Janet Jackson Takes in Milan Fashion Week

While I’m still trying to recover from New York City’s Mercedes Benz-Fashion Week, fashionistas and style casters have already flocked to Italy for Milan Fashion Week. Janet Jackson is among the superstars in Milan to see the stellar shows.
In this photo, Janet was seated in the front row for the Versace show on Friday, September 25. According to the U.K. Telegraph, the Versace show “brought sexy back” with a spring/summer 2010 collection accented by fluorescent colors, psychedelic prints, leather, chain-mail, cleavage and corsets.
After the tragic loss of her brother, Michael, and the prolonged media coverage of his death, it’s nice …read more
Celebs Were Back in Black at Fashion Week

It appears I’m in good company when it comes to wearing lots of black this year. I call it recession chic, but the truth is that black has always been the color of choice for dressy occasions.
Here are photos of several celebrities who wore black during Mercedes Benz-Fashion Week in New York City. Tell me who you think looks Hot or Not?
Angela Simmons has become quite the fashion plate. Her ruffled little black dress is accented by red lips, a wide black belt , bangles, and purple pumps. My verdict: Hot!

The Best of Fashion Week Beauty Swag, Pt. 2

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week came to a close yesterday and I’m still trying to recover. Despite being deprived of my usual beauty rest, the frenzied event is ultimately worth all the hustle and flow and something I look forward to twice a year.
Earlier this week, I told you about some of the great swag I picked up (freebies alone make Fashion Week worthwhile). And here’s the low-down on a couple more high-end beauty products I was treated to:
Morrocanoil Oil Treatment for All Hair Types, $41: I’ve wanted to try this hair treatment since I read about it Lucky Magazine (Hayden Panettiere swears by it). Now I’ve had …read more
Gottex and Rosa Cha Swimsuits Sizzle!

What would Mercedes Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week be without swimsuits. Of course, not any ole’ swim wear will do. We’re talking designer bathing suits so pretty you’ll want to sashay on the beach or sit pretty pool side so everyone gets a good gander.
With a bevy of high-waist bikinis and neon one-piece suits with woven details, Rosa Cha’s spring collection blended the old with the new — imagine if you will a cross between Hollywood pinup girl and Valley girl. The brand’s new creative director, extraordinary Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch, was also inspired by lingerie.
“These items were designed to …read more
Hot or Not? Solange is Fit to Be Tied

I have to give it to her. Solange Knowles is nothing if not daring. Whereas Beyonce likes to play glamour girl, Solange isn’t afraid to experiment with quirky fashion and daring hair styles. Take this rope jacket (picture below) she wore to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for instance. From a distance, the jacket has a nice silhouette and is a fun way to spice up her black skinny jeans and strappy heels.
Up close, however, there are so many ropes on this jacket Solange sort of looks like she should be taking the Boy Scout slip-knot test or wo-manning a ship.

Arise Wakes Up Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

The This Day/Arise Promise of Africa Collective Spring/Summer 2010 show and I got off to a rocky start. A sea of fashionable but testy ladies and gents crowded the tents at Bryant Park — many with red and white invitations in hand. I was invited to the show, but never received a formal paper invitation. Praying I had an actual seat assignment, I approached a publicist with a clip board. She found my name. Alas, I was in standing room (again).
It had been a long, rainy day. I’d already stood for the Twinkle by Wenlan show (a fresh, feminine collection …read more
Get Ready for Fashion’s Night Out!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is September 10-17 and I’ll be blogging from the Bryant Park Tents about all the hot Spring 2010 fashion shows and related events I attend. Although Fashion Week is typically an exclusive affair for invited guests, members of the press, and retail buyers, thanks to the Vogue-sponsored Fashion’s Night Out, this season every fashionista in New York City can get in on the swag action.
The September 10 event is an effort to boost sagging retail sales, during which over 700 retailers throughout New York City (and in 13 other fashion capitals including Brazil, Japan and Italy) will stay …read more
Project Runway is Back Next Week…Finally!

I can’t remember how long its been since the last season of “Project Runway” aired. What I do remember is that under an even stricter shroud of secrecy than usual, the three Season 6 finalists of the promising designer show debuted their collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February, months before their season has aired.
That’s a first. So is the excellent reality show’s move from Bravo to Lifetime, and a location change from New York City to Los Angeles. Will it be as good? I hope so and will be glued to the flat screen in my hotel room in …read more
Glamour Rules at Terexov’s Show

Lighten up, it’s just fashion. That’s what I tell myself as I’m waiting in yet another “standing room” line for yet another show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Notice the enthusiasm shift since I posted on Day 1.
It’s a good thing the Tents are stocked with free Smart Water to keep you hydrated. ”We’re like a herd of sheep,” I overhead one woman tell her friend and nodded in agreement.
This time I was in a disorderly queue for the Terexov presentation, which had a city sophisticate glamour feel to it. Highlights included an art deco cityscape print silk dress …read more
