How To Add Comments To Your Tumblr Page

Is anyone else a Tumblr user out there?

For those who don’t know what Tumblr is, Tumblr is basically a simple blogging platform that allows you to post text, images, videos, links, quotes and audio to a tumblelog.

Personally, if you’re going to ask me what Tumblr is, this would be my definition: Less than WordPress and more than Plurk.

You’re not limited to 140 characters like Plurk is. But the behavior of the content would be similar to Plurk. One liner posts on links, shared videos, funny photos and quotes. And compared to WordPress, it’s not as complicated. Want to share a link? Click “Link”, fill up the required information, click “Submit”. Easy peasy.

Anyhoo, I recently resurrected my Tumblr page and to my dismay, I discovered that people can’t comment on your posts. What the heck right? Where’s the interactivity?! Where’s the community building?! *raise fist*

Fortunately, a friend of mine mentioned that there’s actually a way for your to be able to add comments to Tumblr. *thank the Geek gods*

A few googles after, I discovered DISQUS.

DISQUS (pronounce as ‘discuss) is a platform made specifically for web comments and discussions. It can be used with any website, blog or application. Just add an html tags here and there… viola! Hello, comments!

The best thing about DISQUS: the comments stay even if the website goes away. I remember having that problem before. I wanted to migrate my Blogspot to WordPress. But I felt bad about leaving the comments behind. But with DISQUS around, I won’t be having that problem anymore!

Have you ever used tumblr or disqus?
    1. tumblr is not less than wordpres – it is just different…for those who don’t understand – you can customize the html code in tumblr – in effect, create anything you want out of it, given sufficient widgets and community interaction – unlike wordpress – where there are certain set of widgets per theme and that’s it. If I need any more plugins I need to own a self hosted wordpress blog at wordpress.org!
    2. With Disqus the comments stay. But again, if I wanted to move from say tumblr to wordpress (and didnt want to have a self-hosted wordpress.org blog)….i can forget about my comments!
