Before the official start of Mercedes Benz-Fashion Week (today through September 17), I was invited to an exclusive blogger preview of Rachel Roy’s Rachel line for Macy’s. As I sipped white wine and perused the racks of Roy’s Soho Pop-Up shop, many pretty things caught my eye. Snakeskin booties. Studded handbags. Vibrant patterns on tunics, t-shirts, and dresses. Faux leather leggings. And a pair of “Peace” gold hoop earrings ($40) and a black wrap sweater ($99) I would love to add to my fall wardrobe.
The highlight of the evening, however, was when Ms. Roy walked in. The designer is even more stunning …read more

Back in the day, “Melrose Place” was my favorite show. I loved the drama, which ran from 1992 to 1999 on Fox, so much that I still remember the final episode party my friend Rachel threw at her Brooklyn pad. So needless to say, I was psyched when I heard the scandalous show had been revamped for a new generation.
I watched the series premiere last night on the CW, however, and have mixed feelings. Although the new cast is almost as attractive as the original cast, the character development is weak so far. In fact, two …read more

Office parties are tricky. You want to let loose with your coworkers, yet you must be careful not to dance on the bar top or reveal your feelings to that office crush after a few rounds of liquid courage. Choosing the right outfit for an office soiree is also a head-scratcher. You want to look festive, but not overdressed. Feminine, but not too sexy. And trendy, but not like you’re going to the club.
Here are 5 options selected from Banana Republic that will keep you dressed for success at your next office party:
1) You can’t go wrong in a little …read more
Rihanna in Leather Leggings: Hot or Not?

I’m all for taking fashion risks. Obviously, Rihanna is too. The pop siren’s wardrobe hits and misses are covered so often here on Hot Mama Daily that the blog should be renamed Rihanna Daily. Honestly, it’s not because I’m such a huge fan of her music; it’s because she’s the only pretty young thing in the spotlight who seems to be having fun with fashion.
That said, not all of the Caribbean queen’s clothes are choice picks. For instance, what do you make this getup? Is Rihanna trying too hard to play the rocker girl (or working girl depending on what …read more
Hot Fall Trends From Fashion Week

While I was home nursing a cold, it looks like I missed some great Fall fashion at Bryant Park. Charlotte Ronson (sister of DJ and Lindsay Lohan paramour Samantha Ronson) debuted her collection on Friday afternoon, and I’m feeling the Pat Benatar-esque rocker girl look (top photo) — the black, embellished cut-out top, black leather pants, and fly booties.
In the second photo, I’m loving the ’80s new wave vibe of the green/gray belted jumpsuit with wide shoulders and lace-up military style boots. These will also be hot looks off the runway.
I also appreciate that most designers I’ve seen are making a concerted …read more
Hot Mama Daily Finds More Grammy Fashion Faux Pas’

Estelle won a Grammy for “American Boy,” her catchy collaboration with hip-hop honcho Kanye West. Unfortunately, that’s where her winning streak ended on Grammy night. The Brit singer looks like Judy Jetson in this space age, silver getup. Worn with another outfit, perhaps the metallic, peep toe booties would have worked. But as is, this ensemble is just wrong.
R&B siren Keyshia Cole is wearing a sheer tunic, and see-through clothing is one of the spring’s hottest trends. Just because it’s a trend, however, doesn’t make it attractive. No one wants to see your underwear through your dress, so I’d …read more
