Who Will Be the Next Oprah?

I’m still trying to get over the news that Oprah Winfrey will end her reign as daytime talk show queen in 2011 to focus on her forthcoming cable network. Well, not really. I mean, I’ll miss the big O. She’s an inspiration to African-American women in particular. But except for must-see episodes like her interview with Whitney Houston, I haven’t regularly watched “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in years.
And with Oprah ready to take a bow at the end of her 25th season, who will be able to fill her designer shoes?

Disney’s First African-American Princess

Every American girl grew up watching Disney fairy tales. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella became our images of what a princess looks like. In 1992, Disney moved in a more racially inclusive direction with Arabian Princess Jasmine from “Aladdin.” And finally, with “The Princess and the Frog,” Disney has introduced its first African-American princess.
Princess Tiana is voiced by adorable actress Anika Noni Rose. I’m so proud of the “Dreamgirls” and Broadway star and can’t wait to see her animated portrayal of the New Orleans princess. The cast is rounded out by Tiana’s matriarchs, voiced by Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer …read more
When Does Big and Beautiful = Overweight?

I wrestle with this question. African-American and Latina women tend to have a healthier body image than women of other races. Although I don’t believe you have to be stick thin or weight obsessed to be beautiful, I do believe in being healthy. Your body mass index (BMI) can help determine your healthy weight range based on your height. But even without a scale, we know when we’re in shape and when we’re not.
Several stars of the Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry-produced “Precious” are zaftig. The movie hits theaters November 6th, and is based on the brilliantly brazen novel “Push” …read more
Hot or Not? Oprah Plays Cowgirl

Home, home on the range. Where the deer and the wealthiest woman in America play. Earlier this week, Oprah was deep in the heart of the State Fair of Texas in Dallas to tape segments for her show. So she dressed the part in a dark brown cowboy hat, ruffled blouse, mustard yellow cardigan, blue jeans, and boots.
But in this photo with country singer Martina McBride, does Oprah look less like a Big Texan and more like Big Bird? (By the way, I love the gold microphone.)
What do you think? Is Oprah’s cowgirl ensemble Hot or Not?

Paula Patton in Cannes with Lenny Kravitz?

Is there something Paula Patton wants to tell R&B crooner hubby Robin Thicke? The lovely actress looks awful cozy with rock star Lenny Kravitz in Cannes…but there I go starting Hollywood rumors again, when in fact Robin has nothing to worry about.
Pretty Paula and ladies-man Lenny were merely posing for photos at the red carpet premiere of ”Precious,” the powerful Oparah Winfrey and Tyler Perry-backed film in which they costar with Mariah Carey and Mo’Nique (watch the riveting You Tube trailer below).
Ah, but what a pretty pair.

Oprah’s Weight Loss Woes

(Oprah today)
By now we’ve all heard that Oprah’s weight has ballooned from a healthy 160 lbs to a hefty 200 lbs. The talk show titan (no pun intended) says she’s “mad at herself” for “falling off the wagon.”
I agree that an immediate slim down is in order. But if you want my opinion (not that anyone asked), I think O looks A-okay as a healthy, full-figured gal. The 54-year-old has been a yo-yo dieter for decades and obviously prefers Tasty Kakes to tofu (who doesn’t?). So it’s about time she embraced her curves.
Of course, being overweight can contribute to diabetes …read more
