Mya will compete on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars"

I have high hopes for Mya, a fellow Maryland native who studied tap dance with Savion Glover, performed in the Oscar-winning film adaptation of the musical “Chicago,” and sang with Christina Aguilera and Pink and strutted her stuff in the video for the remake of “Lady Marmalade.”

Macy, on the other hand, is a wild card.  The comical singer is also an underrated actress (she had a small but memorable part in “Training Day” with Denzel). But does she think she can dance? I suppose former “Fly Girl” Carrie Anne Inaba, elder statesman Len Goodman, and crazy man Bruno Tonioli will be the judge of that.

The naughty rapper, former prison inmate, and poster child for bad plastic surgery, however, seems like an unlikely casting choice for the series which has featured less scandalous women of color including singer Toni Braxton, ex-Spice Girl Mel B, and actress Vivica A. Fox.  Despite Kim’s checkered past, I hope the petite dynamo excels in the competition and shows everyone there’s more to her than her Black Barbie facade.

1) Janet Jackson cancels many of her “Rock Wit U” tour dates amidst rumors that she’s pregnant. There’s also speculation that poor tickets sales prompted the cancellations. Personally, I think she finally got a good glimpse of her not-ready-for-tour-time physique in that weird body suit and decided the show must not go on. The silly faux hawk didn’t help.

2) Danity Kane breaks up. Well, sort of. I’m a huge fan of “Making the Band,” and the girl group’s “Damaged” was the jam of the year.

So now that Diddy has kicked Aubrey and D. Woods to the curb, what will become of the pop/R&B stars? Rumor has it that Dawn will go solo and Diddy’s pretty but talent-less girlfriend Cassie will become DK’s “lead singer.” Watch this You Tube clip from a brokenhearted fan that sums up the whole hot mess.

3) Jennifer Lopez claims an ankle injury forced her to abruptly cancel her coveted guest judge spot on the Season Finale of “Project Runway.” That’s funny, all La Lopez had to do was sit in a chair and critique fashion. Just two days later, however, her foot miraculously healed and she completed a triathalon in Los Angeles. J. Lo is a real Hot Mama, but sometimes she’s such a diva.

4) Tyra Banks is the most likeable ego-maniac on TV. She has dual, self-promoting platforms with “Top Model” and the “Tyra Banks Show.” This clip from the latter where she’s taking a bubble bath and speaking in a strange baby voice about how she loves supermodel Beverly Johnson so much she has a framed picture of herself and Johnson above her bath tub — while not as full-on crazy as her “Kiss my fat a**” moment — clearly warrants her inclusion on this list.

5) Drum roll please…And the Hot Mama Hot Mess Award of the Year goes to Sherri Shepherd from “The View.” Among Sherri’s many head-scratching moments (she admitted she’d had more abortions than she could count) was when she thought the 11 Pipers Piping in “The 12 Days of Christmas” were plumbers. Oh, Sherri.

1) Michelle Obama is America’s first African-American first lady! It’s almost surreal that Michelle and her beautiful daughters — along with a bright guy named Barack you may have heard of — have forever changed the First Family portrait. Michelle is a study in elegance, and despite a few fashion faux pas, has impeccable taste.

2) Rihanna emerged as major beauty and style trend-setter. She took risks with her hip hair styles and youthful flair for fashion, and most of the time they paid off. The Barbados-beauty also continues to be a pop and hip-hop darling — her “Disturbia” and “Take a Bow” were two of the year’s hottest singles.

3) Wendy Williams’s irreverent radio show brightens my otherwise ho-hum 9-5 grind. So I was in DVR heaven when a six-week preview of the New York City shock jock’s gossip girl talk show, “The Wendy Williams Show” debuted over the summer. The show, along with Wendy’s big wigs and glamazon wardrobe, returns in syndication in summer 2009. For those hot mamas out there familiar with Wendy, How you doin’? Watch this clip of her near on-air cat fight with reality TV witch Omarosa.

4) Beyonce’s concept album, “I Am…Sasha Fierce” was a dud. But her dip-it-low to one side with only one knee bent dance move in the video for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It),” is one of the year’s most memorable moments.   And SNL’s parody of the sexy video featuring Justin Timberlake is hilarious.  Click on this link to see the skit.

5) The Real Housewives of Atlanta was one of my fave reality TV shows of the year.  I especially like the sassy Nene and her catch phrase, Lips bussin’, lashes poppin’. and can’t wait for the second drama-filled season on Bravo.   Click on this link to see a clip from the housewives’ chilly reunion.
