The Body Chronicles: A Beauty Play

If you happen to be in or around North Carolina, there is a great sounding theater production playing in Charlotte called The Body Chronicles. The production consists of 5 short plays and 2 poems, all covering my favorite topic (no, not Brad Pitt), self image and just plain ol’ loving yourself just the way you are.
From the Charlotte Observer:
Some of the playlets poke fun at the extremes we’ll go to in pursuit of perfection: The endless aerobics classes. The exquisite pain of hair removal. The morning contortions with control-top pantyhose.
Other pieces confront the more serious consequences of the beauty myth, such as anorexia and self-mutilation.
“Women tend to equate body image with self-image,” Scott says. “And if you have a low self-image, that tends to color all the decisions you make in your life. Your situation with your job, your spouse, your family — if you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin, you put up with things you shouldn’t put up with. You stay in situations you shouldn’t stay in. … It can lead to horrible situations like eating disorders, or it can just keep you from doing stuff you want to do.”
This sounds like something we all can relate to, doesn’t it? All proceeds from the production will go to benefit Girls On the Run, an organization dedicated to helping girls grow up with a healthy self image. Please let me know if you have seen this production and what you thought of it!
