Today was the first really cold day of the season, and – of course – it was also a day I had to wake up pre-dawn for a series of early morning meetings.
So, there I was, bundled up, clutching my coffee for dear-warmth, when I realized, the time had come. Winter has arrived, and it’s time to get ready – and do our best to stay beautiful.
According to Dr. Howard Sobel, New York City dermatologist and dermatologic cosmetic surgeon, there are indeed really specific ways to care for our skin as the weather gets colder.
During the colder months, everybody’s skin …read more

Everyone is flu-paranoid right now…and who can blame them? It’s the worst! How much of the worst is it? It actually caused me to miss a trip to JAMAICA last month. There is nothing that sucks more than that, right?

The Importance of Exfoliation

For the longest time, I lived under the illusion that cleansing and using a good moisturizer was all my skin needed to look good.
As I grew closer to 30, I realized that was very far from the truth.
Exfoliation is very important. “When you have a layer of thick dead cells, also known as the stratum corneum, what ever you put on in the way of creams and serums has a difficult time penetrating,” says Denise Debois, owner of Complexions Spa For Beauty & Wellness in Albany, NY.
Denise ecommends using a gentle alpha hydroxy acid like lactic acid to gently loosen …read more

Were you aware Crabtree & Evelyn had an online outlet?
Until recently, I wasn’t! But I am glad I found out, because right now their outlet is having a mega sale where we can save up to 75% on everything from body polish to lotion in fun scents like clementine or basil!
Choose from your favorite scents like Clementine & Basil, Aloe Vera, Mint, Fennel & Ivy and so many others. I’m OBSESSED with the Clementine/basil combo because they blend into this fabulous herbal citrus blend that is both invigorating and refreshing and vitamin-rich. It’s just so so so good!
Also, orders over …read more

Maintaining your skin is a lifelong commitment.
We know that, sure, but that doesn’t mean we always take the steps necessary to maintain it.
I spend a lot of time hanging with my friends – who also happen to be beauty writers – and shockingly enough, skin issues come up. We all know we should take care of our skin, but all of us have individual processes for going about it. No one is wrong, it’s just a very personal process.
But once you find your “road”, taking care of the skin is just like taking care of the body – it becomes …read more
Scary Wrinkles Ruining Your Halloween?

Halloween is a few weeks away, and I’m already super excited.
Even though I’m not sure what I’m going to be…any thoughts?
Anyway, for many people, the scariest thing going on in their life is not Halloween or their lack of the appropriate pumpkin for their window frame, but WRINKLES.
And let’s face it, wrinkles can be scarier than any costume.
So, what to do? I consulted Christopher Drummond Beauty, and they recommended the following tips to have the least-scary facial skin of all:
1. Prep face by washing and applying a serum all over the face
2. Apply a concealer wherever needed in small amounts
3. …read more

My bestie works is currently working in the lingerie industry, and she will tell you that a proper foundation is intrinsic to everything from posture to looking your thinnest.
Well, I agree. But I think foundation doesn’t end there in importance. I think the right foundation on your face is equally paramount.
Right now, on my face is NARS Sheer Matte Foundation.
It has a sheer glow finish (hence the name), and has buildable coverage without being weighty. This helps it to do the job it’s meant to do: it enhances, not masks, your complexion.
The result? I’m feeling pretty luminous!
La Prairie Anti-Aging Concealer

I had breakfast with the La Prairie team last week, and learned about their amazing new fragrance launch – more on that soon – but first I wanted to share the also-new anti-aging concealer I learned about.
Concealers are tough – you need them for everything from imperfections to under-eye darkness, but you also need something that, ideally, will be a perfect base for stuff like shadows and also not accentuate lines.
How about if it did ALL that…firmed/hydrated and protects to help prevent future lines, wrinkles and discoloration?
I can honestly say that La Prairie’s new concealer does ALL these things. It’s …read more

I have been testing Estee Lauder’s new Advanced Night Repair for the last few weeks–I started just before Fashion Week–and I figured I’d give you guys an update.
Basically, I loved it all along because it seemed to convey, within one adorable little brown bottle, the fairy-tale concept of beauty sleep! It is, as the name suggests, night repair, because it works with our “clock genes”, to repair the DNA of our cells with revolutionary Chronolux Technology. Repairing DNA makes cells healthier, which makes them younger, and so forth.
So, here’s what I’ve been doing: Every single night for the past …read more
