I spend my whole life growing out my hair, I think. I love to wear it short and I love it long, so I am always transitioning to one style or another. So, I am growing out now, from this, which was my spring ‘do, to – well, I don’t quite know yet. I have been lusting lately over Gene Simmon’s wife, Shannon Tweed’s, hair – it really is gorgeous – see (and, ahem, Gene isn’t looking so bad after all that surgery either, eh?)? I always cut it off before it makes it that long though. Impatient.
So, I have discovered this wonderful hair *doo dad* – called the HairZing. I was sent a press release about it a while back and took a peek, and was pretty intrigued, but I recently got my hot little hands on one, and WOW. I really do love it. This is the ultimate gorgeous tool for whipping your hair up in the hot TX summer. It is dressy, it is casual – really its just as cute as it can be, and super easy to use. I have a drawer full of doo dads that are NOT so easy to use. Are you like me?

So here is a little clip of me putting it in – I think you can see how pretty it is and how easy it is to put in and truly make an elegant style. Not saying that this particular style is so elegant, it needs a little work, but you can see the HairZing in action at any rate.

The HairZing is available in a ton of different colors, you can see them on the site here. They come in several different sizes as well, so poke around over there for a few minutes and see what they have. The one I have was $12.50, and the most expensive one I saw while poking around at their site was $13.95.

The quality is fantastic – the material they use to string the beads on between the combs (which are on each side, and are made of metal wire), is a super stretchy plastic – not pinchy elastic – think thick stretchy fishing wire. I have given it some pretty rigorous stretch testing, and its all good. The way you stretch it when you put it in makes it stay in so very well – truly, all day – it won’t budge a bit. I love this, and I am ordering a bunch more right away. And if you are the socially responsible type, which I hope you are, don’t miss their company story. They are nice folks and all about taking care of people and giving them a leg up in the world. Good stuff. Let me know if you try these out and how much you love them, ok?

These are two articles from my friend Doug Marshall, who, although a man, is a makeup loving product junkie “of the most severe form.” His words, not mine.

Doug has two articles out on HarpersMarket this month, that I found to be wonderful, and I think you will too. The first is his confession:

It was clear I had more than enough of everything: serums, exfoliating cleansers, masks, scrubs, eye creams, moisturizers, hair masks, color enhancing conditioners (for shades of hair I don’t even have), self tanners and makeup. Yes, makeup; two dop kits filled with makeup – and I’m a guy. I was looking for space to file some new finds from Sephora – which I again didn’t need, couldn’t afford, and which probably wouldn’t be able to satiate the inner hunger that a product junkie is never able to quell.

And the second is about his love for Edie Sedgwick and her gorgeous, original, smoky eye:

I am convinced that Edie Sedgwick invented the “smokey eye” make-up look. Coal blacked lined eyes – perfectly done and accented with mod tones of silver or beige on the upper lids, thick spikey lashes, dark exaggerated pained on brows…The dark mysterious eyes somehow invited you in and set her apart.

Doug has long promised me some pictures of him with the Jared Leto smoky eye – I am still waiting for those, however. And he introduced me to Revlon’s Bedroom Eyes powder eyeliner, which, although tricky to apply, will give you the most gorgeous smoky eye ever! I hope you enjoy Doug’s work – he is one of the most energetic, passionate people I have met in a long while. Thanks for sharing your work with us, Doug!

Just like the skin care gadgets, I am always on the hunt for great microdermabrasion-type of products. I have a feeling if I actually went and got a microdermabrasion treatment at the dermatologist, I would be in for a much different treatment, but so far I am good, and the home products suit me fine. What makes a good microdermabrasion cream, to me, are the texture and the density of the grains that abrade your face – I like them very fine and very plentiful. If there are too few and they are too big, I categorize it as more of a classic exfoliator – does that make sense? To me an exfoliator is more creamy and less grainy than a microdermabrasion cream.

This is the Skin Nutrition with Phytomins Refining Face Polish. It is a balance between a microdermabrasion cream and an exfoliator, leaning more towards microdermabrasion. The grains are very fine, which I love, and they are suspended in a sort of a combination between a gel and a cream, with a scent that is very vaguely citrus, not unpleasantly citrus at all (not a big fan of citrus). When you are done, you feel like you have had a good scrubbing, which is absolutely the important part, eh? Here is what they say:

Skin Nutrition with Phytomins Refining Face Polish is a non-irritating professional-style polish that can be used daily for professional micro-dermabrasion type results. It contains Derma-Sphere scrub particles, hollow, round sponges, that simply lift and remove pore-clogging impurities and dead cells. Their smooth surfaces never tear or abrade skin. Skin Nutrition with Phytomins Refining Face Polish contains L-Carnosine, an extra potent peptide that prevents collagen cross-linking which leads to the loss of elasticity that causes wrinkles. Vitamin C in the formula boosts skin brightness. Rosewood essential oil, a natural antiseptic and bactericide, is useful in treating acne and can be used on even the most sensitive skin. It helps stimulate cell regeneration and diminish wrinkles.

I guess the Vitamin C is what I feel smells slightly citrus-y. Good stuff – and the best part is that it is not expensive, which is unusual in the microdermabrasion arena, where you can easily spend $50 and up on a product. This is a whopping $7.99 and can be purchased at drugstore.com. Have you tried it? What do you think?

Skin Nutrition with Phytomins some other great looking products in their very affordable line, some that have caught my eye are the BotanicaLift Face Serum ($18.99), and the Firming Eye Cream ($16.99). Check ‘em out.

I have been using the day cream and the body scrub, and while I like both of those, very much, and will talk about them more later on – the stand out product for me is the C is for Clean Gentle Exfoliating Facial Cleanser. I RARELY have a cleanser that I really fall in love with. Most of them are, well, just cleansers – they act the same, they feel the same. This cleanser is perfect. Really. The cleanser is creamy, and it has a very fine, but not so fine to feel ineffective, exfoliant in it. My skin feels moist and clean, but not tight, after using it, it absolutely does not clog my pores at all. I really love this. Give this a try when you can. It is $9.99 for a nice sized tube, and only available at Walgreens.com. Let’s hope it will be in the stores soon!

If you have read eBeautyDaily for very long, you know that I am a huge fan of beauty gadgets – especially those skin care gadgets. I love my Clairsonic skin care brush to the point that I don’t ever want to be without it, but admittedly, its price keeps it out of the realm of lots of folks. So enter the Dove SkinVitalizer. This is an affordable option for a skin care “brush” that isn’t quite a brush, and is so much more.
On a velcro type surface you adhere a Cleansing Pillow, which is a sturdy cottony pad that is full of very nice cleanser. It is dry when you remove it from its packet, but you attach it to the SkinVitalizer, run it briefly under water, then turn it on and vitalize your skin to your hearts content with a rich foamy lather.

There are two sides to the pillow that you can choose from – one is smoother, and one is slightly rougher, in order to get more exfoliation benefit from the gadget. There are also two different cleanser formulas to choose from in cleanser – the Energy Glow and the Exfoliating. Both are great – there is ample, thick lather. I really love these tools partially because I really feel like they do a great job cleaning your skin, but I also feel like the vibrations do some toning of your facial muscles, which can’t be a bad thing, right?

Prior to finding the Holy Grail of skin care brushes, I had tried every other brush type that is on the market – truly. I absolutely despise most of them. Don’t waste your money on the ones that use any form of stick-on foam pad – they are all a waste of money, and cost alot more than this SkinVitalizer. The pads slip off, they are a mess. The Skin Vitalizer pads don’t move, they attach in a sort of velcro-y way. They really do work perfectly and are ergonomically designed to fit your every curve on your face. You can get this brush at your local drugstore at prices around $13, and you can buy the cleansing pads for around $4.50 for 14 of them. I hope you like them as much as I do – please let me know what you think when you try it!

I had a nice chat today with Fiona Costello, proprietress of the UK’s BeautySwapShop, a fairly new place where you can meet new friends, chit chat about your favorite beauty products and maybe even swap around a few goodies. In the short time they have been online they have been fortunate enough to get a good start with active members, so stop by and say hello if you are in the UK, and if not, keep your eyes open, I hear she is thinking about starting a U.S. based forum as well. This is a great time to drop hints for things to splurge on to make you look and feel more beautiful, and things that will bring you and your honey closer together. So, I bring you a list of some great Valentine’s ideas:

Kama Sutra is known the world over as the masters of the romantic gifts. This year they have a new Body Souffle that is water based and edible:

These come in tasty “flavors” like: French Vanilla Creme, Chocolate Creme Brulee, Strawberry Creme and Cool Mint. Yummy, no? These retail for $18, and can be found in many retail stores, or online at Amazon.

Booty Parlor is another company with some magnificent Valentines Day products – you may remember I was loving me some BootyParlor back in the fall – and this is perfect for right now – the Dust Up Kissable Body Shimmer:

This is a gorgeous shimmer – not sparkley, but perfectly shimmery – and my favorite flavor, Don’t Call Me Honey, is tasty too! Perfect for some slow dancing and sweet shoulder nuzzling. It also comes in Punch Drunk Pink and Crusin’ for a Bronzin’ and is $28 for the cutest round container you have ever seen. No kidding.

Now if you don’t want to get too romantic for Valentines Day, or if you are looking for something for your daughter, this is the cuuuuutest hair dryer ever:

This is the Hot Tools Bugg 1100 Watt hair dryer. This is a travel sized dryer- it is lightweight and folds up and lQQk! – it has the cutest raised lady bug on it. This picture does it absolutely no justice. I love this – it is precious, and is only $24 on Amazon.

Last, but certainly not least, if you are feeling super indulgent, or want to feel indulgent, try out some amazing new skincare from Steven Victor, MD. This is the ultimate luxury beauty gift – this line contains 7 products that are formulated with the latest and greatest skin care technology for anti aging. If you want the best, go with Steven Victor MD:
