Makeup Minute

It’s Friday the 13th: What are Your Scariest Makeup Moments?

I’m a superstitious girl, I don’t know about you. Each time Friday the 13th comes around, I have to play mind games with myself and avoid looking at the calendar or writing the date for fear that the sheer recognition of the day might spell trouble. I know, right?

Well, instead of being all doom and gloom here, I thought it might be fun to play off the “scary” theme and relive some of those not-so-savory moments in the world of makeup. Wanna play? It’s Friday, of course you do!

Okay, here’s what I want to know: What makeup disaster have you made that makes you quake in your stilettos to this day? Was it a bad color or a freaky formula? Let us know in the comments below. This will be fun.

I’ll start and I’ll keep it to two words: Coral lipstick!

I regret all the tons of eye shadow colors throughout the 80s, but the color most associated with the decade is the god-awful electric blue. What in the world was I thinking?

The Kohl eyeliner, in particular, was worn in abundance and on the inside. Surely you remember gently pulling the bottom of your eye down to achieve the most complete coverage. Nothing says 80s vixen like tons of blue or teal eyeliner rimming the inside of your eyes.

What was the shimmery pink lipstick everyone wore?

    HI,
I would have to say for myself, I made a few makeup mistakes. Once I used too dark of a concealor (med.) on my fair skin which had some color from the sun. It looked like I had beige paint under my eyes! I did not realize this until I was eating out at a cafe in the natural daylight.

I think in the 90’s a trend started with dark gothic lipsticks. I tried a deep darker red & it looked horrible on me! I can wear red lipsticks but only in soft colors. Judy K.

OMG, Cheri! Lining your inner lid was SO the thing to do. Can you imagine the eye infections that must have resulted from that trend?!? Good thing that’s over (for most of us, anyway!!)

And Judy, I have SO been there with the concealer. I think we all have. Nothing like calling MORE attention to your flaws by using the wrong stuff, eh? ;)

I’ve got one that happened to my mom a couple of years ago. While having a pre-church breakfast at McDonalds I looked up at her and had to say, “Um, you know your eyebrows are kinda purple?”. You guessed it, she mixed up her eyeliner with her brow pencil. This is why it’s dangerous to do your makeup on automatic.

  5. Vicki says:

Thewrong shade of foundation is always horrible!!
