Exfoliation is very important. “When you have a layer of thick dead cells, also known as the stratum corneum, what ever you put on in the way of creams and serums has a difficult time penetrating,” says Denise Debois, owner of Complexions Spa For Beauty & Wellness in Albany, NY.

As I grew closer to 30, I realized that was very far from the truth.

Exfoliation is very important. “When you have a layer of thick dead cells, also known as the stratum corneum, what ever you put on in the way of creams and serums has a difficult time penetrating,” says Denise Debois, owner of Complexions Spa For Beauty & Wellness in Albany, NY.

Denise ecommends using a gentle alpha hydroxy acid like lactic acid to gently loosen and bump off that thickened dead layer, clearing a path that allows hydrating ingredients to penetrate easier resulting in a more hydrated, smoother skin texture.

I’m especially grateful for Denise’s advice because, lets face it – skin tends to get very dehydrated during the winter months. We need hydration and skincare more than ever! “I recommend our clients add a hydration boosting serum with humectants and moisture binding ingredients like sodium pca and hyaluronic acid that leave skin soft and provides maximum hydration with a light feel. Use under your moisturizer to give you the extra boost needed during these months.” Denise says.

Believe it or not, before you know it, the air will be drying out, the chill will become permanent, and winter will be here.
That means that our skin will be dryer than ever, and a really hydrating body balm becomes more than a luxury – it’s an essential.
Kiehl’s has just announced their new Imperial Body Balm, and I am excited.
It’s made with something I’ve honestly never heard of before – Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil – but it’s exclusive to Kiehl’s and known to have super skin regenerative capabilities.

Rumor has it the Imperial Body Balm was inspired by Russian honey baths, which are known to be a super-rich body moisturizer, and it also has Cocoa and Shea butters, and Honey and Fruit Glycolic Acids. With all that going on, it’s super fragrant, on top of making you silky smooth!

Will be available in stores in September!

Sometimes oldies are indeed the best goodies.
Around since 1963, Dior’s cult-favorite Dior Apricot Creme is a godsend for even the most abused nails.
This creamy salve is supposed to help with nail growth, but it also improves nail strength, and conditions cuticles. It can be massaged into the base of nail pre- or post- polish.
As someone who is constantly dealing with rough, ragged nails – which makes us look older, by the way – this is a huge find, and a permanent add to my beauty drawer!

Actually, to call me a fan would be like to say that Elvis sort of liked peanut butter. I am obsessed – and the new water-based Hydrating Mineral Veil has not faltered my love at all.
This new take on mineral veil is great for thirsty skin and has a cooling effect, it also helps brighten skin – but in a non-obvious not-shimmery sort of way, which helps to create a smooth finishing touch.
