on over your skin smoothly. Result looks very natural and it is long-wearing.

Again, remember to use your fingertips to apply the blush (preferably onto the apply of your cheeks), blend quickly, and apply more blush to achieve the desired shade or flush.

Damage: Php 249.00 (around $5)

Verdict? For its price, it’s quite a great blush find. This is one blush I wouldn’t mind using. I like its finish and the ease of application. I’ll try to post an FOTD when I have this on my cheeks.

As a trial, an impromptu one at that, I had decided to take my new NARS Blush in Super Orgasm for a test run this morning. Ah, the joy of finally getting behind the wheel then the knee-knocking whatev starts. Gah. Expectations are so high!

Shooting from the bottom simply because I had wanted to capture great light on my face. No luck in blind focusing. Sigh. You see a tinge of the Super Orgasm shade and sparkle, though. I had opted for a lighter application, first, cuz it was after all my first try, and, two, I was headed to a solemn ceremony and ultra, super orgasmic blush on my cheeks may turn my face red from embarrassment once I step inside that room. Had to keep it clean and simple.

So much for giving it another go. I reckon I was simply too rushed to take a decent photo. Even changing the angle didn’t work but, again, you can see a touch of the NARS Blush. Hep. I just need to interject, don’t think that my lashes is made of awesome? I fell in love with it when I saw the photo! Three guesses on what mascara I used? PLUS no Lash Curlers!

Makeup in full side light. Ambient, between 8 and 9-ish in the morning. Love the natural look for daytime. I think it’s fantastic to step out of the house hoping that people won’t notice that I did have makeup on; will think that I’m born with it. LOL.

Dior
J’adore
Eau de Parfum Spray
Radiant, sensual, sophisticated, J’adore is a fragrance that celebrates the renaissance of extreme femininity and the power of spontaneous emotion with a brilliant bouquet of orchids, the velvet touch of damascus plum and the mellowness of amarante wood.
It’s not everyday do I get the chance to enjoy the luxurious (and expensive, if I may add) scent of this Dior perfume, J’Adore. I esp love wearing this perfume at night, particularly when on a date.

Dior

The scent can be described as velvet-y and rich but not too over-powering. It leaves an elegant trail fit for women of strength and who are driven. But that’s just me. I can’t imagine it on a girl-y girl, if you know what I mean.

It has become a personal favourite but it wouldn’t be something I’d wear everyday. Too special to be treated as something trivial.

J’Adore is comes in two (2) sizes, 1.7 oz and 3.4 oz, priced at $68 and $88, respectively. Available over at Nordstrom.

My trip to Palawan was close to perfect, in terms of packing my stuff. I mean, I had opted for a bigger luggage to accommodate everything that I may need even when I’m only slated to stay for four (4) days. Remember when I featured the vanity kit I had packed?

Unfortunately, I don’t really keep a separate set of beauty products that are meant for travel. I usually bring the same stuff that I use at home. So I leave some of the things I still need to use before I set off for the airport. Yes, I think you guys know where this is leading. I left something behind. My other Olay facial wash. Goshdarnit.

This prompted me to hit a local drugstore and check for options. I ended up bringing home a tube of OLAY Moisture-Balancing Foaming Facial Wash with Vitamin E.

This facial wash is formulated for normal to dry skin. Though it was a bit damp, rained heavily on some days (esp on the last day!), I didn’t escape the heat or sun. Weather’s pretty erratic, being so close to the sea and all. Walking under the sun can take its toll on my skin. It certainly felt like all the SPF I had on didn’t do me any good.

I have a combo skin and exposed in this condition will bring out the worst in it. I had hoped that this facial wash will provide the comfort and nourishing element to my beauty routine during my vacation.

Lather is ample enough to provide the foam I’m comfortable in. Consistency is just about right as I squeeze the product onto my palm. Vitamin E is always a good thing. And my skin does feel cleansed and moisturised after every wash. I love the fact that it doesn’t irritate my skin.

However, what I don’t like about it is how I find it hard to rinse off. It says it’s oil free but it feels like I just applied oil onto my skin (though I know I’m taking that bit literally). My skin then feels slippery during rinsing so I end up rinsing and rinsing and rinsing until I’m certain I’ve successfully rinsed everything off. Hence, spending more time washing my face.

<ins>Suggested Usage</ins>: Use morning and evening. Squeeze product onto your palm and lather with water. Rinse thoroughly.

Verdict? If you have dry skin and would want that extra boost in moisture, this product is perfect for you. It’s gentle enough to accommodate a bit of sensitivity on skin but still manages to provide a great cleansing tool.

Where to buy?

Olay Moisture Balancing Foaming Face Wash with Vitamin E for All Skin Types over at Drugstore.com – $5.99

If any of you guys have tried this product, too, feel free to share your thoughts. We’d all appreciate it!

Careline Extra Wear Nail Polish
Getting manicures and pedicures are such luxuries that most women appreciate and will even find ways to pencil in an appointment with a nail technician at every chance they’d get. I’m one of them ladies who prefer having someone else care for my hand and toe nails. However, I do suffer bouts of insanity OC tendencies that I have to clean every nook and cranny MYSELF. This is esp when I’m bored and having nothing to do.

Careline Extra Wear Nail Polish

Getting manicures and pedicures are such luxuries that most women appreciate and will even find ways to pencil in an appointment with a nail technician at every chance they’d get. I’m one of them ladies who prefer having someone else care for my hand and toe nails. However, I do suffer bouts of <s>insanity</s> OC tendencies that I have to clean every nook and cranny MYSELF. This is esp when I’m bored and having nothing to do.

Of course if you clean your nails, it’s best to top it off with a nail polish so that it’ll stay clean longer. There are days wherein I prefer a no-colour nail set. But I have to admit that if left on my own in applying coloured nail lacquer, it’ll resemble a post-modernistic abstract fit in one small canvass of a nail. Disastrous. Hence, I stick with colourless nail polish application. Minimal application mistakes. SAFE.

I’m no stranger to this nail polish from Careline. I believe I’ve been using it for more than 2 years now (at least when I do get around to using it, that is). What I like about it is that it lasts longer than most of the other polishes I’ve tried before it. Application is a breeze. It helps make me feel like a pro. Ha. AND shelf life is definitely longer. It’s quick dry too!

Verdict? It’s easy on the budget so it’s definitely worth the try. Go grab yourself a bottle if you get around to spotting it at a local drugstore or beauty store.

What about you guys? Is there a particular brand of nail polish you prefer? Share!

Dolce & Gabbana
Light Blue
Eau de Toilette
A stunning perfume, overwhelming and irresistible like the joy of living. Surprising and colored: the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the happiness of Granny Smith apple, the spontaneity of bluebells. Feminine and resolute: the intensity of jasmine, the freshness of bamboo, the charm of white rose. Deep and true: the character of cedarwood, the fullness of amber, the embrace of musk.
A wonderful treat for this Asian Beauty blogger of Beauty Bento Box to get a a chance to experiment on this perfume by Dolce & Gabbana called Light Blue.

A wonderful treat for this Asian Beauty blogger of Beauty Bento Box to get a a chance to experiment on this perfume by Dolce & Gabbana called Light Blue.

Voted as one of Sephora’s Best, this scent will be an interesting ride for the days to come. Though I’ve only used it once, I’m already impressed with its deep and intense aroma. Notes are: Sicilian Citron, Bluebell, Granny Smith Apple, Jasmine Sambac, Bamboo, White Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, and Musk.

It can be used anytime if applied moderately. And it works well at night, too.

Packaging is not too impressive but it’s easy to hold, so it’s practical. The spray or dispenser is light to the touch so be careful in using it esp when you’re planning to use just a small amount. I like the frosted glass, chrome and light blue cap combo. Gives it a very young and hip look.

It’s available in 3 sizes: 0.8 oz for $45, 1.7 oz for $59.50, and 3.4 oz for $80 over at Sephora.
