But celebrity stylist Billy Lowe tells us that if you look great, you feel great and beauty starts with even that extra 5-10 minutes in the morning to pamper yourself in getting ready for your day.

From color, style and lashes to simply organizing your wardrobe to save yourself a few minutes, beauty is really a snap. Or so he says. Let’s test this premise.

Billy’s advice: t the top of every morning, try to give yourself 10 minutes. Here’s how to break it down in a few easy ways.

2 minute hair

Either a quick ponytail (gathered at the nape and a side part at the front) or scrunch through the back and smooth out the front. Ultimately, it’s the face framing area that really matters so let the back air-dry and spend your time perfecting the front (face framing) area.

1 minute make-up

Lashes & gloss. It doesn’t have to be perfect and it doesn’t have to be dramatic. This is quick and easy make-up that will give you a “pick-me-up” before running out the door.
or
3 minute make-up

Lashes, gloss, cheeks, and a quick powder.
or
5 minute make-up

Lashes, gloss, cheeks, powder, define the eyes and lips a little more.

Billy’s advice took seven minutes – which means I have 3 minutes to find a great outfit – perfect, since I have to leave for my cruise…now. At least now I’ll be pretty!

According to celebrity makeup artist Douglas Otera, some of the hottest fall colors for us to consider adding to our cosmetics box are dusky purples, blues and deep plums.

Douglas says a way to do this is to experiment with a dark purple or sapphire eye paired with nude, matte lip, or a wine-dark lipstick. To finish the look add just a slash of eyeliner and mascara!

“I will say this season it’s all about clean! A clean and bright face. Whether you decide to go with this seasons blues, plums and purples or not, keep it clean. Especially the eyes dramatic or not you want a nice base, maybe a crease and a nice tight liner with mascara.”

A few months ago, I met Lauren Luke at her Sephora launch event, and LOVE her. So, when I saw she had updated her YouTube with some fabulous new tips for Halloween makeup, I had to share them here!

A little guidance is always a good thing! Here are some fab tips from celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman:

Perfect Cat Eyes

Give a silver dusting to the whole lid from lash line to brow line and into the tear duct. Add a sweep of a purple-gray hue to the crease of the eyelid to add depth. Then use a felt tip liquid eyeliner (Brett loves Sephora’s version) and lightly dot on the lid, staying as close as possible to the lash line. Go back over and this time press the felt tip firmly into skin and ‘connect the dots’ to smooth the line, fanning it up and out toward the temples on the ends. Finish off your makeup look with pretty pink cheeks and lips!

Bombshell Makeup

Start with a foundation that’s a shade lighter than you usually use (try Revlon’s Custom Creations foundation). This sets the stage for the crisp, retro look. Shade the crease of your eye with a soft beige-y taupe shadow. With a sponge-tipped applicator, apply a matte, bone colored shadow (or pale face powder) all over lids and add a silvery shimmer along the brow bone to highlight. The black liquid liner is very important. Run from tear duct to outer corner very close to the lash line. Extend liner up and out. Corner false lashes finish this alluring eye look. Fill out lips with a true blue-red lip liner and fill in with a deep red lipstick. Use very minimal blush in a soft pink. Ice the cake with Marilyn’s iconic mole aka your black liquid liner!

Pop Art Eyes

You’ll need two sets of false eyelashes for this monochromatic mod look – one very full, dark pair for the top and a second sparser, spikier pair for the bottom (try Andrea Perma-Lash). Sculpt lid out from the tear duct to outer corner with matte gray shadow – be very exaggerated and rounded and arc it like a rainbow. Take a near-white silver shimmer eye shadow and apply boldly to lid and brow bone. Use a liquid liner on top and bottom, extending on the outer corners horizontally (toward the mid ear, not the temple). Apply false lashes to top and bottom lash lines. Steer clear of blush and go for a very pale, fleshy lipstick or gloss.

Gold Dewy Makeup

Start with an all over tan and shimmery glow (Vanitymark’s Shimmerskin is great!). Gold and peach tones are your friends. Give you cheeks a sweep of warm apricot blush and work it up around eyes. Get an eye shadow quad in browns – use the palest shade to highlight under the brow bone and layer the shades from lightest to darkest. The darker the shade, the closer it should be to the lash line. Use a deep brown eyeliner pencil on the inner shelf of the eye for extra pop. Apply small, corner lashes to the top outer lash line to amp up lashes. Apply a peachy/golden gloss to lips. For the finishing touch, take a loose, sheer gold powder and dust over eye make up and along the tops of the cheekbones.

Smoky Eyes

It’s all about the eyes. Too much is never enough. There will be little other make up so it’s best to get your pow from really working your black eyeliner. Apply base as usual. Use a very neutral lip – clear gloss is best. Blush should be a fleshy, barely there pink. Using a soft black eyeliner, fill in your lid and under eye in quick strokes. Don’t worry about getting it smooth and perfect because (in true rocker style) you’re gonna smudge and blend with your finger. Curl your lashes and apply multiple layers of blue-black mascara (try L’Oreal Voluminous). Once mascara dries, take a small dab of clear lip gloss and rub into lid and lash line. This will give the liner a wet, naughty look. Rock on!

Every time I watch the news, I feel my shoulders tighten and the lines on my face get deeper, says Clarky Davis, The Debt Diva. If you are feeling the same, take time to relax and pamper yourself without increasing your money woes.

Davis has some great ideas for women to be beautiful without spending a ton of money. All of these products can be found at a local pharmacy or discount retailer.

1. Do your own manicures and pedicures. There are cheap nail kits and polishes to help and offer variety.

2. Use facial creams, masks and scrubs instead of hitting the spa for expensive facials.

3. Keep a coarse body scrub in your shower. This is a quick, easy way to renew your skin and make your body extremely soft.

4. Use the at home waxing/removal kits.

5. Extend the time between hair appointments by using color-treated shampoos and conditioners.

6. Refresh and strengthen your hair with conditioning kits or hot oil treatments.

7. Use teeth whitening kits or toothpastes. These run anywhere from $10 to $40, but that’s a drop in the bucket compared what your dentist would charge.

8. Keep your body moisturized with lotion. There are a ton of different moisture levels, scents and colors (if you want to be specific).

9. Vaseline can be used for many frugal purposes. Rub it on your feet and wear socks to bed for overnight moisture. Use it as lip balm for dry lips. If your face is dry, use a small amount as a moisturizer.

10. Save money by eliminating the tanning bed. Try an at home bronzer, spray, or tanning kit for quick color. (P.S. These are getting easier to use.)

11. Update your makeup for a new fresh look. There are all kinds of lash extending mascaras, lip-plumping lipsticks and great color-stay products to reduce the amount of reapplications during the day.

12. Buy a sound machine or small water fountain to set a relaxing mood in your house. These start at about $10 and go up from there.

13. Check out all the latest anti-aging lotions, makeup and exfoliates.

14. One of the easiest ways to save on future beauty treatments is to remember your sunscreen. This will reduce wrinkle, sun spots and the chance of skin cancer.

15. Dye or highlight your own hair. There are a ton of colors at your disposal with step-by-step directions.

16. Remove cellulite with an old pageant trick: rub hemorrhoid cream on your thighs, wrap them in cellophane and sleep in a pair of panty hose.

17. Buy a self massage chair, foot spa, or back massager. These are priced anywhere from $10 to whatever you can afford with your budget.

18. Make your own beauty products!

19. After a bad day, create your own spa. Find your favorite, relaxing CD, aromatherapy candles, add a little olive oil to your bath for moisture, then sit back and relax.

20. Have a Pretty Party at your house with your friends who are also trying to save money on beauty products and procedures. It can be hard to paint your own nails, dye your own hair, or especially wax your own eyebrows. This will also give you more choices of polishes and lotions.

THE LOOK:
Classic with a hint of color – Fine complimented her purple dress using subtle shades. For the green dress, he simply created a bolder lip.

EYES:
Fine used eggplant on the eye – it’s easier to wear than lilac and is closer to brown/mahogany tones. He applied it to the crease of the eye and underneath for definition. Fine used CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 4-Kit in Ice Princess, $5.61 at drugstore.com.
He paired the eggplant with an opalescent beige shadow on the eyelid to open up the eye.

CHEEKS:
Fine started with a dusting of bronzer. Queen had just come back from the holidays so she had a nice base tan. The bronzer helped to keep the golden glow going.
He then layered on a rose colored blush on top of the bronzer. It added a hint of sublte color. Fine used CoverGirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Minerals Bronzer in Brown Bronze, $8.18 at drugstore.com.

LIPS:
Fine lined Queen’s mouth with a liner.

“These procedures, which are popular with celebrities who need big results in a short amount of time, are now accessible to everyone who wants to look fabulous for a special occasion,” said Kimberly Butterwick, M.D., member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS).

To be “camera ready” for an upcoming event, Dr. Butterwick recommends the following timeline:

One Month Before:
•       Contour Thread lifts use non-absorbable thread under the skin’s surface to anchor and gently pull skin upward for an effective facelift without detectable scars.  Recovery time depends on the area treated, but lifts done to the jaw line and cheeks regularly require a week of downtime, while other areas have two to three week recovery periods.  Results vary and depend on the patient’s age as well as the skin’s elasticity. Generally, results last two to five years.

One Week Before:
•       The Fraxel Laser procedure successfully treats non-facial areas to resurface small wrinkles, improve texture, tone and pore size, and rejuvenate skin in the neck, chest and hands area.  There is no scarring and a brief recovery period of two to three days.  Results can last for years.

Days Before: Fillers and Lasers
•       Restylane is a dermal filler that adds volume and fullness around the face and to improve the look of wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes.  Minimal swelling and bruising may occur, but patients are usually ready to be seen the next day.
•       Sculptra is used to add volume and natural curves to the face in patients that have gaunt and sunken cheeks from fat loss either due to aging or illness.  This procedure can be done in one office visit.
•       Intense Pulsed Light is used to treat freckles, port wine stains, varicose and spider veins and flat birth marks on larger areas of the body such as the neck, chest, legs or forearms.  There is virtually no downtime and results are very effective.  Mild redness and swelling may occur around the treated area directly after a treatment but will subside in a few days.
•       Photo Facial treatments are used on patients who suffer from irregular skin texture or skin discoloration due to the effects of red blood vessels and brown spots.  Four to six treatments are recommended depending on the severity of the problem.  A patient’s skin will be refreshed and glowing without any recovery time.  Maintenance treatments are suggested once a year to keep skin in tip-top shape.

At this time of year when we’re thinking about resolutions and what to do next year, or looking back and realizing that we’re another year older (YIKES!), it’s a super interesting read.

Even in these hard economic times, 58% of women are more likely to trade off cost for longer lasting results. It goes to show you that women will not trade down quality in their anti aging quest. I also was somewhat surprised that women are not as influenced by friends and marketing of brands as we think (or at least I did). They rely heavily on their physician’s expertise and conformability with a product, basically using his brand loyalty over their own.

According to the study, the top three factors that influence a woman’s decision to either move forward or decline a medical anti-aging treatment, such as injectables are:
1. Physician Training and Expertise: 95% of women considering a treatment ranked a physician’s training and experience with the procedure or product as most important compared with other factors, such as how the product works or how quickly results appear.
2. Gradual Results that Last Two Years: 89% of women preferred gradual results lasting two years over immediate results lasting six months.
3. Information from Physician and Web sites: 99% of women receive information about medical anti-aging treatments from health care providers or health and medical Web sites. When making a final decision, a woman’s doctor was cited as the best source of information.

Additional study results showed:

• Only 15% of women who have undergone previous anti-aging procedures are influenced by friends, family or a co-worker’s recommendation.
• One-in-three women who have had an injectable treatment have also had another type of non-invasive medical anti-aging treatment.
• 58% of women who’ve considered an anti-aging procedure are more likely to trade off cost for long-lasting results.
• 91% of injectable users and women considering anti-aging treatments would rather have results last longer rather than occur immediately.

The New and Improved Bun

Brush your hair and part it the way you prefer. Take all of your hair back and tie with a rubber band in a low pony tail at the nape of your neck. Next grab the pony tail and twist around the rubber band. When fringe comes out of the pony tail, take a few bobby pins and pin your hair around the base of the rubber band leaving and inch or so of straight hair to create a sassy new look of the original bun.

For a twist on this look instead of having your hair perfectly centered you can do this on the lower left or right side of your head.

Curls Amore

Pull your hair back into a low or high ponytail, whichever you prefer, and take a thick curling iron to make big curls. Then take each curl and tease it closely to the root and bobby pin it tightly into the rubber band creating a voluptuous amount of curls in a confined section on your head.

The Faux Hawk

Part your hair from left arch of your eyebrow all the way to the back of your head then do the same on the right side creating a railroad track look, then take thick sections of the middle from the front to the back and tease. Comb each of these sections toward the back of the head to create a dramatic “poof” with lots of volume worn by stars such as Hillary Duff.

For a twist on this look you could take all of the hair and put that in a high pony tail creating volume as well as height.

VaVa Volume

Take sections of your hair and hairspray them from root to end. Use a thick curling iron and tightly curl your whole head. Individually pin each curl to your head with a bobby pin.

Allow time for the hair to cool and leave the pins in while you continue getting ready for the big night. This will set the curls into formation. Once you remove the pins, turn your head upside down and hairspray your hair to create a glamorous look of thick, voluminous curls.

For a twist on this hairstyle, casually pin one side of your hair with a shiny barrette, or a fancy bobby pin to create a more dramatic look. For a sweeping look do the same steps above, but instead loosely grab your hair into a pony tail, and make sure to leave pieces of your hair out to create a romantic, beautiful look.
