My tweezing confession is this – I hate cheap tweezers (and hair products, but that is another post). I am a real snob about them. I have tried cheap tweezers and they just don’t work, or they don’t work for long. Two bucks for a set of tweezers *sounds* good, but it isn’t. Ever. I don’t like Revlon, L’Oreal or any of the other drugstore varieties, and I have tried them all at one point or another (when I have lost my good ones and was desperate and poor). You will buy 100 sets of cheap tweezers and your $40 tweezers will still out last them. You need good, precision tweezers. [...]

Oh the memories that brings back – I just got rid of that jewelry box when I moved to TX. And how I loved my Borghese train case!! I bet you still have all of it (you packrat). The video is only a few minutes long, but is good.

How long is the video? I’m sure glad that the current brow is the more natural, but well-groomed brow. I don’t miss those super thin, super-arched brows of a few years back, or the thick, dark brows of the ’80s. I do, however, still love an eyebrow product that I began using in the ’80s, but has gained a lot more widespread following over time–eyebrow gel. I began using it when this product was included in one of the lavish and luxe “Blockbusters” that the Borghese (then called Princess Marcella Borghese) line put out at Christmas. Boy, that sure makes me miss the ’80s and early ’90s before the internet revolutionized the world. Back then, major cosmetics lines were all competing for your dollar in a very segmented marketplace. The lines that were carried by the department stores–Estee Lauder, Clinique, Borghese, Elizabeth Arden, Christian Dior, Chanel, Lancome–yes, children, this was in the dark, dark days before M.A.C., and those that followed–Stila, Lorac, Bobbi Brown–anyway, these lines were in stiff competition for your dollar and were only sold in a very well-defined marketplace. So at Christmas, they pulled out all of the stops!! No little chintzy gift-with-purchases here, these offerings were lavish, luxurious, over-the-top extravaganzas that offered full-size products, not mini-sized samples (and these were the days before everything else in the world except food was down-sized. You got substantially more product back then, as eyeshadows, blush, foundation and so go.) and not just a few products, but a full sample of everything great they had to offer. This was a huge marketing push, and Borghese’s Blockbusters were, IMO, the best of the best. They varied from train cases to a beautiful painted jewelry box that played music when you opened it. And then you opened them up, and it was FABULOUS!! Great colors–I still think their eyeshadows and blushes are great, their shadows have incredible colors from the pigments they use, and lots of them. Full-sized eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks, mascara, and yes, the GROOMING GEL that originally started this trip down memory lane. They even included some of the spa products such as the Fango mud, which they are so well-known for, and brushes!! I know that the train case at least 4 lipsticks, maybe more, and either 2 or 4 blushes, and I think there were 16 eyeshadows, or so, if memory serves, plus the mascara, eyebrow gel, and brushes–all in a nice tray that you could lift out, and then use the bottom of the train case to store the rest of your cosmetics. Oh well, suffice it to say, that I loved the eyebrow gel back then, and still love it today. It’s great for giving your brows that well-groomed look, without flaking or feeling sticky or tacky. I’ll take a look at the video, Sissy!!
