Juan, b5media’s resident Mac expert (hehehe) has written a GREAT write up in response to my recent post!
If you’re having a hard time to decide which iPod to get (like me!) then I suggest you head over to The After Mac and read his post “If You Were To Buy An iPod Then Buy The…“!

I stand corrected about saying the Touch is an iPhone wanna-be (but I still think it’s a wanna-be! I stand corrected about saying the Touch is an iPhone wanna-be (but I still think it’s a wanna-be! Haha, just kidding Juan) since it does have a lot of great features such as the Wi-Fi and it’s definitely a great video player due to it’s big screen and clear quality. But! With 32 gig of space, I still yet have to think about getting one.

And honestly, I would rather just get an iPhone instead of the Touch.

Personally, I would use an iPod for storage for my downloaded videos. I don’t normally use the iPod itself for watching the video since the screen is too tiny. Augh, imagine the migrane you can get for staring at a screen that small for hours!

So what I usually do is use the iPod AV cables to hook up my iPod to my tv!

Add a bed and some chips, you can enjoy couch-potating to the extreme!

And ofcourse, it’s time for my Gadgenista Birthday Wishlist!

1. A Mac Book Pro! *cry* I want one so badly, but I’m still saving up for it! I refuse to pay credit! When I get it, I want it fully paid! Plus, I can get 30% discount if I pay cash in FULL! Definitely cheaper.
I’m planning to get the 15″ Mac Book Pro with the entry level specs. .. 2.2Ghz, 120 gig hard disk and 1 gig RAM.

I think those specs are enough for blogging and World of Warcraft, hahaha And a 17″ is just too heavy!

Along with the MacBook Pro, I want a black and pink Speck See-Thru Hardshell Case! A laptop sleeve from Avee and ofcourse a laptop bag from Red Vanila… *sigh*

I’m accepting donations for my Mac Book Pro fund! Hahahaha.

2. An iPod video! I still want a white iPod video and I’ll probably get the 80 gig. I miss watching my downloaded series on my TV! Now i’m stuck with watching it on my desktop. Blah. iPod video + AV cables + TV = bumming heaven!

3. A DS Lite. I’m still contemplating whether to get a white DS Lite or a pink one.

4. My iPod speaker concept. I still haven’t found cute portable speakers. But what’s the use, I don’t have an iPod right now. *cry*

5. A New Desktop PC. My 2 year old, 1.8 Ghz desktop PC is dying on me! It’s been hanging like every 5 minutes and it’s annoying the hell out of me. At first, I thought it was because of the Bittorent-SP2 pack problem. I’ve read about a number of people having their Windows hang when they run Azureus or uTorrent.

But I’ve reverted back to SP1 and it still hangs! I’m hoping a good cleaning would do the trick! I hope vacuuming (you will never believe the dust bunny colony my PC has) and reinstalling of RAM and vid card will fix the problem. Wish me luck!

Well, that’s about it! Anyone want to cross out an item on my Gadgenista Birthday Wish List? *wink wink*

Remember my old post, “Are You One Of Us“?
I spoke of the Gadgenista as an individual who chooses NOT the best gadget in the market but the best gadget that fits his personality.
But how can we exactly choose the best gadget in the market if we don’t exactly understand the terminologies that surround that gadget?

Ofcourse, how a gadget looks is a big factor in choosing. Gadgenistas SHOULD (no question about that!) always have a fabulous looking gadget, but ofcourse, it should be functional as well!
Take LAPTOPS for example.

With all the sweet-looking laptops gracing the market, and headlines such as “Intel Santa Rosa Revealed” filling the technology news, or spec pages saying “MacBook Pro is built on the revolutionary Intel Core 2 Duo“…

Do we REALLY understand what they mean? Or are we just going with the flow that since they SOUND good, they must BE good… Right?

*Bzzzzt* Wrong answer!

Ok, I’m here to give you girls (and maybe some guys) a little crash course on some of those scary and intimidating terminologies that go alongside laptops.

I don’t think anyone have any problems with looks right?

We definitely know what looks good or not because Gadgenistas have fabulous TASTE!

So let’s go to the more technical part, explained in a not-so technical way!

The Processor.

The Processor is the heart of our laptops! Without it, our laptops will not work.

Processors basically control how fast our computers can run applications and our processors have chips in them.

Before, our processors used to have only a single chip.

Those were the Pentium days.

Now, Intel came up with a new platform for the processor and called it Core Duo.

It’s called Core Duo simply because instead of having one (1) chip, processors nowadays have two (2)!

Now why is having 2 chips better than having 1 chip?

It’s like this.

Pentium Scenario:
You’re a make-up artist. Usually on a tight budget photo shoot, you have 2 roles. First, do the model’s make-up; Second, fix the hair. That definitely takes longer.

The Core Duo scenario would be:
You have a make-up artist to do the make-up and a separate hairstylist to do the hair simultaneously!

Now with two people doing two things at the same time, things will get done faster!

Better multi-tasking feature!

Now you ask… What is Core 2 Duo?

To keep it simple. Core 2 Duo is just a better version of Core Duo. Not necessarily faster, but definitely more efficient.

So what should u get… a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo?

If you asked me that question like a year ago, I would have a hard time answering you.

But now, I would definitely say get the Core 2 Duo since it’s cheaper nowadays than the Core Duo and Intel is already starting to phase out it out anyway.

While we’re still on the topic of processors, let’s tackle Santa Rosa.

Remeber my post about the Sony Vaio CR?

That yummy eye-candy of a laptop boasts of having the Intel Santa Rosa chip line.

Now what is Santa Rosa? It’s basically the kind or the platform of the chip inside the processor. Having a Santa Rosa chipset simply means 1) better performance and 2) better battery life

Now isn’t that so easy?!

The RAM.

No, I’m not talking about goats. I’m talking about Random Access Memory.

RAM is usually used when we switch from one application to another. The more RAM we have in our computer, the better it can handle application switching and the more chances that it WON’T crash or hang when you try to open a gazillion applications ALL at the same time.

The more RAM your laptop has, the better!

*scrolls up*

Whew, this a pretty long article now!

Next time, I’ll be tackling WXGA and stuff so lookout for another issue of my Gadgenista Decoded!

Editor’s Note: Need techie terms explained? Let me know and I’ll try my best to help a fellow Gadgenista out!
