The glass ceiling (er…door) of cool

The following is a true story.
Last week, to kick off Fashion Week, the fabulously famous celebrity stylist Robert Verdi invited an intimate group of journalists to his penthouse for breakfast. I was among them, and super excited to break bread with the man who routinely builds Eva Longoria’s (among others) face.
I rode the elevator toward the top of his posh Chelsea building, and got off. I saw before me a cluster of familiar faces waving and smiling. Happily, I waved back and walked toward them. Instantly, I walked face first into a glass door.
Ouch.
Instantly, the smiles of welcome turned upside down into various levels of chagrin, and while my nose (honestly, just a decade out of the box), began to flow forward to angry retort, my sweet new friends rushed to fill me with espresso and crumb cake.
It may have not stopped the swelling, but I must say, it did ease my pain.
However, as I returned home that afternoon, I realized my pain was very much apparent in teh form of a swollen nose and defeated eyes. And while it was tempting to again use food to medicate, I realized then I’d just become portly and swollen, rather than just the latter.
And so I attempted a different solution.
A while back, CVS/Pharmacy had sent me a sample of their soft-gel Peas, are designed so that they last longer and stay colder longer than your average cold pack, and are meant to help comfort bruises, pains, and stings from walking into glass doors.
They are also targeted for swelling – and I had a cocktail party and a runway show later that night. Clearly I couldn’t go looking like I just lost a game of dodge ball. I applied the Peas and let it do its work while I sent out whining text messages to my best friends and my mommy.
Was I as good as new? No. I’m still not. But the Peas made a noticeable difference at a crucial time, and may have just saved my entire Fashion Week experience. And for that, I am thankful. Lets hope I don’t need it again any time soon, though.
