My luxury skin obsession is Korres – I live for their shower gel – and as I use a lot of it, it can become a pretty pricey affection.
Imagine my glee, then, that today at Haute Look they are holding a Korres sale! Things are marked down as much as 50%, so it’s a great time to stock up on stuff like their silicon-free primer or their fabulous travel sets.
Sale extends through tomorrow, but it’s while supplies last, and items are already selling out! If you are going for the shower gel, I love the citrus (pictured) or the …read more
Dr. Hauschka Skin Care Sale

Recently, I was hanging out with one of my good friends at our favorite cosmetics store and she spent nearly $400, mostly on Dr. Hauschka products.
Is she loony? Not at all – she’s actually super smart. Dr. Hauschka is pricey – but it’s worth every penny.
Dr.Hauschka Skin Care is one of the leaders in holistic skin care, and is the favorite of many of the estheticians and make-up artists I work with.
That said, I love the idea of spending half as many pennies! Until midnight Wednesday at Gilt Groupe, Dr. Hauschka is having a mega sale!

The Healthy Deodorant

I must confess, despite being a beauty editor, until recently, I had no idea that there was such a thing as “unhealthy” deodorant. Lavanila’s The Healthy Deodorant is a dermatologist-recommended, non-irritating, allergy-tested formula does not contain aluminum or mineral oils.
In case you didn’t know, aluminum compounds are found in MOST deodorants, and have been linked to Alzheimer’s disease and brain disorders, respiratory disorders, and possibly cancer.
So, yeah, the healthy kind is probably a good idea.
They accomplish this by using something called beta-glucan technology to fight odor while soothing, conditioning, and strengthening the skin.
I say, if it keeps me smelling nice, …read more
Lavender-Honey Milk Bath

When I moved into my new apartment a few weeks ago, the most exciting element was the old-fashioned bath tub. I can now take a fabulously luxurious bath (complete with vino and music, of course), any time I want!
I did want the bath to be as enriching as possible, though. And so I found this “recipe” with the help of the National Honey Board. It’s totally worth a try!
Lavender-Honey Milk Bath
-Makes enough for 2 baths -
Ingredients:
3 Tbsp. dried lavender flowers*
1-1/2 cups whole milk, cream or combination
1/3 cup honey
Directions:
Process lavender flowers in a blender until they become a powder, turning off …read more
These Towelettes are Totally a Treat

You know how sometimes you get that super uncomfortable feeling when you’ve been sloshing around in flip flops all day? Your feet start to sweat, and god-forbid, smell…and suddenly, no matter how sexy your footwear, you are not feeling remotely attractive.
I recently came across Giovanni’s Biodegradable Organic Towelettes. These are scented squares that hydrate and sanitize on contact and come in great “flavors” like lavender, grapefruit, and peppermint. It’s almost like a pedicure in your purse!
I love them. And god knows I need a little bit of freshening up of my life.

Lemon Twist Mani’s and Pedi’s

The most amazing hotel I ever stayed at was The Langham Hotel in Pasadena, and I just found out their Huntington Spa has a new organic mani/pedi based on my new fave fruit – the lemon!
Lemons are pretty magic, and by using them in these treatments, they naturally whiten, brighten and refresh the skin.
During the manicures and pedicures, real lemon slices and natural sea salt exfoliate parched skin, and a “lemon drop” of essential oil seals in moisture. It’s like a cocktail for your fingers and toes!
If you happen to be lucky enough to be visiting the area, you must …read more
LaLicious and all their delicious flavors

Lately, I’ve been discovering the LaLicious line of bath and body products, and my skin is super-happy to be acquainted. There’s a bunch of flavors, and each one smells sort of like dessert. (Which explains that name…)
My favorite would be the vanilla/brown sugar body scrub – but everything is made with this awesome whipped technique that includes coconut oil and oodles of vitamins and minerals -but anyway, since I’ve been testing their line, my skin is baby smooth and all those evil winter rough spots are disappearing before my eyes!

Today’s New York Times: “Toxic Bedrooms”

Beauty begins with a good night’s sleep. Perhaps the best beauty item may be the mattress. The New York Times article, “The Stuffing that Dreams are made of?” quotes Walter Bader, the author of “Toxic Bedrooms: Your Guide to a Safe Night’s Sleep” (Freedom Publishing, 2007).
Mr. Bader, a longtime sufferer of the condition known as multiple chemical sensitivity, has founded a company called Organic Mattresses, Inc. that manufactures and markets organic mattresses and commercial mattresses. “There’s always the issue of potential contamination. Polyester and all this stuff goes airborne. Who knows what goes where?”
