Turtlenecks: Can’t Live Without ‘Em

jlo_hoops.jpg

I love this picture of Jennifer Lopez. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I’ve been raggin’ on her lately with her maternity and tour fashion faux pas’, but there was a time when this woman could do no wrong (fashion-wise, I ain’t talking husbands or ex-boyfriends here…) I don’t know how old this picture is, but the style in it is timeless. Sort of reminds me of an Audrey Hepburn-type of look. It’s classic. You have the simple black/kohl eyeliner. Nude lipgloss, some mascara and that’s it. Thick headband and some “gorge” hoop earrings. Large hoops preferably.

The picture got me to thinking: it’s getting nippy in my part of town, and with the nippy weather out come the boots and fall gear. A fall/winter wardrobe must have is the basic turtleneck (or ‘rollnecks’ as they call them in the UK :)

They come in all colors, styles, shapes and of course, price tags. Let’s take a look at some, shall we?

Whenever I wear a turtleneck, I just feel…*thinks of the right word*…sophisticated. The great thing is, it doesn’t even matter what you pair it with. It always looks great: jeans, trousers, skirt, whatever it is, it works. Period.

Let’s take it a step further. Let’s add the turtleneck knit dress:

And my personal favorite is this one below from Forever 21 (are you surprised?). This dress is PERFECT for for work and after-work. At work, you can throw on a cardigan/wrap/blazer to cover your back and keep it work appropriate.  But after work you take the outerwear off, and –BAM!– you’re literally brining sexy, back! (Get it? Tee hee! Okay, okay, no more corny jokes…)

Loves it! Picture this: You just dropped the kids off to school, and now you’re sitting in your fav café, sipping your latte/hot cocoa and looking fabu in your turtleneck dress while on your laptop your checking your favorite website (preferably Hot Mama Daily, of course *wink*) and eating your morning muffin. Your hair looks amazing, your manicure is oh-so-perfect, and you cross your legs to show off your new fall boots. Can you picture it!? Can you? Shoot, I totally can.

C’mon tell me:  Are you a turtleneck addict like I am?

Oh Gawd, I LOVE turtlenecks! Didn’t it seem like they kind of went away for a while? I mean the “sophisticated” ones. I am so thrilled they are back, and you’re right, they look perfect with anything.

Yoo-ha for fellow turtleneck addicts of the world!

P.S. I adore that J. Lo picture, too. Must. Emulate. This. Weekend. ;)

On me, they go with anything !

My all time favourite ” weekend ” outfit is a thin turtleneck under a cardigan or a crewneck or V-neck sweater with jeans :)

Did you know that Jackie Manning, a renowned turtleneck lover has published her memoirs? Everything you wanted to know about women and their unique relatonship with their turtlenecks and others reaction to them can be found in this slim 67 page volume. I read it in an afternoon and I could see myself in so many of the situations she found herself in – and all because she happened to be wearing a turtleneck at the time!
It is caleed ‘The TurtleneX-Files’ and can be viewed online at http://www.lulu.com – just type in ‘turtleneck’ in the search box on the home page. I really enjoyed it and I hope you do too if you are a turtlneck fan as I am!

    Love
