Earlier, Sophie and I were having a chat on makeup. She was advocating the importance of effective and efficient coverage, benefits of mineral makeup, tips on how to use minerals, picking the right sort of foundation when I blurted out that I’m addicted to gel liners, particularly my MAC Fluidline. She agrees that it’s one of MAC’s that she can appreciate.

I’ve never been an expert on applying liquid or gel eye liners. But holding that glass pot in my hands gave me the courage to experiment and learn. I’ve been finding opportunities to wear it on my eyes ever since I bought it. I’m so hooked.

Ah, yes. Had dinner plans in Makati with friends so that means I get to put on the gel liner again. Yay!

Right now, whenever I apply the gel liner, I often end up with a “winged” look as Sophie had christened it. Honestly, it’s the only way I know how to apply it so don’t go thinking that I did it on purpose. (This is your cue to jump in with tips on how to wear the gel liner, in case you failed to pick up the hint. LOL) As for the rest of the eye makeup, I’ve managed to discover some techniques as I experimented and others were just picked up along the way (with me bugging makeup artists and such, hehe). Never hurts to be more willing to learn more about something you know you’re not an expert of. You’ll never know but you could be walking with a made-up face that’s grossly done wrong. We wouldn’t really want to look like a clown now do we?

As you may have noticed, I spend most time on my eye makeup. I guess it’s one of the things about makeup that I really want to be good at. I’m still learning and I’m always happy whenever I get to try out something new esp when it turns out okay.

P.S. I toned the lipstick down by wiping some off. The shade’s naturally redder and darker. Will tell you more about it at a later post.

A pretty bold move for a MAC n00b like myself to be sporting such lovely, lovely eye makeup. But I had to find out how MAC fafi eyes would look on me. My face lit up like a light bulb when the idea came to me. I ought to let a MAC makeup artist do my eyes over, hence, the MAC fafi Makeover!

As much as I’d like to take all the credit for this creation, I’m afraid all I’ve contributed to this was letting my eyes be the test subject. I’m sure the eye makeup alone is already fabulous but with skin tone and eye shape, I simply had to find out the possibilities available for the MAC fafi eyes.

I bought the MAC fafi eyes 1 eye makeup quad, which they claim is best for everyday wear cuz of the cream, beige, and light pink hues. That’s not saying that it won’t work for nights cuz with a little tweaking, you can have club-ready eye makeup.

Jarwin Mañoza has been a MAC makeup artist for two years now. He was very helpful as I made my choice from the fafi collection. After the purchase, he graciously agreed to the makeover (I told him I wanted to learn how to use the quad the best way possible) and had even patiently answered my questions as he did my makeup.

In brief, here’s what he used to achieve the look seen on the photo above:

Base: Paint Pot, Girl Friendly

Lower Lid: fafi Eyes 1, Pink Venus

Upper Lid (to brow line): fafi Eyes 1, Vanilla

Crease: fafi Eyes 1, Hey

Outer corner: fafi Eyes 1, Howzat

Upper Lashline: Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel

Lower Lashline: Eye-Liner pencil, Blacktrack (outer) and Eye Kohl, Fascinating (inner)

Below Lower Lashline: fafi Eyes 1, Vanilla

Eyebrow: Shadow, Espresso

Final Clean & Blend: Powder Foundation

(The mascara is still the same one I applied that day, Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending Treatment Mascara)

A few makeup tips I got from the mini makeover are:

One, best to use light-toned cream-based makeup before putting on eyeshadow so that the colour will stick and stand out. Two, blending brush (for eye makeup) and an angled brush are two of the most important tools in makeup. Three, you can use the Howzat shade from the fafi eyes quad to transform your daytime makeup into a more dramatic one fit for night outs. Four, blend, blend, and blend!

And if you’re wondering about the rest of the makeup I had on, let me give a quick rundown. Elizabeth Arden Intervene liquid foundation, Elizabeth Arden Duo Bronzing Powder, The Body Shop Cheek Colour, and Shu Uemura Rouge Creme Lipstick.

Now that the adrenaline’s all gone, I’m spent. Yesterday was exhausting. Sometimes, good things come in bulk. Probably explains why I failed to work properly last night.

One of the things that made my day was a trip to MAC in Glorietta. More on that later. Hehe.

Even when hanging out with the MAC Makeup Artists was so much fun in itself, of course, it’s never complete without a fab MAC buy, right? I had every intention of buying a fafi. I was supposed to go to the Fafi launch last week but life got in the way. Heh. But this decision to brave it on my own made the experience a little more original. I learned a bit of make up tricks from Jerwin. Again, more on that later.

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to buy eye makeup to replace the Shimmer Wave Palette I bought from The Body Shop that broke into a gazillion pieces a while back. It sucked big time. Sniff.

I brought home the MAC fafi Eyes 1..

.. and the MAC Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel.

Retail price are Php 2,100.00 for the fafi eyes and Php 1,100.00 for the Fluidline. Gawd. I have to admit this is the most expensive makeup purchase I’ve made to date! BUT I think it’ll be worth every peso.

I guess with all the suggestions I got for a gel liner, I’ve decided to experiment on MAC FLuidline. Esp when I saw how it looked on me! Now there’s a clue for what’s next. Heehee.
