Makeup Minute How To: Clean Your Brushes

Celebrity makeup artist and Vanitymark founder Brett Freedman is one of my fave experts to tap into here at Makeup Minute – I’ve incorporated his genius here and here in the past. Today, he shared a fab how-to for a proper brush cleansing (which I often procrastinate on…for the record, you should wash your brushes about once a week). To make a clean sweep, you need the following tools:
towel
sink and counter space
Dr. Bronner’s Magic Pure Castile Liquid Soap
First, clean your sink so you have a fresh and clean surface to work with.
Next, squeeze the Dr. Bronner in a zig zag …read more
Why to Splurge: Nail Files

Nail files are one of those innocuous little beauty tools that you can pick up anywhere and at almost any budget. But Kiss nail guru Michele Pierno shared a few tips with me recently on why you should avoid cheapie nail files and go for a higher quality tool. Here’s what she has to say:
Grit quality – Cheaper quality files are made with fewer grains per square inch creating more “spaces” between each abrasive granule. Imagine running a file over a nail that “skips” between grains. This can cause tiny tears which will eventually weaken nails.
Rigidity – A …read more

I live and die for a sweet pink cheek color and Stila’s new Yumberry Crush Lip & Cheek Stain SERIOUSLY fits the bill. This easy-travel pen packs a powerful punch of pink stain with sheer pink pearl.
And what’s a Yumberry, you may be thinking? Well, dear readers, it’s a superfruit and it infuses this stain with potent antioxidants, fifty times stronger than Vitamin E and twenty times stronger than Vitamin C!
This stain can be used as a sheer blush or a lip tint, try building it for more opaque color and sheering it out (quickly, as stains do set in …read more
Get the Grammy Look: Katy Perry

After a recent trip to India, Katy Perry brought back a variety of bindis and together, with celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey, they used this as inspiration to create a “Bettie age, Indian princess look” for last night’s Grammy Awards.
To perfect her skin, Jake used Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation and to set the look, he dusted Guerlain Les Violettes Matte Touch Powder all over the face.
Jake then highlighted the apples of her cheeks with CORALista from Benefit.
Keeping with the exotic feel, Jake used a mixture of shimmery plums and golds on her eyes. “I was …read more
Makeup Bag Savior: Artistry Color Quad

Hey everyone! I’m reporting live from the Miss America pageant this weekend, as a guest of skincare and makeup sponsor Artistry. While I’m SO excited to be here now, yesterday’s journey here was marred with one major annoyance – my travel bag was “delayed” by a solid 8 hours thanks to the glaring incompetencies of US Air (is there a more terrible airline? I don’t think so.)
In it, of course, was all of my clothing for the weekend, my makeup bag, jewelry, shoes and more so I was forced to wear my travel wear to a really lovely dinner with …read more
Quadruple Duty Beauty: Stila

I’ve been beyond pressed for time lately, so it makes sense that I’ve been embracing multi-use products more and more. In an example of perfect timing, Stila’s new One Step Makeup arrived at my desk this week and I put it to work immediately.
Off my task list, I delegated: prime, conceal, provide a foundation and finish to Stila and this product really delivered. One Step Makeup is moderate to full coverage, so concealer becomes optional instead of required and the finish is perfectly polished. It’s a breakthrough formula, with natural mineral pigments, and it left my skin feeling balanced and …read more

Meet Uslu Airlines

I’m a huge fan of niche and foreign beauty brands and a few months ago, I became obsessed with trying out the cool German brand Uslu Airlines. It’s sold at one of my favorite stores in the world – Colette in Paris – but even for me (a total spendthrift!), the Euro prices were a little too much to swallow.
Thankfully, private online beauty destination Market for Drama has an amazing sale on Uslu Lipglosses and Mascara, kicking off tomorrow, January 25th.
Prices will be a staggering 52% off (glosses are normally 22 Euros), so mark your calendars now and sign up …read more
