4 Reasons I Love Canada’s Next Top Model

I’ve been hanging out, eating way too much, and sightseeing in Toronto for a few days and happened to catch “Canada’s Next Top Model” on the tele. And guess what? Gasp, there are things I like about the Canadian version more than “America’s Next Top Model.”

Canada's Next Top Model host Jay Manuel
New episodes air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Here are four things that make this franchise fresher than Tyra Banks’ original U.S. version:
- Jay Manuel aka Mr. Jay is the star. On “America’s Next Top Model,” Jay is the flawlessly made-up, silver-coifed photo shoot art director, but on “Canada’s Next Top Model” the Toronto native and makeup artist fills the Tyra spot as host and head judge. He can even smile with his eyes!
- The girls actually look like models. They’re tall and skinny and come to the judges’ panel dressed the part, unlike many of their wardrobe-challenged American counterparts.
- The show’s production value is far superior to “America’s Next Top Model,” which seems to have regressed in quality since it debuted in 2003.
- Cuddly and lovably bitchy fashion stylist Nole Marin, who was a judge on the first American season, directs the photo shoots here.

The first season of Canada’s Next Top Model was none of the things you’ve just mentioned! From what you say, they appear to have upped their game. I remember thinking the 2 girls in the finale after 10 (or however many) weeks, still walked the runway like girls from an ANTM season’s first episode. In other words, BAD!
Funnily, i skipped over episodes of the current season on You Tube just this morning. Ok, i’m going to go back and give it a second chance. Thanks
You’re right that the Canadian girls can’t walk as well as the ANTM girls, cause they don’t have Miss Jay to teach them to be fierce. But I just thought the production value and styling was better.
