My best friend’s guy has been known to get his brows threaded before every special occasion so that they are perfectly shaped, and my baby-faced little brother will never go to bed before well-moisturizing from his toes to the tips of his fingers.

When is it too much? And when is it just…good manners?

The truth is, male grooming is sometimes just good manners: Neanderthal man is long gone, the time when male body odor was the only fragrance required is only valid in the wild (and among my puppies).

Men have evolved, and as brows are known to frame the face, keeping them in order is more important than just about anything they may wear on their body.

The interesting thing is that brows are ONLY noticeable when they are a mess, and if your guy has a monobrow or just a few stray hairs, it may be a good time to summon his inner metro.

Check out the above video, where Aisha Alves of with Picture Perfect Makeup gives a step-by-step how-to on how to groom your man’s brows. Keep it in mind for your holiday parties!

I have, in the *ahem* past, been accused of being eyebrow obsessed. Maybe I am – just a tad. I just hate overdone eyebrows, I really do. I think they are a very important feature, and when I see them too BIG and too LONG, and even too skinny and, God forbid, too far apart – especially on models – it just drives me ape-y. So, I always love articles and features about eyebrows and what do you know, the NY Sun did a great little article on eyebrows today, The Pampered Brow, and as a bonus it was featuring my dear friend Elke – long known in the beauty community for her Beauty Newsletter, and more recently as the founder of The Beauty Blog Network – which I know you all keep an eye on – right?

So anyway, In the article they mention all the latest and greatest eyebrow beautifiers by my beloved Bare Escentuals, Anastasia, Lorac et. al, but what really catches my eye, and what has caught so many other eyes over the last few days is yet another reference to the truly gruesome cover of Sienna Miller on Vogue this month. What do you think about Sienna’s eyebrows?

Here, lets take a closer look:

Do you love this? Am I the only crazy woman that thinks this is hideous? Maybe I am. I am sure you will tell me. I only hope that Keira Knightley’s fans aren’t Sienna Miller fans too, or I am toast. By the way, Keira eyebrows look fabulous after looking at this disaster.

Oh there are 912,000 reasons I have been wanting to go to visit NYC over the past year, and now there is reason 912,001. My friend Elke, the goddess of the perfect eyebrow, is doing some serious eyebrow work this week (and weekends in the future, as I understand) at the Eyebrow Bar at Slope Suds Salon (433 7th Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11215).

About Elke’s service:

“The Model Eyebrow” Service creates the perfect eyebrow that can immediately go out on the town, or back to work without any client touch ups required. Elke’s personalized touch leaves her clients leaving the salon with eyebrows completely polished and ready to be seen with a complete eyebrow, highlight and shadow application. For those not wishing for a made up touch, The Clean Eyebrow is available with customized shaping & tweezing only.

Some of Elke’s favorite Eyebrow Tips:

The ‘Model Eyebrow’ is a shape that looks great on everyone. From the start of the eyebrow to the arch, the line is straight. It’s a classic eyebrow shape that’s always in and looks great on everyone with both thick and thin eyebrows.

Avoid creating a straightness in your eyebrows by not tweezing above the eyebrow. By tweezing on top, you tend to flatten the shape, making it very difficult to create a high flowing arch. You get your arch only by tweezing underneath, never on top.

If you are getting that pinching ouch when tweezing, do what the
pros do. Grab the hair with tweezers and pull the hair with the tips of the tweezer touching the skin as you pull. Pull in the direction that the hair grows, and you’ll find tweezing to be virtually painless.

Ideally, the best shape is the natural line that your eyebrow
already is. If your eyebrows are extremely thick, a very thin eyebrow will not work for you. If your eyebrows are thin, trying to maintain a thicker eyebrow will be too much work.

The secret to model eyebrows, is to never completely wax your
eyebrow. Models know that eyebrow looks come and go, and if you wax only, you lose the ability to grow in your eyebrows at a later date should you want to change your look.

And when I say fierce, it is not the good fierce! I think Keira is very beautiful, but what makeup artist in her right mind would leave those brows in that kind of shape? I know, I am a little fixated on eyebrows sometimes, but I really think they make a tremendous difference in your looks and they are a simple thing to groom properly, and most often, when I find someone beautiful to be odd looking, it is their overgrown brows (Jennifer Aniston). Here is Keira on the July InStyle cover:

This example is not the best one, but it is the only good one I could find of her looking straight on at the camera with no hair covering half her face. Her brows need to have about 1/4 inch plucked off of the inner edge of each one:

They are beautiful eyebrows, they really are. They are just too darned close together. Here is a much worse eyebrow picture from the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere (from InStyle.com):

In this picture, not only are her brows just too close together, the color is heinous. Heinous. Granted, I am not generally an advocate of bleaching your eyebrows, as it just too easy to over lighten them and then they really look bad, but, in this instance, if she is going to lighten her hair that much, please do something about those jet black, too close together <strike>caterpillars</strike> brows.
