Hot or Not? Michelle Obama Buckles Up

The First Lady has been flying under the Hot Mama Daily fashion radar. But lately I’ve noticed that Mrs. Obama has been flaunting a lot of fashionable belts during recent public appearances. Not only does she like to buckle up; the trendsetter fancies wearing wide leather belts high above her waist line.
I give Michelle props for daring to be different. But I’m not a fan of wearing a belt just for show over an overcoat. It’s impractical. And the belt’s positioning under her breast bone looks downright uncomfortable. However, I give her kudos on the coat’s teal color and the …read more
Hot or Not? Taraji Henson’s Hair Extensions

While watching the fiasco that was Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s two-hour wedding special on E!, I couldn’t help but wonder how a man who was dating and reportedly proposed to actress Taraji P. Henson earlier this year, rebounded so quickly and married Khloe, whom he had only known for a few weeks?
Call me cynical, but I don’t believe in popping the question at first sight. And no offense Khloe, but Taraji is a real Hot Mama! Well, she is most of the time. In these photos, the Academy Award nominee flaunts her enviable curves and shows off her new …read more
Babette Epaulette Rockin’ Shoulder Jewelry

One of the best things about writing Hot Mama Daily is all of the cool fashionistas and designers I have a chance to meet, like Seville Michelle Anastos. The New Yorker recently launched her own shoulder jewelry called babette epaulette.
Find out more about the crafty stylist:
Hot Mama Daily: How long have you been making the shoulder jewelry?
Seville: I came up with the concept in July 2009 and by October 2009 I designed the full line.
HMD: What’s your inspiration for starting the jewelry line?
Seville: I was working with a pop star, Nelly Furtado, and imagined all of the beautiful things I would …read more
Hot or Not? Mary J Blige’s Frumpy Frock

Mary J. Blige is usually styled to a tee on the red carpet. So it’s odd to see the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul in this blah, black and white dress at the movie premiere for “Precious.” Did Mary’s stylist take the day off?
The long dress would be cute for a less formal event, but it hides Mary’s svelte physique and as most empire waist dresses do, makes her look like she has a bun in the oven.
But maybe I’m being too harsh? Do you think Mary J. looks Hot or Not?

Hot Hollywood Couples on the Red Carpet

In these pre-Oscar and Grammy months, there’s been a lack of fabulous fashion to critique. So I jumped at the chance to share photos of a few of Hollywood’s cutest couples at recent red carpet events.
Tell me which couples you think are Hot and which are just lukewarm?
I still don’t get Mariah Carey with Nick Cannon. And it’s not because he’s younger; it’s because he seems so immature. She’s a superstar glamazon and he’s…well, he’s Nick Cannon. But I have to admit Mariah seems truly in love and looks great in this body-hugging black gown at the premiere of …read more
3 Scariest Hot Mama Daily Fashion Moments

Happy Halloween! In celebration of the spooky holiday, here are a few of my favorite, scary celebrity fashion moments. Are they Tricks or Treats? You be the judge:
I absolutely love Grace Jones. She is a bold, beautiful avant garde fashion muse and music icon. But I can see how some folks would be more than a little scared of the 60-year-old glamazon.
Lil’ Kim has taken her tribute to Michael Jackson a little too far. I can’t decide what’s scarier — her botched plastic surgery, crazy blue contacts, or this horrid, lime green stripper dress.
This mix-and-match outfit would be passable if …read more
Hot or Not? Keri Hilson’s Overexposure
October 30, 2009 by Tracy Hopkins

It’s been a while since I’ve written a Hot or Not? post. And unfortunately (for her) R&B singer Keri Hilson is an easy target. Here Hilson is wearing what looks like a jumpsuit left over from Jackie Collins’ 1985 “Hollywood Wives” mini-series. And in a curious fashion twist, Hilson decided to vamp up her vintage jumpsuit by unzipping it way down and nearly exposing her breasts.
She’s a pretty girl, but she sort of looks like a naughty Elvis impersonator in this outfit. But perhaps Keri’s look is edgy and I just don’t get it. I doubt it. Keri wore this …read more
Q&A with Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Sheree

Sheree Whitfield is one of the sexy, sassy “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” I’m not ashamed to admit the Bravo show is must see TV in my Brooklyn abode. So I was thrilled to interview the mother of three prior to the two-part second season reunion special, which she calls “a shocker.”
This season, Sheree’s near fisticuffs with a hot-tempered party planner spawned the catch phrase “Who’s Gonna Check Me Boo?” and she debuted her She by Sheree clothing line. The designer sites Dolce & Gabbana as her style icons, admits she’s not “bald-headed” but likes to rock clip-in hair pieces, and …read more
When Does Big and Beautiful = Overweight?
October 25, 2009 by Tracy Hopkins
Filed under Celebrity Style, Entertainment, Women's Health
I wrestle with this question. African-American and Latina women tend to have a healthier body image than women of other races. Although I don’t believe you have to be stick thin or weight obsessed to be beautiful, I do believe in being healthy. Your body mass index (BMI) can help determine your healthy weight range based on your height. But even without a scale, we know when we’re in shape and when we’re not.
Several stars of the Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry-produced “Precious” are zaftig. The movie hits theaters November 6th, and is based on the brilliantly brazen novel “Push” …read more
Princess Diana Exhibit, a Fitting Tribute

When I was 11-years-old, my Mom and I woke up early to watch Diana Spencer marry Charles, Prince of Wales. Like millions of other young girls glued to the tele, I was in awe of the extravagant spectacle. It was 1981 and opulence was en vogue. And I couldn’t wait to see her wedding dress. With a 25-ft. train, oh what a dress it was!
All of the sentimentality I had for Diana’s wedding day and the sorrow I felt for her untimely death in 1997 came flooding back to me during my visit to “Diana: A Celebration” at Philadelphia’s National Constitution …read more
