Imju Fiberwig Mascara

imjufiberwigmascaraImju’s Fiberwig Mascara has to be the one product I was most looking forward to using. It promises dramatic length while separating and defining your lashes. It is the top selling mascara in Japan and supposed to give you false eyelash-like lashes.

What they say:

Engineered to create the perfect lashes with twice the amount of micro-fine interconnecting fibers, the instant drying formula creates a long lasting film coat around your natural lashes. Fiberwig imparts a perfect, smudge-proof maximum lash extension effect with a water-resistant formula that’s easy to remove with warm water, without risking damaging or losing your natural lashes. A jet-black fiber film coats the surface of each lash with long-lasting, clump-free, lash lengthening color that’s resistant to tears, sweat, and oil.

When I took the wand out of the tube I noticed that it was a thin formula and you could see the fibers on the wand. It looks like little hairs. This is a product where you have to apply it several times to see the desired results. Upon the first application, I didn’t really notice too much of a difference in my lashes beyond them being separated and individually coated with the mascara.

Application 2 showed more definition with a few of the fibers attaching to the ends of my own lashes. I applied the mascara 3 more times and with each application the fibers applied themself and then stuck in place with the mascara film. When the fibers are attached to your lashes they definitely look natural. The mascara doesn’t thicken giving you that Tammy Faye look; I was actually surprised that 5 applications of the mascara still yielded me thin natural looking lashes.

You definitely get that false eyelash effect and this mascara doesn’t smudge. Now if only there could be a fiber mascara to lengthen this way, curl your lashes and thicken them, it would be perfect.

I really like this mascara, but it did smudge a bit on me. The best one with fibers that I’ve tried is the Japanese Opera Mylash mascara. I get it from Sasa.com (Fiberwig is also about $10 cheaper on that site than on Sephora) and it separates and lengthens really well! It’s a breeze to remove too.

Only problem I have with this mascara is.. It removes the curl from my lashes after I curled them. (this is using the Shu Uemura curler) Once it dries the fibers do add length. I use it as a finishing mascara.

tmg–Thanks for the tip on the site that sells it cheaper!

anna–I didn’t use an eyelash curler when I used it, but I would think what you said is correct simply because of the way the fibers mesh together. Do you use another mascara to hold your curl and then apply the fiberwig?

Another reason why this mascara is top seller in Japan is that this mascara is meant for those who like to curl their lashes AFTER application without losing your lashes. it will not stick to your curler at all. it is best to curl your lashes when the mascara is completely dry, and I guarantee you, the lashes will be curled all day till you wash them off with warm water.

I have tried probably every mascara on this planet from cheapies to designer.. . and this is by far the most dramatic lengthening mascara I have come across. .you can actually see the fibers attach to the lash and get longer! only bad thing is that it doesnt really fatten up the lashes. .so what I do is use fiberwig. . then once it dries I coat my second favorite mascara (lancome hypnose lash) and it darkens them and add the extra kick to my lashes. . i have been asked complimented time after time about my lashes and now i have my friends hooked on it too! only bad thing. . hard to find sepphora sells out rather quickly! so get it while you can!

I just bought the fiberwig..never used it before. I am wondering from the above posts…can you use the eyelash curler before you apply the mascara? Or do you curl after you apply? I always find that my mascara gets clumpy and really unnatural looking when I curl after I put on mascara…thanks.

  7. Shannon says:

    Hi Sara,

From looking over the comments, it looks like you curl your lashes after applying the fiberwig. I think this is because the fibers attach to your lashes and would straighten out the curl. It is a very thin formula, so it might not clump once it is dry.

If you give it a try, let us know how you made out.

  8. Jaimie says:

    Hey,

I have hard time taking Fiberwig off my lashes. Any solution?

  9. Shannon says:

    Hi Jaimie,

I used Korres Jasmine makeup remover (see review here). You can also put your makeup remover on a round cotton pad, then fold it over your lashes and gently pinch the lashes and pull. The key is to be gentle so that you are not pulling your lashes out. You will see long fibres from the mascara–so don’t be worried that you pulled your lashes out.

i’ve been using this for a few mo’s…it’s OK. I like it for going to work use..but not going out use. For a more dramatic look, I like the Lancome Definicils. I am a mascara-trying-junkie - and that is by FAR my favorite favorite mascara!! It’s AMAZING!
Like I said before, the fiberwig is nice for a daytime-job-type use..but doesn’t really make a dramatic difference to your eyelashes.

This is really the best mascara I have ever bought. I love how it looks natural, its light, defines my lashes, makes them look longer, and does not smudge. Other mascara I have purchased smudges throughout the day. I’m glad I bought this mascara.

    Jaimie,

I simply use my fingers to slide the mascara off in the shower. It works really well.

  13. Hi! As a cosmetics lover, I’ve enjoyed reading all of your cosmetic reviews and discussions. I am especially interested in the rave reviews that Imju Fiberwig Mascara has been receiving. I am an associate at Market Reader Pro, a market research company currently working with Fiberwig to test the success of their mascara. If you are interested, we currently are running a short survey on Fiberwig mascara, and are looking for users to provide us with their thoughts on the advertising techniques that Fiberwig has been using. We are randomly distributing cosmetics samples to select survey participants.
The survey is very short, and only takes about 10 minutes of your time. If you are interested, you can take the survey here: http://poll.marketreaderpro.com/?p=312&r=350&L=710 . AND, please feel free to pass along to your fellow cosmetics-loving friends!

I only use waterproof mascara because of the unpredictable weather we have in Washington and it is hard to take off. So my cousin told me to try baby oil and it comes off so easily!

  15. Dawn says:

Based on some reviews I’d read, I was really looking forward to trying this mascara. I have fine, thin lashes and was hoping for something that would help a bit more than the mascaras I currently have. This mascara didn’t do much for me at all — I really don’t think it’s as good as some of the other mascaras mentioned in the other posts. So, I say save your $22 and buy a good store brand (I think a couple of the Maybelline products, Estee Lauder and the Lancome products are all better).

  16. Shannon says:

Hi Dawn, Imju doesn’t thicken your lashes, it only makes them longer by attaching fibres to them. That’s why I was sure to say that it rendered me “thin” natural looking lashes.

If you go through my category marked “mascara” there are a few good ones. Elizabeth Arden’s Double Density will make your lashes thicker, I also like how Prescriptives Here To Stay mascara works. Check out the reviews and let me know if you have any questions. :)

  17. Margaret says:

I wanted to say that I have short lashes, but today after using the Fiberwig for the first time, one of my patients said that she has never seen such beautiful long lashes! It was the greatest feeling to know that people are actually seeing the difference! :)

  18. yoyosushi3 (thu) says:

I like to use the Imju as a finishing mascara. We have finishing powders, so why not some for the eyes? hehe. So I use my Maybelline lash stylist, curl, add Imju and then one more curl for the road. Hello long lush lashes! The look IS a bit much however, so make sure they remain the sole focus!

*the imju also tends to make your eyes feel like there’s hair in your eye. I just blink a couple of times and try to ignore it.

  19. Trudi S. says:

I’ve yet to try this “legendary” mascara, but I’ve heard such great things about it.

  20. Fabiana says:

I am a beauty advisor for sephora MA I can tell that fiberwigs request is encreasing after the advertised on tv( some cooking show) but our best mascara # 1 in sell is Supernova by fresh , it is super thick an moist, alcohol free , so it doesn’t dry out I tryed fiberwig and I don’t think is bad but is not all that !

  21. Irma says:

I live in Port Orchard, Washington (zip: 98366)and want to find IMJU Fiberwig mascara? Where do I find a Sephora Store that sells this product? Thank you.
