Get Michelle Obama’s Sneaker Look for Less

I’ve already been scooped by the Huffington Post and the New York Daily News, which have appropriately asked if it was in poor taste that the First Lady wore a pair of $540 grey and pink designer sneakers to a food bank that provides low-income individuals and families with food?

Michelle Obama sneakers.

Michelle Obama Lanvin sneakers.

I think it’s safe to say that Mrs. Obama didn’t think her fly Lanvin kicks would cause such a stir.  But I suspect she’ll be making a trip to J. Crew or the Gap sometime soon to see what more affordable sneaker options they have.

Here is a trendy sneaker look-for-less from Nike ($100, Nordstrom) Michelle might consider:

    • Hi Kweli,

Nice to catch up with you, and I really like your blog. Of course, Michelle O can wear what she wants. She’s just become known as the “People’s First Lady” by wearing clothes from J. Crew, etc the average working woman can afford, so I offered a more accessible alternative. Style wise, the Nike sneaks aren’t nearly as trendy. But then again, I’m not really that crazy about the Lanvin sneaks and wouldn’t even pay $50 for them.

I know everything these days seems to be about fashion and what other people have that maybe we don’t, but really, a pair of sneaks on the First Lady. It would seem that people should pay more attention to what the First Lady or Anyone with a Title Or Not is wearing as long as they are trying to do some good for the people… Why has everything got to be about products/wears/or money and not about helping others less fortunate…
