Oscar Fashion: Hot Or Not?

Let’s face it, we don’t really watch the Academy Awards to see who wins. We watch to see what the stars are wearing. So here’s my take on some of the Oscar-night fashion:
Far be it for me to criticize Beyonce if she enjoys looking like a mermaid at every red carpet affair. But I wish the young and beautiful singer would step out of her comfort zone and find a stylist who can give her a more contemporary look. Sorry B, but this couch cover-reminiscent dress from your own House of Dereon collection was not hot.

Penelope Cruz, pictured with Best Actress favorite Kate Winslet, won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her funny and passionate portrayal in Woody Allen’s “Vicky Christina Barcelona.” And she did it in style. Cruz’s dress is a 60-year-old vintage couture gown.
Nominated for her touching portrayal of a conflicted and a protective mother in “Doubt,” Viola Davis wore an Oscar-ready gold gown.
“Slumdog Millionaire” co-star Freida Pinto looked like an Indian princess in her one-sleeved, beaded blue gown by John Galliano.
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” nominee Taraji P. Henson looked like Cinderella in her cream Roberto Cavalli gown and …read more

The Academy Awards are on tonight and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Hollywood starlet wearing one of the gorgeous gowns I saw during Fashion Week at Joanna Mastroianni’s showroom presentation.
Like several of her peers, the New York designer opted not to show in the Tents and the intimate showing gave the press a chance to get up close and personal with her Oscar-worthy Fall 2009 collection highlighted by cocktail dresses, gowns, and separates made with silk, embroidery, cashmere, fur, metallic fabric, organza, and patent leather.

Cute as a Button: Taraji P. Henson Lights Up the Red Carpet!

Taraji P. Henson looked like a real movie star at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. If you’ve been following Hot Mama Daily recently, you know I wasn’t a fan of the metallic, frayed mini dress she wore to the Golden Globe Awards (click here to read my post about the outfit).
So this form-fitting, Marilyn Monroe reminiscent white halter gown is a big improvement. She’s becoming quite the red carpet head-turner, and I can’t wait to see what Taraji — who received a Best Supporting Actress nod for her role in the poignant “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” – wears to The Academy …read more
Hot Mama of the Week: Penelope Cruz

Whether she’s dressed like a tomboy or glamour girl, actress Penelope Cruz is simply stunning. Need proof? Just look at these Top Model-worthy photos from an ad campaign for the Spanish-based clothing boutique Mango. Penelope is modeling fashions from the line she and her sister Monica designed for Mango, which opened its first New York City outpost last year. The clothes are super stylish and the prices are reasonable.
Although she dabbles in fashion, Penelope is of course best known for acting. I recently saw Woody Allen’s funny, passionate, and neurotic “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” and Penelope more than deserves her Best …read more

After winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture, “Slumdog Millionaire” is a shoo-in to win an Academy Award. I haven’t seen the film yet but both my Mom and husband give it a thumbs up, and I plan to check it out this weekend. Yet I’m already impressed by the film’s lovely female lead, newcomer Freida Pinto.
The 24-year-old actress got her start as a model with Elite Model Management in Mumbai before being discovered by “Slumdog” director Danny Boyle. And if her recent press and red carpet appearances are any indication, Freida still has quite a flair for …read more
