Macy Gray and Mya on Dancing with the Stars

“Dancing with the Stars” returns on September 21 with a new crop of B and C-list celebs ready to mambo, cha-cha, and waltz their way into the hearts of the judges and viewing audience. Among this season’s sixteen “stars” are quirky, Grammy-winner Macy Gray and pretty R&B starlet Mya.
I have high hopes for Mya, a fellow Maryland native who studied tap dance with Savion Glover, performed in the Oscar-winning film adaptation of the musical “Chicago,” and sang with Christina Aguilera and Pink and strutted her stuff in the video for the remake of “Lady Marmalade.”
Macy, on the other hand, is …read more
3 Things I Want Right Now!

This weekend I’ve been in lounge mode. My lack of activity hasn’t totally been by choice, but when it’s that time of the month sometimes the best thing you can do is surrender to the couch. And all of this chill time has me thinking about things I need to kick my respite up a notch.
Here are three things I want right now:
This soft and simple Tee-jama set has a short sleeve tee, cotton sateen pants, and is the kind of comfy sleep wear I love to stretch out and watch a Lifetime movie marathon in.
Soaking in a warm, aromatherapy …read more
Hot Pick: Real Housewives of Atlanta

I’m a huge fan of the Bravo “Real Housewives” franchise. Although the back-biting New York and table-flipping New Jersey editions will be hard to top, I bet my favorite ladies — “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” — are up for the challenge. If the Bravo teasers are any indication, the “Peachtree state” divas are back with a vengeance.
Lips bustin’/lashes poppin’NeNe is keepin’ it real as usual, and apparently the love fest between bimbo, aspiring country singer Kim and snobby, aspiring fashion designer Sheree is kaput.
Plus, there’s a new “housewife” in town; Grammy-winning songwriter Kandi Burruss formerly of the R&B girl …read more
My Guilty Pleasure, The Wendy Williams Show
July 12, 2009 by Tracy Hopkins

Without outrageous radio personality Wendy Williams, my work day afternoons would be a whole lot duller. I’ve been listening to the gossip girl since she returned to the New York City airwaves on WBLS in 2001, and I was among the fans who tuned in last summer during the trial sneak peak of her TV gab fest, “The Wendy Williams Show.”
Well, starting Monday, July 13 Wendy’s back on the tele, and this time I hope she’ll be around as long as Oprah…or at least as long as Tyra’s talk show.
Check Wendy’s website for info on when the show airs …read more
Lil’ Kim Spices Up “Dancing with the Stars”

Will you be watching Lil’ Kim flaunt her ballroom dance moves on tonight’s two-hour season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars“? I certainly will. In case you haven’t noticed, I watch a lot of television and “Dancing” is another one of my must-see TV guilty pleasures.
The naughty rapper, former prison inmate, and poster child for bad plastic surgery, however, seems like an unlikely casting choice for the series which has featured less scandalous women of color including singer Toni Braxton, ex-Spice Girl Mel B, and actress Vivica A. Fox. Despite Kim’s checkered past, I hope the petite dynamo excels in …read more

Hot Mama’s Top 5 Hot Messes of 2008

I like to keep things lighthearted here at Hot Mama Daily and all of the women who made this list should know they’re still loved. Everyone has a hot mess moment or two — theirs just happened while most of us were watching:
1) Janet Jackson cancels many of her “Rock Wit U” tour dates amidst rumors that she’s pregnant. There’s also speculation that poor tickets sales prompted the cancellations. Personally, I think she finally got a good glimpse of her not-ready-for-tour-time physique in that weird body suit and decided the show must not go on. The …read more
The Top 5 Hot Mama Moments of 2008
December 21, 2008 by Tracy Hopkins

Overall, 2008 was a good year. I had my dream wedding and didn’t spend a fortune (read my budget bride story for the New York Daily News), honeymooned in the Bahamas, and visited Italy, Bermuda, and Las Vegas (travel always makes me happy). Personal highlights aside, 2008 was also a great year for style and pop culture. Here, I recap my favorite Hot Mama moments:
1) Michelle Obama is America’s first African-American first lady! It’s almost surreal that Michelle and her beautiful daughters — along with a bright guy named Barack you may have heard of — have forever changed the …read more
