If you’re looking for a point and shoot camera that lets you create HD movies, the Canon IXUS 100 IS is a good model to check out.

Usually, you’d want a Flip Mino or the Sony Webbie Camcorder if your priority is taking good videos, but then I’m not so sure how good these camcorders are with taking still pictures.

The Canon IXUS 100 IS is very, very sleek and comes in bloody red, silver, gold and black.

Months ago, I was contemplating whether to get the Ixus 80 IS or the Canon Powershot A470.

I was on a budget so the A470 was looking really good, money-wise. But aesthetically, the Ixus 80 IS looked sooo much better. Feature-wise, they were sort of similar. But if you’re like me who likes their gadgets to look good, you’d still pick the Ixus 80 IS.

Well, thank the Geek gods, Panasonic is coming out with a sleeker version of the A470!

PowerShot A480 Specifications:

• 10 megapixels
• 3.3x optical zoom
• 2.5 inch LCD screen

The A480 will come in 4 color choices: red, blue, black and silver.

Will be out in Europe this February of around £129.00 (US$188).

No news on it’s American or Asian debut, yet!

I still seriously don’t understand the hype about point and shoot cameras with extremely high megapixels.

For one thing, I don’t see the use since most people use a point and shoot camera for their personal photos. I mean if I’m going to print out my photos on a 3R or 5R photo, 4 megapixel is more than enough.

I totally understand though why most camera manufacturers beef up their DSLRs but to beef up the megapixels of a point and shoot camera is beyond me. Seriously.

Unless I plan to print my party/night-out photos billboard size, then maybe that’s when I’ll get excited about a point and shoot camera with a 14.7 megapixel sensor.

But at this very moment, I just think it’s bragging rights, haha! Oh, plus the camera is red, haha!

Along with a sporty new design, the SD990 IS uses Canon’s latest image processor, DIGIC 4. The processor is apparently what we can thank for Servo AF, “a form of continuous focus tracking for moving subjects,” as well as Intelligent Contrast Correction and enhanced face detection features. – Crave

The Canon SD990 IS is coming out on October with a price tag of $399. Will be available in black, silver and a special edition Red version in commemoration of the 100 millionth Powershot camera to be manufactured!

I don’t really understand why this is marketed to the tweens and teens market. The features are similar (if not exactly the same) as most point-and-shoot cameras that Canon has in the market lately.

I’m seriously thinking of getting myself a camera for my birthday this year and I have narrowed my choices between two models: the Canon Ixus 80 IS and the Canon Powershot A470.

Well, if money wasn’t such an issue, the Canon Ixus 80 IS would definitely be my first choice. But then when I saw the features of the Powershot A470 and Ixus 80 IS were quite similar, I started thinking whether it was worth the money to spend so much on the Ixus 80 IS.

Megapixels: 7.1 MP vs 8 MP

The Powershot A470 is a 7.1 megapixel camera while the Ixus 80 IS is a 8 megapixel camera. Honestly, that’s not much of a difference. And I really don’t need that much high of a resolution anyway unless I plan to make my photos into billboards.

Look: Thick or Thin

Have you guys actually seen or held an Ixus 80 IS in your hands? It’s so sleek! And not to mention it comes in 5 different colors: Silver, Chocolate, Pink, Blue and Gold. The Powershot A470 on the other hand is a bit thicker, twice the thickness of the Ixus 80 IS and a few millimeters longer. But it does come in different colors, too.

Battery Life: AA Rechargeables or Li Ion?

One thing I like about the Powershot model more is that it uses AA batteries instead of having it’s own Li-Ion. For one thing, AA batteries are more available. If I forget the battery, I can just buy one at the nearest convenience store. Also, I wouldn’t have to worry about losing the charger too! But ofcourse, AA batteries have shorter battery life.

Now, this is the big question. Am I really willing to spend so much more for vanity reasons? Both cameras basically have the same features aside from the others I just mentioned. They both have Motion Detection and Face Detection Technology which I consider really important, among other things.

Obviously, compared to the Ixus 80 IS, the Powershot A470 isn’t so pretty to look at. It looks clunky and chunky. But I really think it’s more worth my money.

So what about you? What would you choose between the two?
