Granted, it’s not all the fault of my crazy schedule, there’s tons of factors involved. But still,“There’s no hiding unhealthy eyes,” says Dr. Elise Brisco.

Luckily, my eyes have hope of being beautiful again! Dr. Brisco offered some fabulous tips to keeping our eyes happy and healthy. (Even if the rest of us isn’t.

Uncomfortable, dry, irritated eyes occur when there are not enough tears, and can happen because of

* Dry environments (windy, sunny / hot, air conditioner / heater, winter / cold)

• Environments with too much smoke, smog or pollution
• Eye strain due to extended periods in front of computer screen, TV viewing or reading
• Constantly rubbing eyes
• Lack of sleep
• Medications, such as antihistamines, birth control, anti-depressants or antibiotics

It’s All About the Eyes – AND the Eye Area!

“The eyes are open, exposed organs – so debris and irritants like dust and pollen in the air land on and around your eyes and eyelids,” Dr. Brisco says.

Some things we can do to keep our eyes healthy:

• Clean the eyelids daily – just like you brush your teeth every day
• Irritants like dust, pollen and debris can get caught on your eye lashes; you may feel the urge to rub — but rubbing your eyes will actually push irritants further in, making the problem worse.

Don’t rub!

Excessive rubbing can damage the delicate skin around the eyes. It also promotes the appearance of those dreaded crow’s feet and wrinkles. A product like Visine’s Total Eye Soothing Wipes gently cleanse, hydrate and soothe without the rub.

• Moisturize daily around the eye area with a gentle eye cream.
• Sleeping with makeup on gives bacteria a place to live and hide, so be sure to remove makeup before going to sleep. If you have sensitive eyes, be sure to use a product that is both dermatologist- and ophthalmologist-tested for those with sensitive eyes.

OK, here we go. As for today, I’m rocking the sunglasses.

I couldn’t help laughing a little at the colourful dots on the boxes. They exude a youthful (close to child-like, if I may add) appeal. Even my niece was fascinated with the white boxes with colourful dots, perhaps thinking that they were toy blocks of some sort. Opening them made me grin more cuz the actual product packaging mirror the boxes!

Quickly going over what’s included in the skincare system that are up for review: The Somme Institute 5-Step Cosmeceuticals.

But it doesn’t stop there. The package also includes to special skincare products that’s part of the line.

I know I’m currently using BIODROGA (both at night and in the mornings right now) so it may take some time before I’d get around to trying these babies out. But there’s a possibility I can squeeze it in by using it in the mornings. We’ll see. Using seven (7) products in the morning will eat up a lot of prep time so I will have to think about that. It’s good to know, though, that this skincare set from Somme Institute can be used in the mornings or in the evenings (or both!). Looking forward to it actually. Let’s see if it’ll impress me the way BIODROGA did. Stay tuned for the full review of the products.

Eye-Lifting Serum

Visibly lifts, smooths and brightens the entire eye area for firm eyelids, smooth corners and even-tone under eyes.

The OLAY Regenerist line introduces the amino peptide complex which provides skincare at the cellular level. It claims to produce results like as if you had laser surgery. The amino peptide complex hydrates to firm and visibly lift skin around the entire eye area.

There are two things that came out notable from my experience with the Eye-Lifting Serum. One, consistency is light and smooth enough that you can apply it day or night. Upside is that you can apply this skin care product anytime and as frequent as you need or want to. Downside, a 15ml tube won’t last you very long. And two, the light formula is workable even under makeup. I can’t say it’s a good primer but since it’s easily absorbed by the skin, applying makeup over it didn’t cause any problems.

Suggested Application: Use morning and evening, apply on cleansed skin. Place small dots around the eye area – under eyes, outer corners, eyelids – and smooth in until thoroughly absorbed.

What the Eye-Lifting Serum looks like:

Of all the eye creams (serum for this matter) I’ve tried, this one will definitely NOT take home the prize. I admit that I’d choose the Nivea Visage DNAge Cell Renewal eye cream over this eye serum.

Though it’s true that the skin around my eyes is “velvety” smoother, it still lacks the firmness that I had expected. This is after using the product for more than a couple of weeks. It did even out the tone, thus, making it look brighter but I have problems with puffiness under the eyes and am experiencing fine lines (laugh lines) in which the serum didn’t help me out. Still haven’t finished my tube yet so there’s still room to see if it’ll work down the road.

My aunt, who came from Canada, is a huge Regenerist fan, though. She believes that it’s perfect for women her age (she’s in her early 50s) and Total Effects are for women in their 30s. Does this mean I should really look into the other line? My mum (in her 60s) just started using Regenerist so it will take a while before we can see notable results.

I’ve told my friends in numerous occasions — whenever the subject of skincare comes up, that is — that I’ve always wished that I’d rather tackle dark under eyes over puffiness any day. One, if I can’t get any decent sleep, concealer will work every friggin’ time. PLUS there’s always the perfect eye cream that will help control the dark circle situation.

However, when it comes to de-puffing my eyes, most of the eye creams I’ve tried often fall short in totally getting rid of it. Tone it down, yes, BUT never truly make it go away. Sniff.

Now, here’s another option that I can experiment on, the Shu Uemura Depsea Moisture Replenishing Eye Mask. It should be worth every penny you spend on it cuz, man, it IS expensive! This almost made me want to just find DIY Beauty regimens to go about de-puffing. I just might go broke.

Suggested Application: Apply mask after preparing skin with lotion and essence for five minutes.

Perhaps I’d stick with the inexpensive at-home treatments like sliced cucumbers, cold tea bags, or perhaps chilled spoons! What do you guys reckon? Thrifty ideas, yes? Oh, wait. Perhaps you guys know other ways to de-puff? Share!

Mornings usually mean a mad rush to prepare for the day’s itinerary. May it be us getting ready to go the office or preparing things needed before the rest of the members of the household wake up. We, women, often put ourselves last.

Another thing I’ve also noticed is that, oftentimes, we associate skincare with just the practice of beauty rituals at night, right before we sleep. We often overlook its need during the day. Most of the time, we’re okay with just showering, applying lotions and/or sunscreen, and avoiding the sun.
