Life Shift: Let Go and Live Your Dream

Have you ever wanted to make a significant change in your life but feel stuck?  I certainly have. That’s what led me to Aleta St. James, respected emotional healer, success coach, and author of the breakthrough self-help book Life Shift: Let Go and Live Your Dream.

During my counseling session with St. James — who is as well known for having twins at age 57 as she is for her healing practice — I sat in the center of a huge, white fluffy bed surrounded by pillows. The fragrance of scented oil permeated the air, and Aleta’s approach was calming and nurturing.

Read my Q&A chat with Aleta and learn how to shift your life and live your dream:

Hot Mama Daily:  How do you begin the process of life shifting?

Aleta St. James: You need to have a real desire to change your life. You have to acknowledge that there’s something that’s not working and be willing to go into the unknown and release you old patterns and actually create your dreams.  There’s so much in life shifting that’s connected to realizing your dreams and highest potential.  Whatever’s blocking your experience of that is what I call a life shift.

In the book Life Shift, I talk about the four bodies: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.  If you want to have a lasting change, it’s important to release the negative patterns and emotional imprints that tell us we can’t have what we want, we’re not good enough, we don’t deserve it, and it’s better to give than to receive. [Shifting] is about opening up a space of unlimited possibilities and the dreams you desire.

HMD: Does your work replace therapy or does it complement it?
ASJ: It complements it.  I deal with people who come to me in addition to seeing their therapist.  So we’re in tandum with each other.  They’re also people who come to me because they feel they’ve reached a plateau in terms of their therapy.  I have an intuitive ability to see where the blocks are and immediately go to it.

HMD: How has motherhood helped you find your purpose?
ASJ: When I wanted to have children [four years ago] at 57, people would say “Don’t you know what the statistics are?”  I’d reply, “No, and I don’t want to.”  They thought it was impossible for me [to have children at that age].  I said, “Just watch me.”  They thought I was being selfish.  But I think motherhood is one of the most unselfish things you can do.  I made sure I was in good shape.  I wasn’t trying to fill a void.  I really wanted to give my children everything I’d learned all these years.  And they’ve challenged me a lot.  Every day, I feel like I’m 61 and I’m winding up, not down.
