Beauty Beat: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and while you are busy picking up all of the cute pink appliances and lip glosses on the market this month, don’t forget to make an appointment for a mammogram, if you are of that age. Regardless of your age, you need a regular schedule of breast self exams if you do not currently have one. I do it every month on the date of my birthday, in my case the 22nd, because it is easy for me to remember. Looking your best is important, no doubt, but it pales in comparison to taking care of yourself from the inside out. There is an unmistakable natural beauty in a person who is healthy, a radiance that cannot be purchased. Don’t you want to be a natural beauty? I know I do.

Beauty Beat – Free Radicals

Skin care has come a long way in the last few years with several good theories about how your skin ages, each with solutions that really help. One of them is the free radical theory. Very basically this means that the sun and other environmental factors cause free radicals to form in your body. These are molecules that have no home and that damage other stable molecules by trying to attach to them. What does this mean for you? It means the degeneration of your skin – and the “w” word – yes, wrinkles. Antioxidants help eliminate free radicals and in some cases repair the damage they have done. Do a little research on them, they really are good for your skin. You can take them internally and slather them on externally and reap all of the benefits they have to offer!

Beauty Beat – Fall is a’comin’!

Fall is a’comin’! Although it is still 100+ degrees where I am, I have heard several people lately lamenting the end of the summer as they are feeling the cool breezes of fall moving in. It will likely be October before I am feeling any cool breezes, but that is neither here nor there. What matters is that we can start stocking up on some of the fabulous new fall colors in cosmetics! Think deep, rich jewel tones and dark smoky eyes. Don’t miss the new collections from Shu Uemura, the master of the eyes, and from Stila and Nars. Gorgeous, rich colors! Doing Battle with Under Eye Circles

Do you get plenty of sleep every night but still battle dark circles and puffiness under your eyes? This is most likely a genetic problem, rather than a sleep debt problem. Careful application of concealer can help, but you have to be so careful to choose the right color that will hide the darkness but not highlight the puffiness. You might be happy to know that there have been some wonderful innovations in skin care that battle these dark capillaries from the inside out. Beat the Heat at Glam.com

Welcome to the last month of summer! Are you sweltering this August like I am down here in Texas? This has got to be one of the hottest summers ever. This is the time for most of us to give a little extra attention to our skin care routine. Whatever else you do, when it is this hot definitely don’t miss your nighttime routine and if you can, give your face a quick rinse off after you have been outdoors. The outside heat will open your pores and the sweat will carry any dirt on your face right on in there and when you cool down and your pores tighten back up – voila – you have blackheads. Glamorous Sunscreen

I have been asked to write a little weekly column for Glam. com, here is the first one!

Sunscreen is the most important beauty item you can have in your beauty cabinet. There, I’ve said it – there’s no need for further debate. All of the Shu Uemura Basic Mascara and the divine Estee Lauder High Gloss Lip Gloss won’t hide the very un-beautiful things that the sun can do to your face in the long term. My favorite new sunscreen find this year is the Solar Protection Pads, by Stallex – they have an SPF of 30, are not greasy at all, and best of all they come with a little case that is sooooo easy to throw in your purse and apply in the event of a last minute outdoor lunch or invite to have a cocktail by the pool! This year, even if it may not help the years of past abuse I have given my skin, I am wearing sunscreen. Will you wear it too?

Glam Beauty Award Winners

It is kind of interesting to compare the 3 lists – and was sort of notable to me that there isn’t but one MAC product in the editors lineup, and bare Minerals makes a good showing in the bloggers list (and the members list as well). And my bestest friend’s favorite perfume L’Eau d’Issey by Issey Miyake didn’t make it either – but that Burberry *is* pretty amazingly scented stuff I bet. Have you smelled it before? Vote in the Glam Beauty Awards

Did ya go vote yet? I did – you can see what my choices were here. Granted, a few of these things I have never used before, and unfortunately there was no room for write in votes, so I did the best I could via what I know from other people. For instance, the lovely, lovely perfume, L’Eau d’Issey by Issey Miyake is my very best friend, Suzzann’s signature fragrance, so although I dont use it (and she would just kill me if I started now), I know it is the best.

The Beauty Awards are open until May 31st, so get on over there and put your choices in – I would love to know what they were!!

eBeauty is GLAM!

You *might* have noticed all of the template changes around here the last couple of weeks, we have had to wiggle into a new outfit that Glam liked a little better, but we are fairly settled in for now and happy to announce the alliance! Glam has long sponsored some of my favorite fashion blogs, and is now venturing into the beauty realm, picking up eBeautyDaily along with several other of my favorite beauty sites.

Currently going on at Glam are the Beauty Awards – I love to share my opinions, so things like this are right up my alley (remember the Allure Beauty Ballot not long ago?). I do wish they had lots more choices in each category, as my true favorites are rarely listed and there is no where for write in votes, but they do have lots of good products to choose from, and it is really nice to see what their idea of the top products are and get some ideas for my next trip to the beauty depot! I am going to spend the next little bit finishing this up and then maybe we can talk about it some more. Go fill it out too, so we will be on the same page.
