Did you know that artificial lighting can do damage to your skin? Many people protect their skin from the sun’s harmful rays with sunscreen, but don’t protect themselves indoors.

Artificial lighting emits high levels of blue light which penetrates all the way to the dermis level. The blue light can cause free radical damage to cell membranes, leading to accelerated skin aging – and who needs that!

Bioelements Lutein Indoor Protective Day Crème is the first and only product on the market designed specifically to address harmful blue light.

This new, rich cream moisturizer utilizes 100% natural lutein derived from the petal of the marigold flower. The natural yellow carotenoid pigment only found in lutein absorbs and filters out potentially damaging blue light from visible light. It sounds like an interesting technology and we can all use as much anti-aging protection as we can get.

The lutein in this cream is a highly effective antioxidant that hydrates the skin and also helps to protect it from indoor pollution. You can get Bioelements Lutein Indoor Protective Day Crème for $49.50 (2.5 oz). It is available online at Dermstore.com or SkinCareRX.com, as well as in spas nationwide.

Bioelements is used by makeup artists on the sets of Ugly Betty, Brothers and Sisters, Dancing with the Stars, and Kath & Kim.

Your skin is a living, breathing organ. But it can suffocate from normal aging, the sun, pollution, and other environmental aggressors, making you look older than you should. Give your skin a deep breath of fresh air with Oxygen Cocktail and Oxygenation. Two high-performance specialists designed to enhance the skin’s protective barrier and "push" oxygen into the surface layers.

Included in the kit:
Oxygen Cocktail, 1 oz. – An oxygen-boosting serum of moisture-binding hyaluronic acid blended with a Tissue Respiratory Factor Complex.
Oxygenation, 1 oz. – A stabilized hydrogen peroxide crème derived from atmospheric oxygen.
FREE Instant Emollient Stick for lips

I have been using this product for a couple of weeks now and it really is nice. While it could be considered a bit of a PITA to apply two products instead of one good ol cream, I always use several serums and potions, so this is very natural for me. I love the tube that the serum is in, so many companies are putting their products in those pump bottles now, and I hate those, I think they are wasteful. In this tube, you can get every last drop of product out, so yay for Bioelements!

To find a salon/spa in your area that carries Bioelements, search here, or you can buy online at Dermstore. The Power Of Oxygen Kit retails for $89.

b5’s very own Olympian, Scott Goldblatt from Timed Finals sent me this article from Health Magazine last night about Dermagenetics, a company that takes DNA samples from your cheek and uses the genetic information it finds to create the perfect skin care regime for your skin. Whether you have a genetic predisposition for wrinkles, dry skin, saggy eyes, and/or sun damage, you will get a cream made with just the perfect ingredients for you. The initial order (with DNA analysis) is $375, with refill orders for $159. Currently they only offer a night cream, but are nearly ready to release [...]
Post from: eBeautyDaily

b5’s very own Olympian, Scott Goldblatt from Timed Finals sent me this article from Health Magazine last night about Dermagenetics, a company that takes DNA samples from your cheek and uses the genetic information it finds to create the perfect skin care regime for your skin. Whether you have a genetic predisposition for wrinkles, dry skin, saggy eyes, and/or sun damage, you will get a cream made with just the perfect ingredients for you. The initial order (with DNA analysis) is $375, with refill orders for $159. Currently they only offer a night cream, but are nearly ready to release the cleanser, an eye gel and a body firming lotion.

Health’s reporter tested the cream out, and here is what she said about it:

I put it to the test for Health and found that it took about 3 weeks to notice any difference. After that, my skin felt softer and the tone was more even—plus it looked like some of my sun spots had faded. After 2 months, the line between my brows was a tiny bit less noticeable, though all of my usual wrinkles were still there.

And also from the article, here is what an expert says about this technology:

“With our current level of knowledge, it would be difficult to analyze DNA from most individuals, predict if they’re prone to wrinkles or accelerated aging, and determine what skin-care products they need,” says Paul Doetsch, PhD, biochemistry professor at Emory University School of Medicine who studies DNA damage, repair, and genetic instability. “That said, with more research, this kind of thing should be possible one day.”

That is good to know. I wonder what Dr. Lei at Genetics and Health thinks about this?

~By the way, I love tips, questions and any other suggestions for topics that you might be interested in. Email me any time at christina@b5media.com and let me know what you would like to read/learn/talk about!
