So when in NYC with Glam last week, our first stop of the day was at the Kiehl’s flagship store in the East Village. Wow, what an experience that was. First of all, the history. We were treated to a video about the history of Kiehl’s – that store has been in the same spot since 1851, its beginnings were as an apothecary, and that has led to what Kiehl’s is now – a wonderful source of effective hair, skin and body products. 1851 – that, my friends, is a mighty long time. You don’t last that long without a wonderful product and a commitment to serving your customers. That, to me, is reason enough to give Kiehl’s a try.

We watched the video, then were given a tour of the (huge!) store and the opportunity to ask any questions on our mind. So I left Kiehl’s with a few goodies, and a whole pile of samples. I haven’t yet gotten into some of the things I bought, but here they all are:

Abyssine Cream SPF 23 – An anti-aging cream containing alga and antioxidants and a broad spectrum UVA/UVB inhibitor. Yeah. This is a rich feeling, non greasy cream that leaves your face immediately feeling soft – I love this.

Ultra Facial Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 – I adore this product too (so does Lianne). This is a great solution to a quick outing, or if you want to just smooth things out a little bit but don’t need to put your full face on. SPF 15 too – sooooo important! This just takes the teeniest amount – this 2.5 oz bottle is going to last me a really, really long time.

Read more about my trip and Kiehl’s after the jump…

Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pak – I have not gotten into this one yet, but will for sure this week. This came highly recommended by Teri, so I thought I had best listen. This is what the jar says: Formulated for dehydrated, under-nourished, and damaged hair, our repairative masque provides intense conditioning helping to repair severely weakened hair fibers by restoring its moisture content. Natural Recipe with Avocado Oil and Lemon Extract. What I can tell you is that it feels great rubbed onto my arm, and Im going to get masqueing tonight or tomorrow morning with my next shower.

Over-Night Biological Peel – I have used a lot of peels. A lot. Most of them are somewhat helpful, but this one seems a little different – you put this one on and leave it on all night, for starters. Ill get on this one as soon as I am done with my microdermabrasion 6 week routine. I have high hopes for this product!!

Last but not least is the Coriander Deluxe Hand & Body Lotion – which I was ordered by my bestest friend (see above) to bring home for her. I haven’t opened it yet, as it is hers – but since I bought it, I might (heh). I suspect it smells divine, and I know, from mucho testing of lotions in the Kiehl’s store that day, that it is a fantastic moisturizing product. Suz, you better hurry on down here and get it, or I might just use the whole thing.

Stay tuned for a more indepth review of a few of these items – I’m looking very forward to working them into my routine! And here are a few more photos I took in the store – it was really a beautiful, beautiful place. Thanks to all the folks at Kiehl’s for inviting us in and giving us the deluxe tour!

My dearest Teri, from Beautiful Makeup Search and our own Aging Fabulous, Celeb Look and of course our managing editor of Splendicity

The amazing Patrice, you might know her better as Bella, from Afrobella – what a true pleasure it was to finally get to meet you, my dear!!

Lianne, who I had met during Fashion Week but really got to know better over a dangerous mix of martini’s and sake – from The Makeup Girl – grrrrrrrrrrl, we could make some serious trouble together, no? LOL

The ultra-fab Tia Williams, from Shake Your Beauty, and an amazing chick lit author – ’twas an honor! ::bows::

Erin from Make Her Up – a new friend, was such a pleasure!

Allison from Beauty Snob – was admittedly a little disappointed that Tina couldn’t make the trip, but Allison was a WONDERFUL choice to send in her place. Again, a true pleasure to meet and hang with you – and I am still coveting that pink bag!

A couple of special shout outs to some folks I got to meet that have been super special to me – Jamie Stone, who was, I think, my first PR contact in the beauty blogging world, and Andrea Betts, who helped me out so much with my 50 beautiful uses for Vaseline post last fall. *muah* – So much fun!!

More to come later!

If you aren’t aware, it is Fashion Week in New York City, the designers showcasing their Fall 2006 collections. The Gods and Goddesses of the Online Fashion World (and I mean that with the utmost respect) in conjunction with Glam.com and PajamasMedia are blogging their hearts out. Live-blogging from the show are the phenomenal bloggers Leslie from Fashiontribes and Julie from Almost Girl. There are really so many interesting things to talk about, and more coming up all of the time, it is difficult to point you in a direction other than to tell you to read all of it if fashion is your thing. If you hate fashion, you might check it out too, the bloggers are reporting all, from the good to the bad to the downright ugly. Check out Glam.com and PajamasMedia as well, who have aggregated feeds from all of their fashion bloggers.
Personally, I stay away from fashion blogging because it is almost a zen experience – or something. Most of what they talk about honestly just goes right over my head. I can tell you if I like something (most Betsey Johnson) or I hate something (can’t pick one out of the dozens…lol), no problem, but beyond that, the analysis of couture is much better left to the passionate fashionistas! I hope that doesn’t make me sound like a total idiot, but I guess, being here on the ol’ Texas ranch, where my daily fashion is my yoga pants and a t-shirt or long john shirt depending on the season, fashion has always been just a little beyond me.

All of that said, I have become truly addicted to Project Runway this season, it actually made me teary last night. If you watch it, let me know, and tell me why Santino is still there after last night??? I think he must be doing the host. Or the producer, or someone.
