We may have finally found a place to coexist peacefully.

I’m loving the scent of Pangea’s Nigerian Ginger, Sweet Lavender & Thyme Facial Cream – it’s super-hydrating and has no harmful chemicals, but is also rich in healthy essential fatty acids (EFAs). like Argan, Evening Primrose, Pumpkin Seed, and Shea Butter. These all help to hydrate the skin, and create a vitamin-like anti-aging effect.

But aside from being hydrating and nourishing, I was excited to see the flavor was actually quite delightful! So, maybe I can give ginger another shot. Though, still, it’s certainly not a chocolate cookie.

We’re now staying at the Westin Los Cabos, which is gorgeous in a modern, almost futuristic way – and their spa is no exception.

One of our first stops was to check out the resort’s spa, a place where it’s simultaneously cleansing and indulging – with definite feels of the sea as inspiration.

As I was feeling already like I was living in the lap of luxury, I sampled their caviar facial. Caviar is actually already known to have incredible anti-aging properties, but it also helps with cellular health and regeneration. That makes it fabulous for sun-damaged skin – which, to be honest, I’m already seeing a bit of. Not that I wasn’t paying attention to the whole sunblock thing, I was! But we’re in Mexico…

Part of the facial was an aromatic neck, shoulder, and upper back massage – which I always love – but the deep cleaning, exfoliation, and steaming of my face was exactly what I needed to get the gunk out and start fresh. My skin feels baby soft now! Which means it’s a great time to … go right back to the pool.

Actually, Simply Face & Body is a new brand division of Red Door Spa, and they have taken the (very timely) mission of offering quality spa products and services at way more affordable prices than you may imagine.

Right now, they mainly offer facials and massages, as well as various types of waxing (e.g., eyebrows, lip, bikini) – hence the name “simply face and body” – and the concept is almost gym-like, you enroll in a monthly membership, where you receive one facial or massage per month included. This monthly rate of is $59!

As a member, you can also buy additional services and products at a discounted rate.

A few weeks ago, I visited their flagship location in northern New Jersey to try out one of these facials – and I have to say, it was one of the best I ever had! I can honestly say the results were more instant and impressive than places where facials go for $200+, and my aestician was friendly and super-knowledgeable. (Actually, so friendly that my gal pal that I was visiting with later teased me that she heard me giggling from the next room during her whole service!)

Why I loved it: Everything there is organic, and they will explain each part of the treatment to you as they do it! This is great – too many women have no idea what is going on with their skin, or what is needed to correct it. I was told I actually have fabulous skin (which I sort of knew!), but given advice on how to make it even better. And they used high-frequency treatment on me, a cutting-edge light technology that kills bacteria beneath the surface so that it’s gone before blemishes can even be born! How cool is that?

Currently, the only location is in Ramsey, NJ – but many more are coming soon. I shall report when I hear more! (Especially if they invite me to try out the others!)

By way of disclaimer, I must say that Joanna has been my go-to for facials for about two years now – there’s just no one else who comes close!

With Valentine’s Day a heartbeat away, Joanna Vargas has now announced a new addition to her spa myriad awesome offerings, a Red Rose Purifying Facial! Red roses signify true love … what better time to indulge?

Roses have a long history of use in folk remedies, especially in skincare because of their therapeutic and nourishing qualities. Rich in antioxidants and coenzyme Q10, the Red Rose Purifying Facial is suitable for all skin types -especially dry, sensitive or aging skins. Besides purifying the skin, the facial soothes red, inflamed skin and strengthens capillaries.

“The scent of roses is uplifting … and if a whiff of the fragrance can help melt away the stresses of the day, think about the beauty benefits that can result from genuine rose extracts and oils being applied directly to your skin,” says Joanna.

The salon is located at:
501 Fifth Avenue – Suite 707
New York, NY 10017

I still love to have beauty night, just as much as I did when I was spending the night at my girlfriends homes as a teenager. A nice facial is a great thing to do for your skin, whether it is at home or at the spa. Back in Knoxville, where I lived most of my life, I had the most wonderful esthetician and have never been able to replace her any better than I could do it myself, so here is what I do:

1. Put my hair back with a headband and wash my face – Using my regular cleanser, and very warm water, wash my face well.

2. Steam – either with a facial steamer or a boiling pot of water over the stove (be careful!!). Sit with your face as close to the steam as is comfortable for you. You can put a towel over your head and let it hang down so you create a mini steam bath for your face. Steam for about 5 minutes.
3. Extractions – I hate this word, but there are no better ones. I use either my favorite extraction tool or the pore vacuum, do NOT use your fingers. You will bruise your skin and make a big mess, and potentially cause infections (bad!).

4. Scrub – I use a scrub to exfoliate my skin.

5. Tone – Use a toner to bring my skin back to its normal pH.

6. Treatment – Use a mask designed to treat your skin problems, whether it be acne, oil, dryness, wrinkles, whatever. If you, like me, battle 2 things (wrinkles and acne here), use one mask one time, and another a different time. You can also use a microdermabrasion kit or a peel. Choose only one treatment per facial though, you don’t want this treatment to hurt. While you are waiting for your mask to do its thing, lie down and put some cucumber slices over your eyes.

7. Toner again.
