Mama Mio Skincare for Supermamas

You never forget the day those two little lines ‘magically’ appear on that home pregnancy test (or the “+” sign, “Pregnant” digital indicator, etc, etc, depending on which test you bought & used). I’ll never forget it. I had no idea I’d missed a period and was preparing for what was supposed to be a wild, girls only, getaway trip to the Bahamas last Easter weekend with 7 of my girlfriends. But Life (and my husband apparently) had other plans…I remember when I told one of my girlfriends about my pregnancy test results. After she laughed hysterically at the irony of it all (of COURSE I’d find out I was pregnant before our trip,that we’d been planning foreverrrrr, thus stopping me from drinking myself to oblivion, eating any raw fish, you get the idea, right?) as a mother to a young toddler, the very first thing she told me to do was run run run to buy myself some Sweet Almond Oil. Not “later”, not “next week”, not when my baby bump appeared in a few months, but, like, the VERY NEXT DAY. I thought she was nuts. She assured me to start using the sweet almond oil right away to prevent stretch marks later on.
I had to admit, I was willing to try her suggestion, #1 because her stomach looked amazing after having had her daughter, and #2 because if the marks I had (and still have) on my butt (that I’ve had since I was like 13, mind you) appeared on my treasured flat belly, uh, there was gonna be a hell to pay. So I ran out and bought a gimongous bottle and used it every single day throughout my pregnancy. I would use it as soon as I got out of the shower.
I barely, just barely, made it through my pregnancy unscathed. I have a few (that my cousin wants to slap me for saying as she thinks they’re ‘non-existent’) on the left side of my–no longer washboard flat– belly, but meh, I’ll take it.
All this just to finally bring me to the point of my post (because, yes, there is one), and that is to talk about a product line I found out about today, Mama Mio
Mama Mio was founded in 2006 by three London moms who have a decade’s worth of skincare expertise among them, and 7 children between them. In this super short period of time they’ve managed to win all sorts of awards and recognition, not to mention a growing list of celebrity Hot Mama clientele: Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham, Milla Jovovich and their latest celeb client, Hot-Mama-To-Be Christina Aguilera just to name a few.
I haven’t tested any of the Mama Mio products, but if I were pregnant I would definitely give them a try. The first item that caught my attention on their website was the Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil.
And guess what the main ingredient is? You guessed it: Sweet almond oil! A bottle of this from Mama Mio will cost you $30.00 USD, which is perfectly reasonable because I paid $22.00 for a bottle of sweet almond oil at my local natural health food store at the time. The great thing is you only buy a bottle once. You can use that same bottle for all of your pregnancies because you don’t need much, and it is such a great absorbent. It doesn’t have an odor and it doesn’t mess up your clothes. However, you do have to give it a chance to absorb into your skin a bit first before getting dressed (a few mins is sufficient). (*Whispering* And pssst! I used it on my breasts too! Just for extra re-assurance. My thing is, having to deal with deflated balloon breasts due to breastfeeding is bad enough, but I’d be damned if they’d be covered in stretch marks too! Hell to the NO!)

Give it a try. I mean, look, at the end of the day, it’s all about feeling pretty. And what woman (pregnant or non-pregnant) doesn’t want that? I’m not going to say that sweet almond oil is a life saver or claim that it works miracles for stretch marks. We all know when it comes to stretch marks, it’s mostly up to genetics and damn good luck. If nothing else, you’ll have super soft skin and trust me, you and your partner will loooooove that

I wish I’d had that. I prolly wouldn’t have the marks on my backside like I do. I used the cocoa butter.

Yeah, the cocoa butter thing never really worked for me. Not even for dark spots (then again, i’m so impatient that I probably didn’t give it a long enough try to begin with – LOL!)
Does it really good? My wife perhaps will need it lol
