Hot or Too Hot? Serena Williams’ ESPN Cover

I’m a Serena Williams fan. She has a healthy body image and is an inspiration to young women of color (and all women). However, I’m not sure how I feel about her racy-but-tasteful cover for ESPN magazine’s”Body Issue.” On one hand, I say if you got it, why not flaunt it? But on the other hand, does the nude cover tarnish her image as a role model (her recent profanity-peppered tirade on the court hasn’t helped either)?
There’s also some controversy as to whether Serena is telling the truth about her weight. Officially Serena lists her weight as 150 lbs. [she’s …read more

Whether you’re spending these last days of summer close to home, on the beach, or on the road, more than likely you will need something to entertain yourself over the long Labor Day weekend.
Here are a few hot picks that should inspire you, make you laugh, and maybe even dance:

Hot or Not? Serena Williams’ Ballroom Gown

She’s an ace on the tennis court, but try as she might, I don’t see any Best Dressed awards in Serena Williams’ future. Here, Serena graces the red carpet at the ESPY awards in a green chiffon gown that looks more suitable for doing the Viennese waltz on “Dancing with the Stars” than it does for taking paparazzi shots.
Although it’s a nice gown, I think it’s too formal for this sports achievement awards show. And is anyone else distracted by Serena’s extremely muscular arms?
What do you think? Does Serena look Hot or Not?

Venus Williams’ Winning Wimbledon Style

Who needs fireworks? Venus Williams faces off against her ‘lil sister in the Wimbledon finals on July 4. Breakfast at Wimbledon is a long standing TV tradition for me, so this morning I’ll be watching the sibling tennis rivals try to out-volley and out-ace each other on the tennis court.
As much as I love Serena, I’m cheering for Venus. The more reserved Williams sister is a five-time Wimbledon champ and I’m proud of her transformation from a cute ’round the way girl into a lovely fashionista.

Serena Williams’ Home Shopping Network Line

Who knew Serena Williams was the latest celebrity to shill for the Home Shopping Network? I went through a HSN phase in college (fascination with lobster claw clasps and late-night boredom are to blame) and haven’t tuned in since.
Now that I’ve discovered “Serena Williams Signature Statement” collection, however, the shopping network is back on my radar.
Although Serena’s signature line of jewelry, accessories, and some clothing — which launched in late April — is a bit pricey for my thrifty taste, the tennis pro has a decent eye for fashion. After browsing the HSN website, here are my choice “Signature Statement” …read more
Real Women Have Curves: If Jessica Simpson is Fat Then What Are We?

I know what you’re thinking. Why is Hot Mama Daily blogging about Jessica Simpson? No, Jess does not fit the Hot Mama demo (you may have noticed she’s not a woman of color). But the recent debate over the blonde bombshell’s weight gain is a topic that many women of color, particularly African-American and Hispanic women can relate to. We generally have healthier body images, which is a good thing since we also tend to have more curves. However, the media and society at large (no pun intended) aren’t always on our side.
(Tennis superstar Serena Williams is extremely comfortable in her …read more
