CLEANSE
As winter arrives, the temperatures drop and the indoor heat goes on – both of which are considered environmental stressors to one’s skin.
Since a weather change alters the skin’s delicate pH balance, one’s skincare routine should “change with the seasons.”
According to leading dermatologist Dr. Erin Welch, Denver Dermatology Consultants in Denver, Colorado: “For the optimum long-term health and beauty of the skin, an effective daily routine should include products that can both cleanse and protect the skin without disrupting its natural pH balance.”
Consider using gentle pH balanced washes, such as NEW pHisoderm Cream Cleanser for sensitive skin, pHisoderm’s Cream Cleanser for normal to dry skin or pHisoderm’s new Unscented Facial Cleansing Bar. All of these cleansers will help maintain the skin’s protective acid mantle in order to retain the skin’s natural moisture and healthy balance.
PREVENT
Blemishes are just as common during winter months, so consider using salicylic acid products to help keep clogged pores at bay.
PROTECT
The cold weather doesn’t mean you can’t get a sunburn. Whether snowboarding, skiing or ice skating, your lips are being exposed to extreme temperatures, sun and wind, which ultimately causes automatic moisture loss. To help keep skin hydrated and protected, it is important to use a daily moisturizer with sunscreen because damaging UV rays are still present during the fall and winter months! Using an oil-free, hypoallergenic formula will help to block the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays without clogging pores. Be sure to apply the moisturizer to freshly washed and slightly damp skin to help seal in and protect your skin’s natural moisture. Don’t Forget The Lips! “Always use a quality lip balm with a high SPF that also contains the ingredient dimethicone,” advises Dr. Welch. Look for products such as Softlips sheer lip conditioning line in Raspberry, Cherry, Vanilla and Strawberry, or the limited edition of winter flavors Sugar Cookie and Winter Mint, as they contain SPF 20. Remember to apply before going outside, before going to sleep, and after eating or drinking.
