M.I.A. has a quirky sense of style.

Alternative hip-hop/dance artist M.I.A. was among the celebs invited to a Hollywood preview of the Jimmy Choo for H&M garb.  The Sri Lankan singer has never been afraid to express herself through fashion as boldly as she does in her kick ass music.  The shark tunic she’s wearing in these photos is no exception.

I like it that M.I.A. takes risks and isn’t afraid to be a rock star.  The shark shirt definitely stands out and I like the black leather pants and boots.  So I’m going to take a risk too; I think she looks Hot (in a cool alt rock gal way).

Keri Hilson, what a boob.

She’s a pretty girl, but she sort of looks like a naughty Elvis impersonator in this outfit. But perhaps Keri’s look is edgy and I just don’t get it.  I doubt it. Keri wore this getup to a post MTV Awards-party for Lady Gaga, who personifies edgy and whose daring style I absolutely adore.

Allison Iraheta from American Idol.

Here, Allison is posing on the red carpet for MTV’s Los Premios 2009 Awards in Los Angeles, in what looks like a shiny, silver prom dress.  The bubble dress isn’t the best (the bow, and did I mention that it’s super shiny), but if her hair weren’t a complete bird’s nest, Allison’s look might be more youthful and salvageable.

Allison Iraheta is a shiny, happy person.

The strappy black shoes and purse also clash with the silver dress and her bright red hair.

But maybe I’m just hating on Iraheta’s personal style.  Do you think she looks Hot or Not?

Victoria Rowell is the new Obama girl.

At the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards, however, Victoria was a pretty woman wearing the wrong dress. Um, words can barely describe just how wrong this dress plastered with the face of the 44th president of the United States is. I’m also a Barack Obama supporter, but I can safely say that I would never wear this dress to a formal, red carpet affair.  And maybe not even to clean my apartment.

Hail to the chief!

If this were the MTV Awards, maybe a neo-soul singer like Erykah Badu or India.Irie could rock this daring African print. But on Victoria, the Obama dress looks like a patriotic hot mess.

This of course is my not so humble opinion.  What do you think? Does Victoria Rowell look Hot or Not?

Mel B leaves little to the imagination.

Yet, as I touched on last week, there’s a thin line between dressing hot and looking sleazy.  And dear Melanie is, um, leaning more towards the latter. Black leather leggings and a sparkly red bustier?  Well, I suppose she wasn’t called a Spice Girl for nothing.  

But did she really think this ensemble was appropriate to wear out in public, let alone to an event where she’d be photographed?  Some outfits are strictly for your lovers’ eyes only; not the entire world.

Jordin Sparks

Okay, now it’s time for the tough love portion of this post.  Jordin’s sense of style often leaves something to be desired.

Take this blue satin dress she wore to the Fox Teen Choice Awards for instance. Although the cut of the dress is pretty — particularly the “V” opening enhancing her decolletage — the dress is in need of a good steam.  The dress also looks like its stretched to the max.  And Jordin, who appeared to have slimmed down earlier this year, might consider going up a dress size.

And amidst a sea of celebs in lovely frocks, the otherwise stunning Roy’s choice of shredded denim for a red carpet event was particularly curious. If she wanted to stand out, mission accomplished.

I’m not sure if Roy “designed” her jeans, but she could have easily picked something fabulous from one of her collections.  This sleeveless black dress with a sheer mesh back panel would have made a dramatic fashion statement.

Penelope Cruz in a garish red suit.

The suit too closely matches the red carpet and in general the look is just off.  Why the rolled up pants?  Why didn’t she at least wear a black shirt to break up the color scheme?

Perhaps there is a reasonable explanation for Ms. Cruz’s fashion faux pas. According to the Brit tabloid, The Sun, her luggage was misplaced  and her only option was the suit, which was stowed in her carry-on. Personally, I would have made a mad dash for Harrods.
