Before the official start of Mercedes Benz-Fashion Week (today through September 17), I was invited to an exclusive blogger preview of Rachel Roy’s Rachel line for Macy’s. As I sipped white wine and perused the racks of Roy’s Soho Pop-Up shop, many pretty things caught my eye. Snakeskin booties. Studded handbags. Vibrant patterns on tunics, t-shirts, and dresses. Faux leather leggings. And a pair of “Peace” gold hoop earrings ($40) and a black wrap sweater ($99) I would love to add to my fall wardrobe.

We’re all Hot Mamas here, right? Yet, there’s a thin line between dressing sexy and looking like you belong on a street corner.
Here are 5 tips on how to look hot without looking sleazy:
1) She’s Got Leggings: This trend continues to have….legs. I must admit that black leggings look good paired with long tunics and worn under billowy skirts. But I can’t quite get used to many of you ladies wearing leggings (and only leggings) with short tops. Even worse, some have mistaken opaque tights or regular pantyhose for leggings. Not a good look.

Steal Leona Lewis’ Casual Chic Look

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of Grammy nominee Leona Lewis’ voice. It’s a pretty voice (”Bleeding Love” was a catchy song) and the natural beauty has all of the makings of a star, yet unlike vintage Whitney and Mariah, I’m just not feeling “The X Factor.” What I am feeling, however, is Leona’s flair for fashion. The Brit sure knows how to pull a casual yet chic outfit together.
